Hey all ive already made a vet appointment, but what can i do til tomorrow? She flat refuses to eat anything, even baby food, ive also tried giving her maple syrup. She is a 12 year old basenji. I first noticed problems friday night. Poor thing can barely stand, she weaves like a drunk. She is super light, not real skinny though. This is WAY out of the ordinary for her. If you guys & gals have any tips they will be appreciated.
There are plenty vets in your area that will see her now.

Maybe an emergency vet place?

Check the color of her gums. If they are very pale, she is dehydrated. Hold her and pour some water into her mouth. My fiance and I have had to force our dogs to drink water when they were sick, but it really goes a LONG way. We've given them ginger ale when their stomachs were upset and it helped a bit too.

Sorry to hear, and I hope the pup gets better soon. Pets have a way to be your biggest joy, and biggest heartbreak all at the same time...
check her over for lumps, especially near the lymph nodes around the neck and near the back legs. vets almost always accept walk ins, you just might have to wait for a bit. or you can take her to an emergency vet.

Yeah i may take her to a emergency vet, however I mixed some wet dog food with baby food and she ate about half the bowl, maybe a cup worth, Im almost certain she has somthing wrong with her mouth, poor thing screams like hell when i try to look, she will need sedated to look, I think she is to weak to handle it though, thanks guys.

What Vet do you use? There is one on smoky just past tower that I go to and really like.. I've never had to wait a day to get a sick animal in to see them. I can get you the name and info if you'd like.

seriously, If your pup is in that bad of a shape, call your vet back and explain that she needs to be seen today.
If they refuse, find a new Vet.

Screaming when a her mouth is touched seems significant to me but I'm not a vet. Dogs, as they age get all sorts of tooth and gum problems. An infection/abcess could make it super tender and hard to eat. I think your vet should see her today since this qualifies as an emergency, even in Saudi Arabia.
Steve
might be a tooth problem. not wanting to eat because of the pain. lack of food and water will cause the dizziness/lack or coordination. won't let you look at her mouth is a solid sign as well.
I would try to get her in today to at least get a good amount of water in her.

My sympathies BC... right there w/ ya, my pup's struggling too.
The wobbling can be from all kinds of stuff... thyroid imbalance, inner ear, pain...
I agree about getting her in today if possible, best of luck and healing wishes sent!
+1 on getting her seen today, my dogs are members of the family and as such will be seen as soon as possable. My one boy had pulled his jaw muscle and did simmilar things. But it could be her teeth as well. take her in during business hours because trust me you don't want to pay for after hours care.

It's in Englewood, Hampden and Santa Fe. I know because our pooch will be getting her first visit with the oncologist.
Joy and pain just seem to be flip sides of the same coin.
there is a walk in vet at parker and orchard that i have used when the puppy got bit on the ear by another dog

If you can't open you dogs mouth it probably has a tooth abscess in one of its jaw teeth.
Get some ora gel and tub on the dogs gums. Really swab it down it might make the dog comfortable till you can get it to the doctor

well guys i took her in yesterday, they only made me wait about 30 min. Went with some blood work, got home this A.M. and just "knew" i took her in the vet even said that putting her down would be the kindest thing for her so thats whatI did. That will be my second dog on the same table!
But I must throw a shoutout to Special freinds on colfax. Ive had 3 dogs put down there (one when I was like 12) my lab of 17 years and now my 12 year old Panda bear. Great vet to deal with when ya have to make yourself feel like an asshole.
Thanks for all the well wishes guys, but she was just done. Kidney/liver failure. Dental issues and god knows what else, it was more humane than letting her suffer while trying to figure it out.
Needless to say Im done when her brother of 13 goes. No more animals.

Dang man, sorry to hear that! I don't know WHAT I'll do when it's Brutus' time to go. I've only had a pet ferret die, and I was sad, but it's not the same as a dog. I'm glad the vet took care of you and your pup. Although the heartache is rough to deal with, I'm of the idea that pets enrich our lives in a way that people just can't. And to deal with the sadness of them passing is but a sliver in comparison to the years of joy they bring. When Brutus goes, I'll be getting another pet that will never replace him, but will be able to contribute to my life and family in his/her own way.[Beer]

Sorry to hear this but I'm sure you made the right decision. No need to give up on pets--there's one with your name on it at the local shelter.
You sound like someone that needs more dogs, not fewer, and just know you made the right decision given her condition.

Bitter Clinger,
Hang in there. You did the right thing, and although saying that doesn't make you feel much better now, it will get better with time.
As you get older dogs become more special and their loss is more deeply felt. They are really like members of the family and it hurts to let them go, but remember that they are feeling no more pain now.
Take care.
That fricken sucks man. I'm deeply sorry for your loss.

Sorry to hear about losing your friend
I am really sorry to hear about your loss.
That is really sad - I am so sorry to hear it. I know for me, I get really attached to my pets and losing them is the hardest thing in the world. I have always had dogs and cats both through my life but have been more of a cat person lately. I lost my 12 year old cat in 2000 and it was 8 years before I got another one. I still miss that guy but I love my new cat too and am glad I have her.
