I wanted to start this thread to allow us a free forum to discuss why it is we think each others pistols (especially polymer pistols) are total doo-doo.

Let me start this out by saying The FN 5.7 is one of the most retarded things I have ever heard of. A pistol in a rifle caliber so you can shoot through every house in the neighborhood. What next a tactical carbine for home defense?!?!

Sadly, i have seen almost every make and model fail. Nothing is SCLID proof.

I even shop based not just on features and function, but cost of repair and replacement.

The major offenders seem to be manual repeaters, such as revolvers, and lever actions. I would say if pressed to guess its largely because of under charged hand loads. Not needing power to cycle the action, people often attempt 'light loads', nit realizing that low powder charge doesn't mean low pressure.
Primer jump burns powder awfully fast.

Another cause might be that there might not be any tell tale shirt stroking to indicate a squib on manual arm. Good ear pro and light recoil, a shooter might not notice the limp shot, and fire again into an obstructed bore.

Of course, there are many ways to skin ones hands...

I want a CZ P-07 Duty in 40. I held one at the store, and it had the worst DA trigger pull I've ever felt (they were both 9mm, doubt it matters). I still want one. With that guy they give you the parts to switch from Decocker to Safety.

Also, I made that Glock picture all by myself.

And i managed to get the trigger... acceptable.
If they had just put the regular action in those pistols, they would have been great.

I mean having to grip a guide rod with your pinky while trying to push the slide over the top of your hand and keep the worlds cheapest spring straight the whole time you are trying to monkey hump the thing back together is pretty gay.[Rant1]
Plus I had the slide break completely through at the front site post (after 7500 rounds). S&W was awesome about replacing that but still a hassle. Love to shoot that gun but it is poop in many regards.

Of all the guns I've owned I can say I haven't had a bad apple yet. I was worried about the Kimber through the first 300 rds but now it runs like a clock. The Desert Eagle can be a lil picky and that sucks cause it's an ammo whore! That is to be expected though.
The latest failure I witnessed was my friends XD, the slide catch/release broke. He called Springfield and they promptly hooked him up with a new one. Not sure of the cause, maybe a bubble in the cast. That's little disappointing (only 500 rds) but a small inconvenience if anything. I've heard and read a lot of stories of bad guns/bad buy's and consider myself lucky to this point.

I agree totally Benelli barrels/accessories are completely outrageous. I bought a Super Nova thinking that I could use as a hunting/home defense role. Then I found out how much the 18 inch barrels were. I could buy a whole other defense shotgun for less.

I am going to have to agree with you on HK's. Of all of the guns that I have, I have done more to, and with all of my HK's without ever having a single problem. Now, are they worth the price... Is a Kimber? My gold match? Any of the high price guns? Depends I guess, you might run into a problem with the others. I have with mine and with my friends. I am not saying that HK's are magical guns, just that in my personal experience, they are the best quality.

Needless to say id gladly buy another one if people weren't trying to charge more for them used then they were new a few years back.

Great thing about it though is if I do happen to run out of ammo for it, it makes a nice heavy blunt weapon.
Unlike some polys I would have no concerns using my KP944 as a breaching/escape tool for going through a door/wall.

Have used Federal and Winchester ammo. Have owned other guns, but they didn't seeem to be as good of quality -not saying that they're bad--H/K has just been good to me over the years. Have seen a lot of people bad-mouthing H/K. Yes they're expensive, but you get what you pay for.

I agree you get what your pay for hince the fact I won't buy a bersa. I do agree HK is a good gun, I has a USP Tach .45. But for the price tag I feel my glock out performs everytime. Kind of off topic, but when my S&W M&P rusted out on me, I went and google searched the issue. I found one site that was so over run with pussy fanbois, that when one poster said his gun (M&P) had rusted, they deleted his post and banned him. You were right sir. I have put 4000 rounds through my H/K pistol without ever experiencing a problem. At the range at 25 feet my USP shoots 1-inch groups on the target. Have used Federal and Winchester ammo. Have owned other guns, but they didn't seeem to be as good of quality -not saying that they're bad--H/K has just been good to me over the years. Have seen a lot of people bad-mouthing H/K. Yes they're expensive, but you get what you pay for.

Ok, so here it is....

4000 rounds over what time frame? All at once? then I am impressed. Life time of the gun? Then by that basis hi-points are uber reliable.
What was the rate of fire? fun ever get hot to the touch? Weather and range conditions? movement?
Stress reloads, from holster, or gear?
On duty or in service per chance?

I bad mouth HK because as a gun smith, i know how the USP was put together, which is small parts that are mostly stampings.
So is everyone elses, but why does HK cost more? I have NEVER seen anyone quantify a difference in favor of the HK pistols. at best, they are equal, yet cost more.

That is funny. Broomhandle is a nightmare to strip down as well. There are no screws holding it together and it is like a puzzle. I was going to strip mine down to inspect, clean and oil it and couldn't figure out the trick so I watched an online tutorial -- after which I decided it was just too complicated for me to mess around with and decided if I was going to sell it I'd get a better price on a complete pistol than a bucket full of parts I couldn't put back together.

SIG: Love em. On my second one, and nary an issue.

Ruger P-series: Not fancy, sure as hell not pretty, but no gripes.

Glock: If you treat your pistol like you treat your lawnmower, buy a Glock. Apparently the Austrians have not heard of ergonomics.

HK: They shoot good, but they're waaaaay too proud of their shit.

S&W autos: The M&P is the first one they've gotten right.

All are IMHO of course. Let the games begin...

I am attempting to try another platform for tactical, and the XD was the easiest transition. I really dislike DA/SA and DA only auto pistols. I tried to like the Glock, but the more I shot it the more I hated it.

Ruger P series are great shooters and built to last... just like a boat anchor.

I've owned several handguns. The two I hated the most were my Jennings 9mm... that thing jammed about every 3rd round. Probably better served as a paper weight. My other least favorite was my Glock 19. I once switched to HK, it was ok, had so much crap on it it weighed like 10 lbs. The mag release was a freakin joke, I trade it for a Glock.

I had a few sigs, 228, 2022 and one other. Problem was their finish. You pay that much for a gun, shoot a hundred rounds and it looks like it went through a war. The 2022 was accurate, the 228 was not. They were ok, better then HK. But I still got rid of them.

The SIG 2022 is vastly underrated.. very good gun. Well made, reliable, ergonomic, intuitive controls and great trigger. If I still shot 9mm, the SIG would be my first choice.

Great Trigger? if you like double-action/single action pistols with 10 lb /4.5 lb trigger pull on your first two shots...certainly not my choice for delivering a controlled pair in a stressed state. They seem to be a well made pistol for duty or tactical uses.

The 5.7x28 only shoots a 31 grain bullet, dont think it will do that much damage. Dont get me wrong I dont like the gun either, my brother has one. I have the RIA 22 TCM it blows the fn out of the water. 2100 to 2300 fps with a 40 gr bullet, out of a 5 inch barrel. On a 1911 platform with 18 plus 1 it does not get any better than that. But anyway as far as the fn going through walls with a 31 gr bullet I dont see it happening, and realy its not that bad of a gun. I dont think it is $1000 worth of gun, but it is a decent gun. I have a pmr30 almost look the same, and I love my pmr.

Sorry BF76, anyone who has fired enough rounds through an XD has seen it clamp brass sideways so hard, you need a hammer & vise to dislodge,due to slide track/guide wear,ramp & spring wear(go to any rental range and ask). Bet ya never did that to your Kimber. Every sidearm (or firearm in general), polymer or not, must be inspected regularly for wear and weak spring(s). Most of us don't continue driving our cars when overdue for service,brakes go metal to metal,throw a belt,or drive on bald tires. The trick is to catch it BEFORE IT FAILS! Most of the idiots who trash talk certain firearms are the same assholes who buy a Camry or Accord and never service them, don't maintain them, and blow 'em up (then blog negatively about brand). Some are dis-pleased due to the firearms ergonomics (it just don't "feel" right). The rest (like me), grew up in an era of weak plastic junk toys from Hong Kong that broke removing from packaging. Sure, poly is not as rugged as steel or some alloys, and we still have another 30-50 years before seeing how it REALLY holds up long term. All that being said, there is no better piece of mind than a double stacked mag. in an ultra-reliable weapon (properly maintained) with ergonomics that FIT YOU(whether steel,alloy,poly,nylon,fiberglass filled and so on) and a good track record with real experts (which most of us are not,me included). If not, find the action you like best (revolver,auto.,SA,DA,SA/DA,DAO,safety features) on a frame that's ergonomics best fit the primary user, then shop aftermarket for customization potential to fit one's needs/wants best (if it isn't perfect for u out of the box). If poly was poop, then every manufacturer (except Magnum Research,I think) would not be using it.
By the way, mine is the bestest (because it fits me)!!!!!! And my trigger is not mushy either!

I want a CZ P-07 Duty in 40. I held one at the store, and it had the worst DA trigger pull I've ever felt (they were both 9mm, doubt it matters). I still want one. With that guy they give you the parts to switch from Decocker to Safety.

Also, I made that Glock picture all by myself.

I just held a P-07 (OD Green! $599 whattttt? Gander Mountain in Thornton) yesterday and while the trigger was nice (only tried it single-action, didn't go for the double-action) it was the slide that killed it for me. I know you're supposed to go over & rack that SOB, but damn that slide will take your hand for a ride and bite you if you don't let go. Probably because of such a small area up top. Annnnd it just felt, clunky to me?

It's actually kind of disappointing, I had been all hot & bothered by the P07 since I heard about it from Shot Show 2012 videos (they were just announcing the OD Green ones, I previously had never heard of it even though it's been out in black for a year or two)

My H&K performs better under water than the Sig Navy, the G19 maybe with some hotter loads. Neighbors never swam in their pool anyway.

I had 2 XD and got rid of it on a first day of shooting. I believe both were from trade here ~10yrs back. I traded one, because one had TLR-1 with the XD. I needed a TLR-1, but not XD. :D
Another one I forgot, but sold it.

Reasons:
-one of the loudest pistol ever. 40SW XD subcompact sounds louder than a 338 lapua magnum.
-These thing has so much recoil due to bore height (bore axis) being crazy high. 9mm felt like 40. 40 felt like 357sig. 45acp felt like 45long colt.
-freaking heavy as steel frame pistols.

So...following The Terminator...a friend just absolutely had to have an AMT Longslide 1911.

What a dog of a gun. Problems with the springs to the point it was sent back under warranty. They replaced most of the guts. This didn't fix the additional problem of inaccuracy. Literally the bullet would hit the ground halfway between you and the target...when the target was 50' out. Sights were checked and not the problem. Additional parts replaced. Some custom parts made. Accuracy was....slightly better. Could at least hit the paper. Not that it could hit the target...but at least it was on the paper. Gun was sold for cheap following all this.

I forgot how much he spend on that, but it was not reliable at all. It reminds me of early 90s ar10.
However it looked very nice. It had carbon fiber type barrel and was looking high end ar10.
It is accurate but damn unreliable.


He sold that and got a cheapo PSA PA10 6.5 and he was 100% happy with it. (Maybe except the weight).

Yep. I had one of those. Next to no muzzle jump...when it fired. Could only run round ball through it.
