I'm adding this topic to my "boring and inconsequential list.”

With the proliferation of “on-line bullying” and the spate of resulting government interventions (state bills, laws) and lame-stream media expose’s on the topic, I’m flat-out bored with it. Christ man…are you friggin’ kidding me? If you are that f****** sensitive and vulnerable Darwin most likely already has something planned for you anyway, the continued pussification of America in my book.

Of course, I presume it’s more difficult to battle-back these days when what used to work well, “bustin’ a dick-heads nose,” is now considered felonious assault versus a resolution (ßremember when 5th grade parking-lot fisticuffs often turned into a junior high-school friendship instead of a lawsuit with whining parents and media coverage). Further, this on-line thing, hard to “push-back” if you do not have a grasp of the vernacular and are incapable of “on-line punches to the skull” via the written-word but…at the end of the day…is this really deserving of our time and focus? Maybe it is and I’m the one off-base.

DISCLAIMER: I would have a difficult time standing in a room with a family who has lost a child to suicide as a result of bullying while trying to defend this opinion. But, I struggle more with the continued “lowest common denominator” approach to solving everything. Life experiences...some good…some bad…move on…

Without being bullied most kids wont learn to fight, wont get tough and learn to stand up for themselves. Hell sounds like most liberals! If some kid is calling you names or throwing you beatings and you kill yourself instead of handling it, you have other bigger problems. Hell thats how I learned most of what I know was starting fights and getting picked on by older kids.

I think it's good for both sides to just handle it the old fashioned way. What ever happened to if someone puts their hands on you, you show them why they'll never do it again? Kids who are getting picked on learn to defend themselves and handle their own problems, and kids who bully learn that their actions have consequences and at some point you will get your ass beat acting like a retard.

What we have here is a generation gap. 30+ years ago, when I was in school, if you got into a fight on school grounds, whoever started it got a 1 day suspension. If you took it off school grounds, nobody got suspended, you worked out your differences, and got on with life. Dads and older brothers taught the younger kids to stand up for themselves. Mouthy kids got black eyes and a lesson in manners. Any and/or all of the above have been made illegal in the last 25 years.

It's even the pussification of bullies who no longer have to antagonize someone in person. There's no accountability for anyone any more.

I'm 28 and remember when busting up a bully got a "don't do it again" from the teacher...not even a trip to the principal's office. I also remember when schools started giving 5 day suspensions for fighting. Even at the time, I was maybe 13, I thought it was dumb. Then, again during my time in school they started suspending for off school grounds fights...as a kid I thought the schools were over stepping their bounds and I still do.

Our nation is creating a bunch of girls. Real men know that busting each other's lip usually solves the problem.

my eight year old daughter came home sick from school a couple months ago. After getting her home and talking to her, she wasn't sick, she felt she was being "bullied" (her words). After talking more, it was a slightly older girl (9) teasing her because we speak funny (Boston accents).

I told her that if the girl teased her again, to ask her to stop. If she doesn't stop after you ask, tell her that will be the last time she asks, and the next time she'll talk funny with my fist in your mouth.

A couple days later was parent teacher night (with kids) and my daughter asked the teacher if she could move her seat... long story short, my daughter told the teacher what I said, the teacher laughed and said she missed the days where kids took care of stuff that way. .. .

Violence doesn't solve anything..but it proves a point :)

Honestly, I wish they would let kids fight it out instead of intervening.. it would solve the entitlement that the kids are used to, that running to an authority will solve anything.. hell.. I never went to a teacher over a bully.. I waited for the bastard off of school grounds.. Many problems were solved at the bus stops..

No! No! No!

You people have it all wrong.

We must interceed on behalf of the weak and downtrodden and suspend both the bully and the victim to demonstrate that we don't show favoritism.

This way, the victim continues to be a victim, the bully gets more pissed at the victim and bully's him/her harder so he/she will eventually reach their breaking point and come to school with guns, knives, pipe bombs, etc. and take out as many others as they can.

See, now isn't that so much better than a couple of busted lips and black eyes?

Uh, wait... uh... Nevermind.

Do you know how many people I've wanted to give black eyes to over things they've posted on the internet over the years?

fighting should be allowed in school. if there is a problem, get them some gloves, put them on a mat and let them go at it after school.

I understand not wanting kids to get hurt, but shit needs to be settled and done with. makes both parties feel better. suspending kids for fighting on and off school grounds is laughable. give kids time off from a place they really don't want to be...yeah punishment my ass.

Yep.. I remember a fight I got into in the 9th grade gym class. Our coach made me and the other fellow go out on the football field and slug it out for a full 5 minutes. After 2 minutes he was yelling at us to FIGHT. We couldnt go any longer. No shanks, no guns, just good old fat lips and black eyes. I turned out shitty, but he turned out to be a fine investigator for the WV State Police.
