Just signed up moving some south Louisiana to Rifle for work. I'm bringing my collection with me and got some questions.

Any state registration there, every where I looked said no but doesn't hurt to ask. What about for suppresors?

Any CMP service rifle, uspsa, steel, etc matches in the area? I just finished a new White Oak and haven't even had a chance to get my zeros when they told me to move.

How's the concealed carry process there? I plan to keep my LA one for a bit as there's recipricosity but eventually I got to get a CO drivers license.

No state regisrtration unless it is NFA/Class III, then normal NFA rules apply. Same with suppressors, unknown if the County Sheriff for Rifle is NFA friendly and willing to sign off or not.

Don't know about matches in that area, too far north for me to travel.

Concealed Carry process is through the County Sheriff also. I haven't heard anything bad about Rifle's process. You might want to read up on the Colorado Statutes regarding concealed carry permits. I think the day you establish residency in Colorado your out of state permit is invalid. That was a recent change a year or so ago, out of state permits are no-good for citizens living within the state.

You might want to hold off on zeroing anything else in until after you get here. Bullets fly differently at altitude and given that hte highest point in LA is Driskill Mtn @ 535ft and the elevation of Rifle, CO is ~5350 (difference of 4815ft), anything you site in now will not hit anywhere near where you expect it to once you get here.

If you have recently moved to Colorado, you must apply for a Colorado title and registration for your vehicle within 90 days from establishing Colorado residency. Colorado residency is established when one of the following criteria is met:

You have obtained employment in Colorado.
You own or operate a business in Colorado.

Good luck with the move - that's the hardest part.

Aside from getting used to the thinner air and paying more for shrimp & crab, I think you'll prefer living here.

I already have the Form 4/stamps so no sign off needed, just was wondering about registration on the state side above and beyond the BATFE/NFA stuff, as I've got the BATFE side handled.

example.. When I lived in MS they could care less just Form 4 required. When I moved to LA they required a state registration on top of the Form 4 (name address, serial, etc..) that was just mailed in no biggie, don't have to get a new stamp moving states.

Crap that means I have to re-sight in everything? I gotta find a range there in Rifle.

I need to get my fill of crawfish before I leave too, probably never see them anywhere near here.


Other question is, is there much in the way of lakes on this side of the state, I got a sit on top kayak rigged up for fishing the swamp, not good for the CO river and streams I've seen here. Looking forward to breaking out my flyrod.

No state registration for NFA. You can catch your own crawfish and cook it up. I've done it. I don't know about commercial availability in and around Rifle, but around the metro area, you can go and pick some up around town.

There are a lot of nice lakes and reservoirs in the area. Your kayak will probably work on the Colorado after the spring run off.
