I don't think it's funny. [Rant2]
Ther are those who hate the unions(owners) and there are those who wish the had a union job.

I would love to see if you could do my union job for one month.

BTW Obama is fucking with us also.

And what is your Union Job that is so critical nobody on earth could do it!
Thats the mentallity, "NOBODY BUT ME COULD DO THIS JOB"
Fill me in, so I know every month if my tax dollars are going to good use.

I find it HILARIOUS!

I drive trains, 24hrs a day,7 days week all holidays, weekends 12hrs on duty a day. Start times are when they call you and you have 2 hrs to get there. Your taxes doesn't pay for anything on my job. I don't even pay Social Security. I know that some unions are screwed up but some are needed.
Also you better have a good wife because your not home every night.

yeah I was wondering about the tax dollars remark as well...
Last I Checked Unions were supported primarily by the bilking of the corporations and the worker. On occasion its a local government and the workers (Teachers, etc)
I could be wrong.

Most of the rest of us do pay SS. One more thing the unions get their members out of.

Um, I don't fall into either. I don't want to work a union job that takes more of my money and I am not an owner...but I still think unions suck.

I'll tell you what they're good for, making their members think their shit don't stink like you seem to think. "You couldn't do my job for one month...they call me in to work with 2 hours notice and I have to work so hard...'tear'." Cry me a river. Not sure how you can drive trains 24/7 if you only have 12 hour shifts...

Not a fan of unions myself..

Great idea at inception. It was needed. They still do serve some industries well.

I honestly love Walmarts stance on unions. They pay their people shit, but honestly.. Is there really a reason a 'cashier' should make $20/hr?

Yes my shit does stink, just ask my conductors.

I am on call 24/7 and work 12 hr shifts.

I was just about to say that if you work in the RR industry, you'd be paying Railroad Retirement. They collect more from the employees each month but the retirement payments are somewhat better than Soc. Sec.. I retired nineteen (19) years ago from a major railroad and sure enjoy receiving these monthly retirement checks that you are kicking to help cover. Please don't stop contributing. These retirement checks ARE sure worth waiting for.

I think anyone would take what you just said as a THREAT. Are you threatening MY FAMILY.
Maybe the Police need to get involved here!

I dont fall for your "POOR ME" attitude, nobody has ever forced anyone to take a job. Your choice, live with it.
I will follow up on the threat you proposed.

Mods, please weigh in!
Is this the talk we need on the site?

while I Dont advocate unions, I also believe that there are corporations such as Wal-Mart that abuse the workforce.

I agree that a cashier doesn't need $20.00 an hour in the same way I believe the petroleum corporations dont need $3.60 a gallon for unleaded.

Now I do believe that if wages followed the same inflation rates that fuel costs did the minimum wage would be ~$20.00/hr.

And since fuel costs are directly tied to cost of living, it is very relevant.

I don't know anything about Railroad Retirement but from what you wrote it sounds like Sixgun is paying in now to write checks for Blaster Bob's retirement and if that's the case it's no better than SS. Just another ponzi scheme. Hope you guys also have private retirement so you can still retire when the ponzi scheme catches up.

I have to live with it, My wife is dying of cancer, so I need insurance and a job that makes good money. When my wife dies the "Poor Me" is going to find it hard to work and raise my 7 and 11 year old daughters. My union and company has been on my side thru all of this.

Sixgun quit your bitchin, do your job and deliver coal or what ever you hual. I could really care less about how important you think your jobs because eevery job is important. Thats what you wanted to do so go do it!
Pay your dues, take the scrapes your Union Bosses give you, dont act like nobody here could learn to drive a train and be a man.
I will not stand at attention when a train drive by and drop a tear for the hard working conductor man, your gonna get a check and your wife is gonna get a check for life, you wont be hurting for money.
I know people retired from the RR and they are doing pretty damn good and trying to get people to get on with them because life is good after retirement.
You get no Union sympathy here.
Next time take a sec to look at what you write before you post.

A union is necessary in my line of work. That is all I'm trying to say.

Just a little personal experience note....

I have helped at least couple dozens walmart employees - greeters, cashiers - They have nothing but good thing to say about Walmart. Like any other giant corps, you will get some vocal haters who have outrages demand.

Locally in Denver area, the union has been trying hard to organize wallmart workers for the last 6 years. Each time the employees voted them down. Wallmart lunch break is one of the best conversion rate to pitch your business to the employees btw [Coffee] In fact, I am doing a couple refis for some of them as we speak.

I was actually going to take an internship with Walmart ISD some years ago, so I looked into things. It's not bad at all. I don't know many other places where part-timers can be eligible for health insurance.

In principle, I don't give a shit about unions - right to assembly, and all. But when you get shit like mandatory membership and mandatory dues paying, I consider that a problem.

I remember specifically looking at UPS when I was still in school, and deciding that the dues assraping and seniority structure wasn't for me. It's anti-meritocratic. Fortunately, I finished my degrees, work a desk job, and in my leisure time, enjoy crushing the hopes and dreams of the proletariat.

Yeah, mandatory membership to a union is bullshit.

Unions serve a purpose, but like all things are only good in moderation. I think there should be a law prohibiting a requirement to be a union member to work a job. I also think the law they're passing in WI which essentially bans collective bargaining is BS. There's a happy middle ground that neither side seems interested in. Fucking typical, really.

Been getting those checks for about fifteen years now and enjoying the hell out of them. Here's to ya.[Beer]
