Man- I thought that our family was going to make it through this winter without the Flu/Crud.
That'll teach me to think..............I felt like crap last weekend but never got a fever, just felt crappy. Then Tuesday my youngest (19) says he feels crummy and Wednesday he is cooking a fever of 102. Yesterday he says he feels fine and the fever has broke.
Working in the shop last night I feel my arms and legs aching but I wasn't sure if it was just from being tired. Come bedtime and the Mrs says she feels crappy and in the middle of the night I wake up and she is burning up-101 temp. Now this really sucks-she thinks she's freezing so she wants to snuggle up but I can't stand it because it is like a hot, wet sponge slathered all over my back..
FFWD to this morning-she is still in the 101-102 range and my aches are 10 times worse than last night.
Great-I guess I know what I am doing this weekend-fighting off the crud and sucking down the Thera-Flu!
Dammit! I have too much to get done this weekend!
Just wondering how everybody else has fared this year.
Rant,whining and sniveling off..................

It hit me a month or so back, and it kicked my ass. I only had a really nasty cold bug at least and no flu, but it knocked me out of work for a couple of days

My son has been pretty sick for the last few weeks and just starting to recover. I've dodged it for some unknown reason and have been pretty sick free all season. Probably just jinxed myself. [Beer]

I had the flu a couple of weeks ago, pretty nasty stuff. wife got it last week, a mild case. Both kids had strep about a month ago. Now my youngest is showing signs of the flu bug today.
It's been constant and gruling.
I've had it twice this year and I rarely get sick. Last time was about a week ago which was the chills, body aches, high temperature, and chest cold. It was miserable. Hopefully those of you that havent had it can avoid it.

I got sick last year for about a week. That was the first time in a few years I had been sick. When I feel the FIRST signs of something coming on: tiredness, achiness, sore throat (before it's even sore), I start taking Emergen-C 2-3 times a day. That stuff WORKS. It's not a medicine for when you already have a sickness, but a defensive wall of immune system-boosting vitamins and minerals to combat the crud. I'll usually also try to get in a really intense workout where I'm sweating a great deal, and keep a copius supply of water running through my system.
My whole family except the wife just got over it. Was horrible this year. High fever on and off for days, and left with a cough that hurt so bad I thought my chest was going to explode.
Made it through with lots of water and working out no matter how bad I felt. I beat it quicker than my other family members who are smokers, drinkers etc... So I have to agree with sweating it out.

This is the first time in years I got the flu shot (free from work) and it seemed to do the trick, been healthier all winter compared to normal years.

It has swept thru my family as well. My wife got a flu shot but no one else did. It didn't make any difference with whatever it is going around. Dr. says they are seeing it last 3-4 weeks.
How do you tell if you have the flu?
I had a fever for like two days early this year.

You know the funny thing is, this is the first year in quite a few that we HAVE NOT gotten flu shots.
And this is also the first year in quite a few that we didn't get sick earlier in the season. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or it is just the cycle of the flu bug.

I do know I'm getting pretty sick and tired of going into work and 3 of the people who sit right near me hack and cough all day. We work in IT, and we all have laptops to work from home, and a boss that encourages it if we're not well, have drs appointments, or even just don't feel like getting dressed that day. Why oh why won't these germ factories stay home and spew phlem?

This crap is hitting hard today- 102 temp and it hurts to move. Oh well, Band of Brothers is on so I'm laying on the couch-drank about a half gallon of Cranberry juice, Tylenol and an extra hot Santiagos burrito- maybe I can burn it out of me.

Satiagos cures all[Beer] All 4 of us got it at the same time. Fever soreness just dragged us all down for over a week. Glad its over.
I'm just now getting over it. One good thing though, it helped me quit smoking. Not had one for a week now.

holycrap.. how do you eat Santiago Hot? I typically get the half-half and that thing burns from the point of entry to the point of exit. They have the best Carnitas wrap though.

Just eat some icecream after Santiagos. That way you have something to sooth the burn after it comes out. [ROFL2]

The flu is exactly how I quit smoking too, haven't had a smoke in a few years.

The Dr. told my wife that this crud lasts 3-4 weeks, and it is, for us anyway. We just started the 4th week. We were all feeling better and on friday my oldest son wakes up with mega swolen tonsils. We carted both my boys off to the Dr. for strep tests and spent $300 to be told that they were sick and there wasn't anything to be done about it. My wife got up this morning and lost her breakfast. My boys are finally starting to eat. When they don't eat you know something is really wrong.
My whole family has had a bad cold/bronchitis. I can't get rid of it....I've been through two rounds of drugs and still have a nasty cough and stuffed up head. I do have MS which makes it hard to get rid of stuff.....but damn, I've had it for over a month. It sucks donkey balls!

Yep, part of the same thing we have had. It doesn't respond to antibiotics because it is gram positive (sp?).
