I keep using my knife and random shit for everything when we are camping or hiking and it would be nice to just have a good multi-tool. So, I am asking your opinions on them, Gerber, Leatherman, Swiss and so on. I don't know if there are any other brands out there with a good rep. Fill me in. I want pliers, drivers, and a blade on it since it will be my primary tool.

I like the Leatherman Wave, you can access the knife blades without opening the tool, and the blades have a cross lock so it will not fold up on your fingers while using it.

i have been using a SwissTool for about 11 years and see no reason to buy anything else. i use it for everything and it still looks and functions like brand new.

I have an SOG PowerLock. Lots of handy stuff, well-built (and heavy) and Made in the USA. It's always done what I needed it to.

I have had Leatherman's, SOG and Gerbers. I have destroyed all 3.
But I keep going back to the Gerber-It doesnt pinch like a Leatherman can or fold up like the SOG could plus when I break them I just send them back and they fix them, even the one I managed to arc weld the jaws together on a live 110v circuit.

geez ive been using my issued old school gerber for so long im just comfortable using it
the only drawback on it is the blade dosent lock
i do have the newer one that came in the cleaning kit-but i dont like the blade on it and it cant be broken down like the older ones
as far as the other ones-ive never tried them

I've got the EXACT same story. They replace them if you beat it with a hammer too.

Geez BP, even a Trunk Monkey nows to unplug or turn off the circuit breaker before cutting electrical wiring.
Next time call a sparky ( or at least a Trunk Monkey ) and don't attempt an electrical repair yourself.

I don't think it will fit in the pocket! But I could sell ya a sling and an adapter like a rifle, you can carry it on your shoulder! [LOL]

Well after looking at everything, I settled on a new Wave. My wife then wanted one also, so she bought a used Leatherman for her hiking bag. Then she added that one in the car for "random" times should be had also. For that, we got a used Micra. Looked for one, got 3. Huh...
