I just came back from pawnee to find out that they closed nearly all of it to shooting. All kinds of signs up about no shooting. Where else can we shoot without having to pay the higher prices to shoot at the ranges? Please let me know. Was quite dissapointed with the new statutes at pawnee. Hoping to still go shooting today and later this week. Thank you!!

There is a spot on Stove Prairie a little ways after you turn on to it from Hwy 14.
Is the closure at Pawnee permanent or just temporary due to nesting birds?

The sign said it was not completely closed to shooting. But 260 acres are closed to shooting. It said because of the potential for fires, and the few residents in the area. Could be a seasonal thing, but there are all kinds of signs posted, so it might be quite a while. Can you post or pm me the directions to stove prairie? I am still fairly new to colorado, and learning my way around via mapquest. Thank you!!

beast556 can you give me better directions from fort collins? I usually go down cr14 to the pawnee exit and take the first immediate right where the sign is. I have only been there a few times, I would appreciate information on where you shoot. Thank you!!
I thought all the shooting areas were north of hwy 14.

Thanks for the link to that map.
Are there any places up there where you can get set up to shoot 500 plus yards safely?

The place on the map called "biggest area" can be set up pretty long to the south. Zak Smith used to use it frequently for 300 and 400 yards at least (I don't remember how much further out he could get.) Only problem is you need to leave someone at the firing line to make sure some of the local yahoos don't shoot in that direction while you are walking to place your targets. It's like a cul de sac down in a gully and people shoot about 270 degrees out from it.

Yeah we just went out yesterday afternoon on 96, my first time out there, there were about seven or so trucks, not too busy and enough space for everyone. Didn't see any signs about no shooting.
