Apparently, "burglary of a motor vehicle" (BMV; car break-ins) has been seeing a serious increase in Colo Springs in the past few weeks. Even parking lots on the area bases have not been exempt (I know, why would they be?)

The increase has been significant enough for the military to sent out the following warning yesterday:

Help spread the word to your folks to ensure they are locking up their vehicles. In the last month there has been several hundred break-ins of unsecured vehicles off base (mainly south east Colorado Springs).

On-base: the last two nights we had items stolen from unsecured vehicles in parking lots. The parking lots were both off Stewart. It appears that glove boxes and consoles are being gone through. So far a Leatherman and iPod have been taken.

Just thought I'd share the info in case it might help our folks avoid becoming victims.

I think its the general trend all over, back in december my truck and van were broke into but only thing taken were the stero face plates (they were not talented enough to take the whole stero). F***ing thieves.

Were you able to get new face plates quickly?

Nope both stereos were out of production so I upgraded the van for a christmas gift for my Mom, But still need to get one for my truck. Lucky my wifes car was downtown. BTW this happened between 6am and noon.
