I need a bunch of ammo cans. Shipping kills mail order, high price kills most local stores. If I drive to Denver and pay $8 will I end up being able to buy 20+ 50cal cans at a decent price or will it be a waste of time??

Thanks for any advice!

There usually are a few dealers. Sometimes they don't show though. I went to the show at I-70 and Chambers and there wasn't any, but Tanner is way bigger.

In summary, there should be but if not don't blame me. :)

There is usually 2 regulars there with that size of ammo cans. One wants $12 each and the other is selling them for $8.
Or you can go to Gander and get new never used cans for $20.

I've emailed the Tanner people to ask about vender's before. They have alway returned a helpful reply. My questions were pretty vague too. I always did it earlier in the week though.

But you might try calling. Here is their website-

Also there is a guy that advertises on Craig's list out of Colorado Springs that has good prices and large volume's. You might post on the want to buy forum or ask over in the general board.

There is a guy in COS that sells them for 7-8 each and has a large supply. He is open every Saturday, sells out of a larger storage shed. I suspect if you buy a lot he will deal. He is cash only...

Send me a PM if you what his contact info. It is a long drive but if you are heading down for some other reason then it is worth it.

We picked up about a dozen of the 50-cal boxes at Tanner several months ago. Seems like we made a deal for $70 or $80 or so for the bunch. I think they were asking $8 each if you just buy a couple. Buying several will help the unit price.

here is the link to the guy in the springs,

He seems to have a surplus business from the base down here, you can also buy 1970 desks and office furniture at the same time.

Big +1 for this guy in the Springs, I bought a bunch of the nice 40mm can off of him, gaskets were perfect, I sprayed them down with water to get the light dust off of them dried them out, they look great.

The 40mm cans are great, hold a lot more than the .50 cans, and have super nice sturdy handles.

Sportmans guide had the them for over double the price.

I think he was cleaned out of .50 cans, but that was last week.

I agree about Ammo Can Rick in the Springs, the guy on Craigslist. I buy all my cans from him, and I've amassed quite a few. You should call him first to make sure he's got some and will be around. Bring extra cash, you're likely to find something else you can't live without.

As of yesterday (3/18), Bowers had a fair amount of .50 and .30 cans, at least 8 of each. I think the .50 cal cans go for $7-9, and the .30 cal cans are a couple bucks less.
