Are we allowed to shoot in the Boulder County Open Space? We own property up near Left Hand Canyon off Neva Road and there is a huge open space area there where cattle graze on in the summer. Is it fair game to shoot out there? There are a few houses there, but nothing near the open space or at least where I was eyeballing the other day.

My understanding is no, I have been trying to find out though. BLM and most national forests yes, as long as you are 150 feet away from any established road, trail, or building.

it is public land so you would think you shoul dbe able to, but i dont know for sure and would hate to see any one get in trouble based on what is aid.

I don't even think firearms are allowed on Open Space property.

this is what I am trying to figure out....there are no signs anywhere that say no firearms...but it doesn't say shooting is allowed either. Calling them is useless, no one ever seems to be working.

a firearm in Boulder's Open space if you sign an affirmation that no tofu has been harmed by your gun, and that you will only shoot while wearing birkenstocks, with your dread's tucked into your shirt, AND when your blood THC level is lower than .005.

I think...

BCOS just got a .015% sales tax increase voted in. Who needs to work? [Wink]

Is it within city limits? I think the 150 rule is feet though, and not yards.

I think everyone missed the important works in my reply post, I said the rule is for BLM and national forrest, not open space.

Also, most of the open space is county land, even though it is owned by the city, it is still maintained by the county. my house backs up to about 1000 acres of open space, so i would love to shoot there. I am still trying ti find an answer for you.

And yes it is leagal to poses a firearm on open space.

No, you can not discharge a firearm in Boulder County Open Space.

If you need to read it somewhere:

Discharging or carrying firearms, crossbows, fireworks, explosives or projectile weapons of any kind are not permitted except as expressly mandated by Article 12 of Title 18 of the Colorado Revised Statutes, as amended.
This includes paintball, BB, pellet, air, paint ball, and blow guns; rockets, crossbows, longbows and slingshots ($300 fine).http://www.bouldercounty.org/play/recreation/pages/posrulesandregs.aspx

Thanks. I'll have to remeasure where I usually shoot from on my property then.

so wait, ok this is confusing as hell. but from what I understand....we OWN the land but give boulder county free access to use it for research purposes. we also own the mineral and natural gas rights on that large portion of what I thought was just open space.

talk about a mind fuck. basically it is our land, but boulder county is allowed to do research and use it for other purposes.....as long as its not open to the public and they aren't drilling for oil or natural gas.

so now what?
