Heard it on the news last night, apparently the moon will be closer to Earth tonight than it has been in the last 19 or so years, and will appear bigger and brighter.
BFD, its the moon.

Oh don't forget, it also means the world is ending and it caused a tsunami and and and and

(earthquakes don't even increase 1% when the moon is at its absolute closest. But why listen to science)

It's all ending! Halp! [Help]

wait... we had impending doom and despair and I missed it?

Sunnuva...

We need to implement a Federally funded a tinfoil hat alert roster for crap like this otherwise I cannot be responsible for panicking at the appropriate time every time.
Maybe something like a reverse 911

"This is the Colorado state reverse 911 tinfoil hat alert system, Please begin freaking out over something that probably will not occur during your lifetime or your great grandchild's lifetime. If the aforementioned doom does occur, chances are you wont be able to do shit about it anyway. For further information please tune to your local propaganda outlet."

I tried looking at it last night at midnight but it was obscured by a high thin cloud cover :(

BFD, its the moon.

First, one must “position the eye” geographically above 8500’ in elevation, ensure minimized to no external light pollution and seek reduced to no negative influence from heat source contamination. Once in-place, and when combined with current lunar timing and proximity, one will be afforded a unique experience that allows the un-aided human eye to grasp a moonscape with a level of clarity and detail that is unparalleled. The uncommonly oversized orb itself appears suspended and seemingly to be floating in a deep, multi-dimensional ink-black pool of disorienting night sky. Layer-in the rare opportunity to simultaneously “see” an infinite spectrum of reflective and refractive pulsing chromatic color via a tremendous ‘Moon Dog’ while in the same instance having the mind fooled into allowing the capture of tight, crisp, hard-edged color segmentation concurrently and it becomes quite the optical illusion. Float a few man-made contrails and associated shadows in and out of the real-time image and…well…it is/was “just pretty cool.”

The again…”could of just been that hit of mescaline and the three bottles of Cabernet I put down while watching the NCAA tourney last night!”

In all seriousness, I do not have a camera that can/could grasp the visual impact, clarity and color of last night’s Super Moon but…it sure was one of those interesting and simple pleasures in life that most people on the planet will never experience.

FireMoth, "...gives me an extra half inch.... baby, here i come with all 3" you've been waiting for

Moth', you need to take better advantage of this opportunity man, it is not "just 3" you can promote!"

I measure 3" up on side, 1" across the top and 3" back down the other. That gives me a "full 7 inches of white-boy, Napoleanic-scale fury that when unleashed...well...keep the wives and daughters (and farm animals) off the streets." Tip: Use a fisherman's ruler in the same process instead of a house-hold tape measure and the results are just fuckin' amazing!

cebeu, good heavens! (pun intended) what a writeup! You definitely must be poet at heart.

To me, the moon didn't look meaningfully different than any other full moon.

we all know that michelle obama went for a swim in the pacific. upon diving in, that created the tidal wave in japan. for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. michelle jumps in water = tsunami and nuclear disaster in japan. very simple physics!

I think it was closest in the movie "Bruce almighty" when we lassoed it and brought it in close.
