I am looking at picking up a can for an AR I'm putting together. Specifically i'm looking at an Advanced Armament m4-2000.

I called up a class III dealer just so that I had the process down and there won't be any problems in the future.

Only thing is during the conversation he told me that jefferson county checks to make sure you have a safe before Sheriff Mink will sign off on the Form 4.

This smells like bull to me but do we have any jefferson countians that can confirm or deny?

I'm gonna give the sheriffs office a call tommorrow but I figured it can't hurt to ask here as well.

Thanks all!

Don't know yet it will be three weeks this monday if I don't hear anything by then I will call. I am not going to mess with this Webb guy I will go straight to Mink. If I get any hassle I will register it corporate since I already have a corporation I really don't need sign of anyway.

I will keep you all up to date.

Ok guys UPDATE my forms have been at the sheriffs department for three weeks as of yesterday (4/1/06). I called last friday and left a message for Srgt. Webb asking if everything was in order and if there was any problems to give me a call.

Webb called me about 30 minutes ago at my shop. He was a really nice guy and he began to tell me how people are breaking into sheriff vehicles to steal guns. He said his concern was if they are after their guns they are sure going to be after mine.

Since I could see were he was going I told him that I had a fire proof gun vault and all my weapons were secured. He said that is what he wanted to know. We chatted for a while about various other things. He asked about my shop and where it was at one point I casually let him know that I really didn't need sign off as I could register the guns to my corp. I would however prefer to register them to me personally and let him know I already got sign off on an m16 and a raider can.

At the end of the conversation he said he usually likes to do a site inspection but he was just to busy and didn't think it was necesary to do one on me. He said he was taking my forms up to Mink for a signature and would have them out in the mail to me shortly.

I also let him know about the surbu sooper shorty that I bought and told him as soon as Alan got it I would be dropping off the forms for that. That is how it went for me but I can't say how it will go for others. If any of you drop forms off keep the rest of us posted as to how it go's.

I got a hold of Sgt. Webb today after playing phone tag with him for about a week. Seemed like a really nice guy, professional and friendly. He likes to contact folks to make sure nothing gets out onto the streets and likes to have a face to face when he gets time. He asked what I was getting and what kind of rifle I was puting it on (auto or semi). I got the impression that he was more worried about automatic weapons getting out into the wrong hands.

Told me he'd keep an eye out for my forms (I haven't submitted them yet) and let me know if anything goes awry.
