How's the SA 1911's .. I am in the market for a 1911 and may buy it this weekend. I don't want to spend the money for a Colt..

I've always enjoyed the SA 1911s I've had.

But, unless you're looking at the GI or Mil-Spec models, most SA pistols will cost as much as a Colt.

Springfield makes a great 1911. Forged frame and slide, good manufacturing and a decent warranty.
My only gripe is the MIM fire control parts but those are easily dealt with.
If you are looking for a MilSpec 1911 and want to save a few bucks take a look at Rock Island Armory.

Springfield is one of the best choices. It also has decent resale value if you ever wish to sell it in the future.

I have has a couple Springfields. I think there milspec model is not as good as the RIA 1911. If you are looking at one of the higher end ones go with a colt. Resale is better. Oh one other thing. If you do get a Springfield dont be surprised to read on the frame made in Brazil.

I have a SA 1911A1 loaded
Very nice gun and has never had a failure. Very accurate too.
I had a trigger job done on mine just for the heck of it and now the trigger break is sweet and clean.
I think I paid about $700 for it about 4-5 years ago.

I don't carry this gun though--a little big for that plus I have others that are more suited for CC

I have a Springfield Mil-Spec, and a Colt officers model. They both are great handguns. Goodluck in your ventures!

I had the micro compact that I used for carry. I really liked it. The only reason I sold it was because I picked up a Kimber and the Kimber fits/feels better in my hand.

I have a Springfield GI that I bought used. I don't know how many rounds have been through it, but it definitely looks well used and I know I haven't been easy on it. Everyone complains about the MIM parts, but mine has held up well...I figure when they break I will fix them, but until then why mess with it?

I've owned 3 Springfield 1911's, one a GI Champion, and 2 Loaded models. The GI was a little bit more stubborn "breaking it in", the second loaded I owned was used and ran flawless. The third I picked up recently, brand new from GMG, and I can not say enough good things about this pistol. My first time out, I shot 400 rounds through it, and only had 3 FTF's early on. Since then, it's eatin everything i've ran through it, and is a mighty fine shooter.

Umm.... what? high end Springfield are considerably above colt, take that from a former colt only owner . i now own a S.A. TRP operator and had before a MC operator.

read up on rock island armory, and originally it was a colt plant in the Philippines and later bought by Armscor. but still run by the people who made them for colt only with crappy grips but i own one, got some good grips and i love it

I have a full size MIL SPEC, a GI Champion, Full size loaded and SS Champion loaded on order(was hard to find at a good price). I like my Springfields and they are all quality. I do dislike the made in Brazil thing but again IMBEL is known for quality in the FAL world too. Another 1911 I like is the Smith & Wesson models(MADE IN THE USA). All I will say is I have more of them than SPRINGFIELDS. That is another good brand to consider. I like the fit and finish on the dull stainless versions. They are also a bit more accurate (for me) than the Springfields. I do have a PD and Compact pro as well which are made of the lightweight metals. They are quite light but you have to use mags that dont eat up the feedramps. Springfield has that same issue with their light weight models as well. Both Springfield and Smith and Wesson have excellent customer service. I did see on GUNBROKER that 5280 Armory has a very nice looking SMITH in Stock http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=224051200

and a Springfield loaded

Wish I had the money!
