I bought an RIA 1911 today at Big R in Elizabeth. So far, playing and fondling her, gives me a warm and fuzzy feelin'... Gov't model, no bells or whistles.

So from what I am hearing,,, Any 8 shot 1911 mag will work in it... Except a Kimber, They don't work ?????

I've had good luck with Chip McCormick Shooting Stars, got a sackful of 'em. The stock mags that come with 'em are good too, but I prefer flat-bottomed mags. I don't like that big bumper thing hanging down.

I like the chips too, but have found too many feed problems after about 1 yr old. Most likely the springs as the 7 rounder GIs are much more forceful.

I bought some new surplus GI issue 7 round mags and they are tight, they don't drop free as easy as the stock mag that came with it.
They are for just plinking anyway, I actually put looped paracord through a hole I drilled in the base of the mag. Actually works great for pulling the mags out of pouches and pockets.

i've never had kimber mags work in anything but kimbers to be honest.

Yeah that's what I heard also. There's a couple of guys that say you can interchnage parts from other 1911's. But Kimber has to have Kimber parts.

Congratulations on the new 1911. From past experience I find the Chip McCormick mags a little "pistol sensitive". They worked flawlessly in a couple of my Springfield Armory guns but the same mags didn't function well in one of my Colts. If you want really dependable magazines for carry/home defense use and don't mind paying a little for them, I would recommend the Wilson Combat mags. They have functioned flawlessly in every 1911 I have owned.

Nice price-point 1911, good call. +1 on Wilson Combat Mags, 47D's are all I run in my 11 year-old Kimber, reasonable price, rock-solid performance, durable, etc...

Congrats on the new blaster.

My first 1911 was a RIA GI. It ran fine after break-in (about 200 rounds). Wilson (8), Chip McCormick (8) and Colt (7) mags ran fine in it. The first thing I changed was the grips. The smooth wood just didn't do it for me. Kimber checkered rubber grips (http://www.kimberamerica.com/shop/product.php?xProd=135&xSec=18) are good and inexpensive.

M1911.org-Armscor/Rock Island Forum (http://forum.m1911.org/forumdisplay.php?f=17) has a wealth of info.

i've heard the same thing. I was never planning on buying a kimber anyway so it doesn't matter. If you want a nice 1911, buy a kimber. If you want an even nicer one, look harder ;)
