I have a Ruger 10/22 rifle I purchased new for my son about 5 years ago. We're looking for something 20rd+ to save time at the range. Does anyone have any experience with this rifle and the magazines that work well?

Also would appreciate any reliable ammo suggestions as the crap ammo I purchased just won't feed right.

Stay away from any magazine that doesn't have steel lips in them. The plastic feed lips wear and fail quickly and you'll be replacing them pretty quickly. I've got a half a dozen of the BC's, and they've lasted a very long time. I've never bought from this place, but Hinterland Outfitters has the clear 25 rounders on sale for $16.70. As far as ammo goes, I've not had a problem with the Winchester Wildcat 40gr. stuff. Picked up 15000 of them at a gun show a bunch of years ago and am still running through it.

Tactical Inovations are the best high cap mags for the 10/22. Their polymer ones are decenly priced.

Avoid the winchester 333 value packs of ammo I took my 10/22 out the other day and it jammed every other round. I wondered if the gun was dirty but when I shot some fedral ammo it didn't jam once

thanks for the tip. I ordered a Tactical Innovations magazine yesterday, not the $63 one just the $35. At check-out I got hit with one of those "unadvertised specials" the non-metal magazine for $17 but I declined as I will heed the steel-lip suggestion from an earlier post.

I also had a problem with the Win 333 or 555 value packs. The first 20 rounds just fine then it would jam up so I ran the bore snake thur and it was fine for about 20 rounds. Winchester 333 and 555 value packs use a dirty powder had to do a ful take down clean up after shoot this stuff.
I use the Federal bulk pack no problem,
also stay away from Federal Lightening and american eagle do not like 10/22's

I'm a little late to the party, but on 4/29/2011 Ruger finally released a factory 25 round magazine for 10/22 rifles and variants:

Model BX-25

Stainless steel lips and spring. Ruger name on the side. Thirty bucks.

I decided to bite and purchase a couple of them:

Order placed Friday 4/29-backordered.
Order shipped Wednesday 5/4
USPS attempted insured delivery on Friday 5/6, but I wasn't home
Finally was able to make it to the post office yesterday to pick them up.

Pics:
Packaging, comes with disasembly/assembly instructions. Needs a 3/32 hex head (not included) to disassemble.

out of the package, side view:

comparison of three magazines (all new):
Butler Creek steel lips 25 round mag, Ruger BX-25 and Eagle 30 round mag

Feed lips:
Left is Butler Creek steel lips, center is Ruger BX-25 and right is Eagle 30 round mag

No range report yet, but the Ruger looks and feels good, but then again I've had no problems with either the Butler Creek or the Eagle magazines that I've used over the years.
