So which one's cheaper to shoot? :DThe Mini-14. =D
Sweet! With a high-wood stock even!
rondog, what distinguishes a high wood stock?
Nice carbine, by the way.

Funny guy LOL. I just got an M1 carbine and the ammo cost just as much as my .357 ammo

Thanks. As for the "high-wood" stock, the quick and dirty Google search came up with this http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=21200
Also, I shamelessly borrowed some images from another web site to show the difference between the two.

Just be careful shooting it with the high wood stock. There is a reason they switched. They had a tendency to crack, its not so much of a safety issue but more of a "destroying your sexy piece of history issue"
Ok maybe a slight safety issue.
What cartouches are on your stock?

What cartouches are on your stock?Good question. I can't quite make out what the first one is...

However, according to this page (http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/28254-Some-M1-Carbine-production-dates-cartouche-markings), it appears to be an early Rock-Ola stock.

I hate you.
All i'm saying is that that Rock-ola stock would look sweet on my Rock-ola.[Flower]
Thats a piece of history there. They say that rock-ola made the best stocks because they did a lot of wood woking before the war for cabinets and the juke boxes.
One of my all time favorite carbines. I had a Rockola back in the day. I still regret selling it...

Seriously though, get on the CMP website and order an aftermarket stock to shoot it with. I'd hate for that stock to get ruined.
I like it. A very nice piece!

Added the sling and a replica M4 bayonet with M8 scabbard. All I need to get now is a stock ammo pouch and I'll be all set!

Added a Harris Bipod with the Harris Bipod Adapter for the Mini 14 and the TrueGlo 3-9x50 scope. One of these days when the wind is calm enough, I'll take it to the range and get it sighted in.
