Well got a call from my wife that her sisters pup (9mo old) was involved in a accident and died. They have 8 kids that adored this dog and the oldest is taking it hard. They got the dog when the moved out east onto some land because the kids mostly the oldest boy (13) was not going to be able to see their friends so the dog naturally became the oldest boys best buddy.

If it was just a simple accident I think it would be easier but my brother in law is a deisel truck driver and we he went to leave this morning he thought that the dog was back in the house well he wasn't. What makes it worse is his son was in the cab of the truck and saw everything.

So I want to find them another asap because they are hurting very very bad and I know it was just an accident. If anyone can help please let me know and thanks ahead of time. Sorry if this post is hard to read I'm on my phone and it's hard to navigate.

I have a pregnant dog right now. Any day they will be here. Course you would have to wait 10 weeks, but they could still pick one out and visit it and stuff. Let me know man. Would love to work something out. You would be first or second pick cause we have somebody interested now too.

Edit : I should say they are golden labs. great dogs. The male is 110 , the female is 85. No hip problems in thee line.

Maybe you should consider lab alternatives. Labs can be nice but a lot of them are dumber than a bag of rocks. Labradoodles are mixes of labs and standard poodles. They shed less and have some smarts.

Umm huh, have never heard that one before...

They had a yellow and I have a black and both are and were very intellegent. I think that it comes down to the owner wanting to take the time to train the dog as apposed to just calling Labs a stupid breed.

I have had dogs all my life and know the traits of the different breeds, I currantly have 4 and not one is less intellegent than the other allthough I will say some are more stubborn than others...Cough Cough (Jack Russel's). Like I said it all comes down to the owners.

Best of luck man, that's very unfortunate to hear. People are "rehoming" their pets on craigslist all day long. You might be able to find one there, petfinder.com is another site that links to MANY rescues in the area.

No, you really have to be careful about the lineage as some places are breeding family trees that look more like a twisted plumb line.
watch out for puppy mills and amateur breeders. They tend to be the primary offenders.
Granted after that it is up to the owner. But even the best owner and trainer cannot make an idiot into a genius.

This expresses my views much more diplomatically than I did. Any popular breed is at risk of lots of bad versions coming from the puppy mills. They breed every heat rather than once a year. Since the buyers aren't checking papers they breed any old stud, way too often a littermate so bad character traits and health issues get worse. Labs are very popular now so the mills are cranking them out. There are serious breeders producing quality but you have to find them.

My wife did a rescue of a puppy mill lab. It almost broke us up when were dating. He was untrainable, had no attention span and was prone to random fits of psychotic rage. It almost broke us up. If you're looking for a puppy it would be great to observe the Mom and siblings before you choose.

labs are great dogs, great hunters and are pretty smart. some are a bit clumsy, but they are loyal and obedient when trained.
labradoodles are retarded. my father-in-law has one and the dog is retarded. the neighbors have one and it looks ridiculous and even after lots of paid for training, still worthless.

Indeed! Now THAT'S a dog! My pitbull is super smart. He's learned obedience skills, potty training, tricks, etc faster than my sister's german shepherd. A Cane Corso compares to my dog like a college student compares to a first grader.

so what happened?

I understand the desire to replace the puppy, but what's the rush?

kids have to learn about mortality sometime, right?
