My friend has some land in elizabeth. He has invited me to come over Friday after work to do a little shooting. My worry is that he lives near a highschool. We would mainly be shooting trap, and the clays will be thrown away from the school.

Here is a map with the school circled, and his property squared off.

Nope not as long as you have a safe backstop and are not violating any city, county or state laws.

Why? Looking at the map you are at least 2000ft away that is more than enough. Even Federal law is only 1000ft. I would be more concerned with makeing sure it is not a violation of some city ordinance. If the property is not inside city limits make sure it is not a violation of some county ordinance.

In Douglas county for instance they have a county ordinance that if there is more than x amount of people per sqaure mile you can not shoot on your property.

As long as there is no law against it shoot away I would not even worry about the school.
