View Full Version : Sound suppressor being sold on ebay?
So anyway, I was just surfin lookin for a new flash suppressor and I came across this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260755028362
WTF? Someone is selling a sound suppressor on ebay? 1/2 UNF threads is the only description given as to its fit.
And with that BS, I'm going to bed.

Airsoft.
It's 1/2 inch though, wouldn't that be to easy to adapt?

It says its for airguns, so I'm sure that's how it's "legal". And it's polished aluminum so it isn't evil.
Looks like it'll fit .17, .22, and .25 calibers though.... and anything inbetween, so I suppose one could adapt it for an AR.
The seller is located in Nicosia, Cyprus. It's not a U.S. NFA issue.

Considering the all aluminum construction, I am pretty sure if you tried to adapt this to an AR your first trip to the range with it would be filled with disappointment.
If you go to the website he has listed on ebay, he even states if it doesn't fit your rifle, you can look up UNF adapters to make it fit if it falls in its calliber range. At 1:35 he even says that you can use it on rimfire.

what he says and what it will actually work with pressure wise are two different things.
UNF threads are in 1/2" size a 1/2 x 20 (course thread) not a standard size for u.s military of gunsmith turned bbl's. If it was a UNEF (Extra Fine) threaded then that would be a 1/2 x 28 application.
it isn't US so atf can't do anything. now if he ships one to the US, then there might be issues, more than likely for the buyer though.

ehh, only if the buyer uses an adapter and bolts it to a weapon governed by the ATF.
as designed, manufactured and sold, I dont believe it would fall into their jurisdiction. Like anything though, there is potential for modification and abuse.

If it can be made to function as a firearm sound suppressor (and that one will), then it's a firearm sound suppressor, and subject to the NFA in the USA. That the thread is not a standard firearm barrel thread doesn't matter.
Hell, ATF has declared some airsoft receivers to be machineguns because they could be adapted to work with an AR-15 upper assembly and discharge a shot, though that's certainly not what they're designed, intended to be, or generally used for.

If they would just legalize them then the guy in the bad neighborhood could get some sleep at night.

the latest NRA email reported I think 2 states trying to pass lawful hunting with a legally owned suppressor.
In Europe, almost every single .22 rimfire pistol/rifle made there has ½" UNF thread for silencer, it is nothing srange in Greece.
Aluminium silencer will last on AR-15 thousands of rounds and with little steel reinforcement 5-number amount of shots. Full-auto applications separately...
I had alu AR-15 silencer for hunting. Worked nicely for that purpose because it was so lighweight, but prevented my ears ringing after couple of shots without hearing protection :)
IMHO about all of gun laws in US, silencer thing is strangest. Allright, you can use it as a hammer and break someones bones with big steel silencer... But, sorry I just can not see silencers otherwise as dangerous objects :)

It is something that was not covered as a right or liberty in the constitution, so we will tax the living hell out of you for it.
not because its dangerous, but because the BATFE needs more money to chase your guns.

Yeap!! The other one I have a hard time understanding is the illegality of Automatic Knives... [Dunno]
