I just need to get this out,!!!i went shooting yesterday 4-3-11 to my second favorite spot in Buffalo Creek(my first being the closed Harris Park)anyway i could not believe the trash and junk laying everywhere, people bring items such as,washers, microwaves, chunks of metal etc, shoot it and then leave it,not to mention the empty cases all over and i mean all over its ridiculous!!!!this just gives the anti-gun folk more fodder to close our shooting spots,so come on people(and whoever does this)knock it the F#%$ off!!!.....and please pick up your mess!!!!!!!!!!thank you..and sorry for the rant

I say we go around to all these trashed spots, collect all the brass, sort it and give em to the reloaders here on COAR, then distribute it out to all our active members.

Yeah I was at a spot out at Pawnee this weekend and it was the same way. Garbage and trash everywhere. And I mean everywhere. Thousands and thousands of shotgun shells. Garbage and trash all over, there is even a car out there.....

The problem is NOT the members on this site, so while these threads and rants help us release some stress it falls on deaf ears, because the folks here are the responsible ones who DO take care of the shooting sights and clean up after themselves. Its the "weekend warriors" who shoot a few times a year and go and trash a sight and then just leave. Its very disheartening, because we know "they" are just gonna keep shutting these sights down, and then where will we be????

Its really unfortunate to see this continuing.

We did pack out what we brought in and an additional two garbage bags of crap, but that unfortunately didnt even scratch the surface of the shit that was out there.

Ya its crap like this that got Deckers shut down to! I guess they just whent next door to Buffalo creek. It sucks!! I reload so all of my brass, steel cases and targets come back out with me ! Along with as much stuff as I can stand to pick up from all the other Assholes that leave their SHIT there!!

Thank you to all that pickup after them selves after shooting, camping, and all outdoor activity!!! [Beer]

At least it is still pretty rare to see any trash laying around down at the NRA Whitting Center, Raton, NM. There are numerous barrels right behind the firing line for cardboard boxes, used targets and unwanted empty cartridge cases. There usually is still quite a number of empty steel cases laying by the firing line. I believe that is because when the shooter is ready to leave, he/she doesn't want to have to wait for the next break/intermission to police up their steel empties. At least that's what happens down at Whittington. Also, there are frequent visits by the facility staff to make sure that all is going as expected.

Back when I lived in Co, I would do most of my shooting on the BLM land just north of Brush Hollow Reservoir. I would clean out the truck bed before I went there, and would always have a bed full when I got home. Kinda felt like I was the only person picking crap up. But hey it is always worth it.

we had cleanup days at HP range then last year a group took over as voluntary clean and policeing so far worked out OK.

Was up at Pawnee last week, picked up all my brass, trash and what not, and filled my trunk with a garbage bag full of shotgun shells and shot pigeons. Got a lot of brass in calibers I don't use, but what the hell, if I get enough I might have to invest in another firearm. [Tooth]

Before it got shut down, there was a BIG clean up effort @ Rampart Range. Several members from this site went as well as volunteers from the Rocky Mtn Elk Foundation, several Ft. Carson units, USFS, etc.

The USFS brought in a huge construction dumpster but everybody who could haul it took a full load of garbage out with them too because the dumpster was overflowing.

The reports I hear were that they barely made a dent in all of the garbage that had been left up there. The sad thing is that 2 weeks after the cleanup, one of the cleanup participants went up to do some shooting and had this to say:

Went to Rampart to do a little pistol shooting today. Just 2 weeks after the big cleanup, it was trashed. Tape from VHS tapes all over the place. TVs, computer monitors and all sorts of other trash on all the ranges.

I would have taken a picture to post here, but it is just too disturbing how inconsiderate some people are. They just don't get it.

Additionally, had to be extra careful because of some people up there trying to scoop up spent brass before it even hits the ground after being ejected.

I think I can write Rampart Range off of my places to visit anymore. :(

While the shooting gave them the final excuse to shut it down, the constant reports of crime and the excess amounts of garbage were certainly driving forces in keeping the range shut down after the shooting investigation wrapped up.

Those that leave such messes will just go off and find some other place(s) to ruin when the established ranges get closed. It is those of us who are responsible that seem to lose the most so we have a vested interest in addressing those who leave messes if it is safe to do so and getting their license information and reporting them to the USFS in all cases.

You know I can almost put up with empty 22 cases because they're small and hard to pick up. But shotgun cartridges, 2 inches long and brighly colored, but I guess they're hard to spot and pick up too.

In the past 2 weeks I've been up past Jamestown and picked up 2 bucket fulls of the offending red, yellow, blue & green cartridges. My kids have a competition to see who can pick up the most.

I may have to find an alternative spot that is ideally less well known.

For every reason listed above I want them to close all of the open ranges and at the same time to keep them open and go out and do a weekly volunteer cleanup :(

Why in the hell is it I have to have a license to drive, a license to carry my firearm and a license to have a dog. Any two drunken idiots can have offspring that believe its their right to go out and fuck it up for the rest of us.

I flat out told one of my wife's friends last week I would turn their dumb-asses in. They had broken their TV during one of their domestic tirades and he was going to take it out and shoot it up.[Mad]

Seriously, Shoot only Paper, Target grade plastic or clay. Then everything needs to go to be recycled or find its way to the trashcan. Amazingly simple, I know. No, I do not belong to MENSA.

Well people are pigs whether cigarette smokers or at the range. If there is no trash can to throw things they leave it lying on the ground.
I don't understand why people cannot even return grocery carts to the store or the holding areas. It is human nature and all I know to do is chastise them when I see it or pick up after them.

How many times do I have to tell you, No Means No!
The fact you keep telling me that you are a power bottom doesn't make any difference.

All of your wishful thinking won't change anything.

I was wondering about the possibility of putting a trash bin out there. I assume idiots would just shoot that too, but there seems to be enough of us on here that use the same few sites that we may be able to maintain a couple trash barrels. Just pull the bag when you leave kind of thing. Might be worth asking the forest service about. I worry every time I head to the south site because the place is a dump, and the number of times I have seen people tack their targets to trees. Its just going to get shut down unless something is done. Maybe even a sign, just "don't shot trees, pack out what you bring in"

Opinions?

you are talking about people that cannot pour piss from a boot with the instructions written on the heel

Trashcans and signs would be used as targets/holders.

Had another idea! what of a cleaning day, organized with all of us knowing, but get some side benefits going to get people there. Maybe get some kind of carbine/pistol class going, I'm sure a few on here are capable to teach something? little multi-gun match? Even just running a bunch of drills together? Admission is a bag of trash and 20 rounds and 20 bucks for the instructor? I bet we could even throw together something of a prize event, or come up with funds to pay a proper instructor. Kind of a pay it forward.

if we let the areas forest service office know we are trying might help our cause too.

I'm basically just throwing turds at a wall and hoping one sticks.

I think I will throw this idea up as its own thread in the GD and see what interest it gets.
