What do you think? I might be moving down there this fall for school. What areas are better than others?

Thanks

Stay away from area north of zoo on west side of town. Area east of I 25 on old hwy 50 don't let the sun set on your ass in this area either
If you have family go to Pueblo West

In my experience, stay away from the East side of town, Southeast specifically. Pueblo has developed a rather large gang problem in recent years, but like most places, if you don't gang bang, you don't usually have any problems. If it were me, I would prefer to live in Pueblo West. Take my opinion for what its worth, I haven't spent much time in Pueblo over the last 5 or so years, but I am from La Junta, so I have spent my fair share of time in Pueblo over the years.

Avoiding it is out of the question

I've done this more times than I can count, lucky nothing bad ever happened, but good advise none the less.

The school and the life you'll get with it ain't bad. Pretty fun school actually.
But like the others said.... the further east and south you go, the more you'll really want to be carrying.

CSU lies on the Northeast'ish side of town, right by the Belmont area, which wasn't too bad of an area years ago, but not sure how it is now. Personally, I would still try for somewhere in Pueblo West, and make the commute. Definitely not much of a commute, since your used to Metro area traffic.

I thought CSU was in Ft Collins? (not being a smart ass, just a question)

I live in Pueblo West. It's nice, lots of new houses out here, very convenient you can get most anything you need out here. There's a new ER, a Wal-Mart that's never packed and always nice, a Safeway, a new gun store, and an awesome (members only) range. If you want to go shooting there sometime let me know, it's only $3 for a guest. Come Jan 1st, call to get your name on the waiting list for a membership.

Not sure if you're looking for a house or an apt. There are some shitty apartments in Pueblo West, kinda low-rent stuff. I had a friend who lived here for a year in that area. They're not bad, I wouldn't feel unsafe there, just kinda crappy.

It gets extremely windy in P.West, less so down in the valley where Pueblo proper is. Great views though, I can see from Pikes Peak down to Spanish Peaks and the Sangre de Christos from here. You can see clear across town to the power station on the south east side, which is neat. And dark skies ordinance means the stars are out and beautiful.

The area right around the school, just to the south, seems nice. The neighborhood there probably dates to the '70s, but well maintained. The houses are much too close for me to want to live there though. The area west of the school, just west of I-25 north of Hwy 50 is also nice, called Eagleridge.

The south side of Pueblo, well the south-west side basically out on the road to Beulah seems nice. You get into lots of ranches out there.

I basically moved to Colorado straight into P.West, so I can't tell you too much about Pueblo proper. This is by far the smallest town I've ever lived in, even if you add Pueblo and Pueblo West together. People are extremely friendly, cost of living is very low, but there aren't nearly as any concerts or other events to attend. You can find lots of live music, and there are lots of bars in town, if that's your thing. Pueblo West is under an hour to the COS airport, which is where I fly out of. Anything out of PUB just sucks, don't even bother. If you like aircraft, make sure you check out the Weisbrod Aircraft museum out at the airport.

My two cents, hope it helps.

I too live in Pueblo West. I've worked throughout Pueblo and like all cities, there are real shitty areas. That being said, lots of property crime in the apartments around the University. There are gang issues scattered around town. Drive the areas you are thinking about, if it looks clean and nice, it probably is a good place to live. Like Hoosier said, great members only range in Pueblo West. Also a nice sporting clays and shooting range on the far (far) east part of town, several well stocked gun shops too. Great Mexican food... Yes, most of the neighborhoods East of I-25 are considered pretty rough, but I regularly see a lot of crime reports on the TV news (rape, murder, stabbings, home invasions, robberies, etc.) for areas up to a mile to the West of I-25 also.

Go Pueblo West if you can help it.

Pueblo West is pretty spread out, so a lot of it will depend on how long it takes you to get to Hwy 50. I'd say it's about 15 to 20 minutes on average to get to the campus. It'll take longer if you do it around "rush hour" as there are some more cars on the road then. Coming from big towns to here I'm reluctant to even use the word "rush hour" though. In the three+ years I've been here, only once have I been in a proper traffic jam, and that was for a rather nasty accident.

Both my g/f and I have thought about completing our degrees at CSU Pueblo. I'd also like to learn how to weld, was thinking I might find a one-off class I could take there to do that.

I don't really know Pueblo proper that well, so I'm a surprised to hear about all the crime these other guys are reporting. I only tend to go downtown or to the mall out that direction.

Well spent the entire day driving around Pueblo looking at places. We like Belmont and abordene ( spelling?.) Issues is its been hard to find a place to rent that's not a shit hole. All the nice ones are to buy. However we found one in west that I like a lot. Its off McCoullgh. (Sp again?). But it seems like a nice enough town

It's called McCulloch, like the chainsaw http://www.mccullochpower.com/node7865.aspx

Literally, my agent told me that members of whoever owned that family bought all the land in P.West that's encased by that railroad tie fence. They plotted and bulldozed out the streets, and then used light aircraft to tour around prospective buyers. No idea of the validity of it, just what my relator said.

That is the main drag through the south side of P.West... on Hwy 50 coming west from Pueblo McCulloch hits Hwy 50 twice, making a large loop south near the lake. You'll hear people say they live off the "first" or "second McCulloch" depending on which exit is closer to their house.

If you end up in P.W. send me a private message i'll take you to the range up here, it's really nice.

Looks like we got a place in the sunset sub division. Nice house green grass and a big yard!
