As long as zoning allows it, you will get your FFL.

You have to go talk to the zoning people for Denver County.

? what does zoning have to do with an FFL?

? what does zoning have to do with an FFL?

It's just another weapon ATF uses to shut down "kitchen table" FFL,s.

If you want to be a "home" FFL (work gun shows only, work at home only etc..) then you have to get your zoning departments blessing before your FFL will be issued.

I've actually been wondering the same thing for here in the Springs - so this is good info to know.

I've heard in the past that it's just smarter/better/less hassle to rent a small storefront location as a front for hte business even if you really do everything out of your home for ease and convenience.

All this because I've got folks at work encouraging me to get an FFL.

Dave at Protekt does it out of his house. He would be the best guy to ask. IIRC he is allowed to sell guns, but is not allowed to sell ammo (as an ffl at least).

It would be really convenient to have your own FFL. What is the annual fee?

which sounds good on paper. Once YOU laid out cash, time and jumped through the hoops to procure your FFL, EVERYONE who said to get it will vanish like a dealer working the corner when a LE rolls by. it is a cutthroat business that competes with internet sales for accessories and dealing with established shops who have 30-90 days net with distributors.
If you were looking to do it to save yourself mark up prices weigh the initial outlay vs. how much you actually spend per year.
I may be wrong on this next part (haven't we heard that before) BUT i think (key word) any firearms you take in as an FFL must go in your bound book. this could put a damper on any FTF deals you do. AGAIN i could be wrong, or it is a gray area
YMMV

No Jim, I think you are right on the mark. But then again, I could be wrong too.

It's because of these things that I haven't even started the process yet.

Back in the day a few friends got FFL's so we could buy from Shotgun News. I've heard it is a huge PITA now and you have to jump through all kinds of hoops. Just saying [Beer]

Many years ago I partnered with a friend and used his address. It did get pulled a few years later du to the zoning issue, being strictly residential. It does depend on county. Douglas is loose. I know an FFL using his house and a few other businesses in residential areas.

You are 100% correct in that if you are a FFL licensed dealer, when you buy or trade, the firearm that you give and/or the one you receive MUST be entered in the bound book. FTF deals would be a very very risky/touchy thing. Gave up my 01 FFL when they provided so damn many hoops that we had to try to jump through.
