Thinking of using the protiturkey decoy, she has on fishnets and a general trashy look, brings em in guranteed so they say.

Season doesnt open for another week for me. I'm hunting on our farm in Kansas. Just counted 5 Toms in the yard before I headed for home today, and told them I'd see 'em next week... I'll post pics of the big river birds next weekend.

I was too pissed, no roadkill for me. It was a headshot too. Small buck took out the front left fender and drivers door. Stupid deer ran into me after I thought I missed it. I'm not sure the DOW would have believed me if I got checked fishing anyways. Cooler full of backstrap and a .22 rifle in the backseat that I was taking to Sully3acr in LakeGeorge. Not a good combo.

Sherriffs have no fuk'n idea about game or how to kill a hit deer/elk, etc so what's the worry.

DOW looking for fish in a cooler. DOW finds back straps in cooler and rifle in back seat = jail time. Sherrif's a non issue, just DOW. We didnt call the popo, my buddy only has liability and didnt need a popo report.

I have a buddy thats a Jeffco Sherriff and the stink of the deal is if the Sherriff has to discharge his firearm to put the animal down there is a Sh-t load of paper work for them to fill out. Thats why I'm askin if I can slit it's neck and the officer will be Ok with that?? I'm down with that and my Fat Belly will be filled!![Beer]

45 YDS! That new H&S squealling hen call really made the difference! The Tom really came in running before I terminated him! I'll try to get a pic up in the morning.

It's quiet down here on the east foothills. I've put in about 20+ hours, 7100-8400 feet, and heard NADA! Ran into another hunter, same story. Found some huge tracks in some old mud. I wonder if the hard winter hurt the population or delayed mating? I'll save my energy and go back out in a few weeks. I can't remember the last time I hunted a whole morning and didn't even get a gobble. Anyway, congrats Montrose, well deserved with your determination.

Thanks Reticon! I did put some hours in the field this past 3 days. I was due for a Turkey! It's been 4 years! I don't want to sound like I'm pitchin this H&S squealer, but it really works. It's great for the areas where the Turkeys are a little educated to all the callers. $15 bucks at Wally World!

I've seen them off of Wadsworth blvd. just across the highway from Chatfield reservoir. So I would assume Roxborough State Park and the surrounding area has them.

Thanks. It's cool to see what locals are saying about the game. I'm hunting between Beulah and Rye. I figure I'll get back out there next weekend if the wind finally dies down. I'm also glad to hear that folks are hearing gobbles, or like you bagging a big tom. I was starting to think the harsh winter had killed them off or something.

One of my employee's with me got his as well. Never saw us in our plane jane work clothes. Notice the R.A.R. Guns long sleeve in the pic. 10" beard, 1 inch spures. Ugly as hell.

First and only gobble I heard all season. Then walking out with him there was a hen right in front of my truck! Until this morning I hadn't seen anything. He's not huge but with the wind picking up again and it being Easter weekend seemed like a good take.

Thx everyone.

1 shot #2 Remington Nitro 3". A 6 year old box that has bagged 2 so far. I figure I could get another 19 or so out of it. :-) I shot twice at the last bird and wasted 3 rounds back in 2006. haha. Don't laugh at my Mossberg either, I've had it since I was 13. Sentimental.

I'm hunting out behind Beulah, and I went yesterday cause the weather had the wind in single digits until lunch time. All textbook, I covered a lot of ground from 5-6ish owl calling (i don't have any shock calls I just make it up) and finally heard one gobble that I bee-lined for, using wind gusts to cover my sound. He was roosted on the lee-side overlooking a smaller meadow off of a real big one. Once I had his one gobble the only other thing I did was box call a tiny bit once I knew I was real close, he was chirping (or whatever you call that quiet sound). Since I was really far off when I heard the one gobble I figure I got pretty lucky in pinpointing him and not spooking him. You can see the edge of the meadow to my right, and the tree I'm under might actually be the one he roosted in. I stayed uphill from him and probably got him at about 15 yards. 1 bb in the breast, the rest in the head. I didn't know for sure it was the gobbler until he stuck his head up real high and I could see his beard, not strutting. I think he may have been on to me. Anyway, I could tell he wasn't huge but the wind was already picking up again and I figured I'd take what I could get. Especially with him holding his head up so high. He sure was great eating for my wife and our 4 kids! Those cooking bags are great!
