View Full Version : Disappointed with the "Want to Buy" section of this forum

Seems like the "For Sale" section gets quite a bit of traffic as do the "General Discussion" type sections. But seems like there aren't many people who look through the "Want to Buy" section to see if they can help a fellow board member out. If anyone posts a "want to buy" ad anywhere where it might actually get a little traffic then it is moved to the "Want to Buy" section to be put out to pasture.

Sorry. A little bored and just had to vent I guess. Have a good evening! [Beer]

There's a section for wanted, why would those posts go anywhere else? Maybe no one has something to sell you?

Unnecessary whining...

I frequently visit the WTB section. I just never have anything anyone else wants that I would get rid of.

I click on New Posts, usually don't browse any specific forum. Everyone needs to put a really good description in the title of the posts, if I see "WTB: Ruger 10/22", that makes sense to me. I don't have one for sale, I move on.

If the title reads "I need stuff..." "looking for..." and not further information on the thread title, I'm not inclined to look at the thread in depth.

All about marketing. I'm not going to dig through 100's of threads in the wanted section unless I'm really bored for some reason. (can't say that I ever have browsed WTB section yet)

Maybe it seems like I am whinning. But here is the point I was trying to make.

In the "Firearms for Sale" section the first page of ads has been viewed over 7300 times. That averages out to over 365 views per ad.

The "Want to Buy" first page has been viewed just over 550 times which means those ads are averaging 28 views.

Just seems like people don't look at that section very much. I guess maybe there are more people looking to buy things than sell things.

Anyways, sorry to come across as a whiner. Have a nice evening.[Beer]

Posted in the want to buy section a couple of weeks ago. Found what I wanted from someone I know ftf at a fair price and made the purchase. So far, I'm batting 1000 in the wtb section.
Bad titles and unreasonable desires kill most of the wtb threads. Kills a lot of the wts threads for that matter too.

I've always got what I needed on the WTB section, guess I'm lucky. I do see how it's overlooked though so yes a good title will draw people in. I guess it comes with experience of wheeling'-n-dealin'....you know how to get peoples attention!!

I'm a "New Posts" surfer too. Doesn't matter what kind of forum I'm visiting, I only look at the New Posts or Today's Posts. I very rarely visit specific sections unless I'm looking for something, or a certain thread. I also rarely sell anything so I never go looking to see if anybody wants to buy my stuff, since I ain't sellin'.

I don't go to the WTB often but I did post there twice today. Posted a couple of time with no response.

I look through all new threads and anything with an update in the Wanted To Buy forum several times a day (I don't think my viewing updates the count though).

It's the only way I can keep things updated - like I did with hte one you closed earlier with the "disappointed" comment for hte reason (see, I read 'em).

I have had luck on the WTB section. However, I agree with the OP. I would love to see the Firearms For Sale section stay the way it is and then have just a General Classified section for everything else. But I ain't going to bitch, it's pretty darn good the way it is. I have had very good luck here and I have met some good dudes.

MY $0.02 FWIW

If more sellers or potential sellers looked in the WTB section and vice versa for the WTB folks
there would possibly be less item sactually for sale. I see in the FS forum say WTS: .357 date stamped 4/01/2011 11:00am. then in the WTB sec posted 4/01/2011 dated stamped 11:10
WTB: .357 if the WTB posted took the time to browse (not saying everyone ) the other classified sections first the WTB ad may have had no need to be posted.
I know a few WTB folks i have pm'd steering them to the FS item the are looking for.
YMMV

I always check the wanted section several times a day I just have not had something I wanted to get rid of yet that another member has been asking for.

If I have something that I want to sell I will put it in the firearms or accessories sections. I usually don't look in the WTB section. I tried posting there a couple of times and did not get responses.

It's really hit or miss with WTB, some folks just may not have what you are looking for, and if they do, they don't want to part with it.

I posted up looking for a G20, a little over a week ago, I didn't expect to find anybody looking to part with theirs, but low and behold, shortly after I had a PM. I've also posted looking to buy some more common items, and never had any offers. Just all depends.

I always glance and have had a couple of items that I could part with. Of course we do have those that post in the WTB section and forgot this is not Craigslist.

Wanted to buy; Transferable M16. Must be in top notch condition with under 100 rds through it. Have $1200 cash in hand for the right one. Please, no junk and do not waste my precious time with any other trade or cash offers. I know what they are worth because I used to work at Sportsman's Warehouse. I am located in North Dakota and you must deliver to me at 3am in the third row of the Dairy Queen parking lot.

Once again I have cash in hand and someone will make a nice payday

Typically I will scan the WTB forum before putting something up for sale. If I don't see any, then I advertise as normal.

I saw something interesting on another forum last night. There were a couple of guys looking for stuff that they just put in their signature line. I don't know if it works but I don't see why it wouldn't.
