So me and my lady are traveling in June. US territories, so no passport really needed, but I figured what the hell and get it anyways cus ya never know. Get all my stuff together, go down to the passport office today and much to my surprise my birth certificate is no good. Great, they will only take a "state issued" cirtificate, not the one I have that came from the military base that I was born on in Texas. Awesome, it was good enough to be the birth certificate that I presented when I enlisted into the military, but not good enough now. Now I have to wait for Texas to send one out and get to me, and then will have to pay the extra $60 for expidited passport service. Oh ya, and I'm moving in the next 2 weeks, so who the hell knows where my letter from the satate of Texas will show up.

Thats all, just needed to vent some frustrations

Jacked up system we got. [Bang]

I've never had a birth certificate, my records supposedly burned in the hospital (all manual data in that time & place) before being archived to a legal record in my state of birth. Used my Military dependant ID and a Certificate of Baptism to acquire a passport in childhood. Used that current-at-the-time passport and same cert to enter the service in 83' and now...I just never let my passport expire. Can't, it's all I have legally.

Moral - Always renew / aquire early in the 10-year cycle. Good luck. :)

Gee, and I still have the same copy of the BC that I have had, since I needed it in 6th grade to wrestle and football.

I was born on a military base in the 50's and can't find that birth certificate. So guess I am screwed if I wanted or needed a passport. And since I don't exactly look like a white boy, I better start learning a second language other than espanol, so I at least won't get deported to south of the border.

Evidently those are useless anyways since military birth certs are only recognized by the military I guess. The process of getting a "real" certificate was easy enough, but now I have to wait and may not have my passport by the time I need it.

And now I'm gonna have to deal with the ration of crap from the "Jscwerve birthers" not believing the cert is authentic.

Dammit.

You're lucky, I had to fly to New Frickin Jersey to get my new format birth certificate, and wait all day in line in Trenton. I was there when the place opened, and ended up being the last person processed at 5pm. I had to do it in person, otherwise they would only send it signature required to the address on my drivers license. Since I just moved across the country and needed a birth cert for my new drivers license, that wouldn't have worked.

I need to get a copy of mine. I have had a military ID since 1980 and I let my last passport expire a few years ago. Started thinking about doing some traveling and know I need it.

Now that's just funny!

Isn't it ironic how it's a pain in the ass for a regular Joe who just wants to take a little vacation. But you wanna do something really important like be president...you don't need no stinkin' BC.

I had to send my fiance to Las Vegas to get her passport. She was in and out by 9am and got to drink and gamble for the rest of the day.

I ran into the same "State Issued Birth Certificate only" crap with helping both of my kids get learners permits here in CO. They were both born on Scott AFB in IL and only had "county issued" birth certificates.

As much as I despise IL, I was at least able to contact their state office for birth certificates and get official copies of their state certificates within 2 weeks. Of course, they charged something like $35 to expedite the request and another $35 for the first official "original" copy (with state seal) and another $2 - $4 per original copy after the first - if getting more than 1 "original" at at time. We opted to get 5 copies for each kid at once so we'd never have to worry about having to get another "first copy".

All told, we spent just under $100 per kid to get copies of their birth certificate.

What I can't understand is why they even bother with county issued birth certificates since no one will accept them these days.

Sort of funny story.... When I went to the county office about a month after my son was born to get a copy of his (county issued) birth certificate, I noticed that the USAF hostpital screwed up MY DOB on my sons birth cert to the same year as his birth - 6 months in the future (talk about immaculate conception). Cost me $25 to get that fixed.
