View Full Version : Vortex SPARC
Read a lot about this item and it seems like a great red dot sight for the $179 I am paying (Usually $199, and $289 on Vortex website). Anybody have any experience with this optic?
The $179 deal I am getting is from http://www.3riversprecision.com/index.php Promo Code: macsparc

No personal experience with them. Here is a review from AR15.com

I usually get opticsplanet.com to price match other sites and get the free shipping also.

Thanks for the link. I actually saw that not too long ago which made me want it in the fist place. Seemed like a good beginner/intermediate dot.
3 Rivers Precision gave me free shipping with it as well.

looks interesting. I would worry about the glass quality if you have parallax within 50 yds though. An inch at 50 yds isn't a huge issue, but its a systemic result of cheaper glass. It could be more difficult to get good focus at longer distances.
I don't have any time on this red-dot, but tons of hours on Aimpoints and other 1-4x scopes. Parallax free and everything is in focus regardless of the distance for the most part.
Just food for thought.

Its not as good as a Aimpoint Micro, but for the price there real nice.
Just got it over the weekend. Looks great so far for the price, nice and bright. Will have to go shoot with it soon.

So, NBui4, have you gotten to shoot with it yet? I'm seriously thinking about picking one of these up as well. Seeing how this sight plus a LaRue qd mount is still well under the price of an aimpoint.
Unfortunately not yet, all the reviews and videos I've watched on this say its GTG and stay sighted in with any bumps/drops etc. It's still not an Aimpoint, but good enough for the occasional shooter like me. Got a set of scope covers from Gander Mountain on sale for $10 a pair (#4 butler creek obj). Comes with a 2x screw on magnifier that makes the field of view really small. For now I'm satisfied with the mount as well which as a few different riser options for 1/3 or full co-witness. Brightness doesn't appear to be an issue. I also hear Vortex is very good with quality assurance/product replacement. About all I can say without taking it to the range. Will be sure to add more when I do.

Shot and TESTED!
Went to Cherry Creek yesterday to get sighted in. Want to start off that I am not a great shot by no means, and have only shot 200 rounds through my AR. Took me less than 30 rds to get sighted in and get on the red @ 50m since it was very easy to adjust. Had no problems with brightness at all or the 2x magnifier. Great optic in my opinion, but again I don't have a lot of experience.

Everything to the left of red was prior to sighting in, these are the 30 rounds or so I took to get sighted in, but after that it was a decently tight group in the center.
I have around a thousand rounds through my AR with a SPARC, and it's still holding zero fine.
I think you'll be happy with it.
One problem I've heard of is the dot will turn off or flicker. If this happens to you, tighten the battery cover, not just finger tight.
That should solve the problem.

+1 for the Spark and all vortex product. They are the best value available.
Cheers!

I have a Vortex sight on one of my ARs.
It turned off and on randomly during the Pueblo Tactical Rifle shoot last weekend. In addition to that, the 2x magnifier worked itself loose after the first stage.
On the plus side, just the 2x magnifier was enough to be able to see and hit the 440 yd silhouette target.
When it worked, it worked very well. Now, I'm not so sure.

Just got off the phone with a very nice lady @ Vortex. Problem solved. With customer service like what I've seen, I look forward to purchasing more items from Vortex.
