View Full Version : Pearl Street Mall Boulder....becoming the armpit of Colorado

So I have some time this afternoon, it's a beautiful day in Boulder, and my wife and I decide to take our 6 year old and 2 year old daughters out for a walk on the mall. My son is now 16, when he was much younger I would take him to the mall on a nice night like tonight and we'd be treated to hours of entertainment from the buskers. Great performances and great people watching.

Today was much much different. First off when we get there we immediately notice the lack of buskers and only street hobo with a ratty guitar singing at the top of his lungs very off-key. Next we see what appears to be 50 street rats dressed in nasty clothing all over the grassy area in front of the old court house. Our kids are still having fun completely oblivious to our surroundings. We decide maybe pizza would be nice, we go inside, get a couple of slices and sit outside in the seating area provided for customers. What I can only describe as a wafey-crack-whore comes out of the shop next to the pizza place, stands not 6 feet from our table, and lights up a cigarette. Before she can get the lighter away I, as politely as possible, ask her to please move down wind so that my daughters don't have to inhale her smoke. She takes exactly 2 steps takes a deep drag, and inhales. I now stand up, really not wanting a confrontation, but necessary that I don't sit there like a sap. I say again, please, before this becomes a problem can you please move away from out table. She yells..."I'm 15 feet from your table and I can legally smoke" Now, this is about to get out of hand, the 2 crack-guys she's with immediately realize I'm 6' 250lbs and they want no piece of me and they take off, but the crack whore wants to yell, my wife is about to jump over the fence but I notice a Boulder Police Officer just standing there about 20 feet just observing, she does too and starts to walk away. The cop however would like a moment of her time then sends her on her way. The cops moves, she turns and gives me the finger. We laugh and finish our pizza.

Looks like we'll be finding other parts of town to take in the sights next time its a nice evening.

I'm in Boulder. Too many bums, too many enablers. I am one of the few "haters" was called that recently by a bum. I wish they would clean up the Pearl St area, young junkies and bums. If people would stop giving cash and enabling, the problem would fix itself. I've thought about buying bums one way bus tickets to Miami. I wonder if I could get the city to fund vacations for bums.

Agree with all. When I first moved here from Chicago 16? years ago- Pearl Street Mall was a lot of fun with the buskers and street speakers. Used to go there all of time. I think I actually decided that Boulder was no longer cool when the Boulder Public Library decided that a display of colored dildos hanging from the ceiling was art.[ROFL2]

California is nice to the homless- as they would say in southpark

I cant stand boulder, I served my time at CU, now im in a much friendlier place where i don't have to worry about cops giving me a ticket for somebody else lighting off fireworks in front of my shit-pile of a house.[Rant2]

All of the comments of what Boulder has become goes with the territory of it being a bastion of liberal ideology. These people are bred like zombies by the prevalent thinking of most of Boulder. Sad, but once they adopted the liberal mentality it was their destiny to have this exact setting. It's only going to get worse too.

Not so fast. The last big fire burned up my TV. I lent it to a friend. It was not old. but it was heavy as hell, but still HD. He loaded up all his girl's stuff, but he could not carry the TV. They lost everything that could not fit in his Dakota. I would wish that upon no one.

Ive often wished that the ocean would swallow Denver, Brighton and Thornton. Ski and surf, epic!! Bass Pro would have to be on a cruise ship though.
Just being honest.

you're just mad because you live in that dump of a city. If the bums and hippies and liberal shit goes away in boulder I will buy you a new TV. until then, boulder can burn burn burn.

wtf is wrong with Brighton and Thornton?

personally, I would like to build a wall about 80' high around Boulder and fill it with concrete.
I mean, Look at CU... spending MILLIONS on fighting against peoples right to carry, then they want to raise in state tuition and get more money from the state because of budget costs. STOP SPENDING ON STUPID SHIT.

It's like Himmler creating a "Jew tax" to cover the gas costs.

I thought you couldn't smoke in Boulder... Never been to that mall, but I used to drive a carriage on the 16th St Mall in Denver. In the three years that I did that I watched that mall go down hill from, lack of a better term, pieces of shit all over. The bums and "playas" hang where the money is.

My wife and I decided that, should there be a next time, we'll enter each business, find something we like, go to the counter to buy it, then tell the manager or owner that we've decided not to buy the item because of their lack of support in cleaning up the area of the street trash.

My first impression with Boulder is still my lasting one and that is when I first moved here a long time ago I went to Boulder for business - two things set the stage for me. One is that I was at a stop light and there was a guy on a bicycle next to me (stopped, those were the good old days, not like now where lights mean nothing to them) and his feet were on the pedals and his bike was perfectly balanced, without him jiggling the handlebars to keep the bike up - I was quite impressed! A few blocks later I'm at a stop sign and there is a woman at the bus stop and I couldn't help but notice how she had some super hairy armpits and I thought "wow, just wow". Glancing at her legs I noticed that those were quite hairy as well but what really got me was that she had neglected to (how to put this delicately for a family friendly site) to wear a particular set of protective clothing and, well, had gone native in a place that she should not have been advertising at a bus stop in the first place! Basically, razors must have been on ration at the time!

Every time I see some dirty hippie in Boulder I think back to that day and now I just say "welcome to Boulder".

The illegals in brighton would probably be the biggest reason. Other than that Brighton has really improved over the last 15 years.

I thought the liberal commies outlawed EVIL CIGARETTES in boulder. Actually I am sorry your kids had to hear a weird woman scream and freak out. Pearl street is a dump, I spent 19 years of my life in boulder and areas like pearl are a dump. I am suprised this woman was not given the death penalty for lighting up a cigarette in the Communist Republic of Boulder.

Boulder can be a great place to live depending on where you live, South or East boulder are the best you will not encounter the freaks who call Pearl st their home. Property values are some of the best. The Flatirons are the most beautiful in the whole front range. School districts are some of the richest in the state, If you take time in your kids life the sky is the limit with Boulders school districts. You know your kids are not missing education since 80 percent of your classes are not catered to spanish speaking kids. You know your kid is not gonna be a crip or blood or sureno in boulder. But they may become a liberal "just as scary I suppose". And stupid laws are abundant. Nazi laws against smokers, low gas mileage SUVs or trucks.

I say we pack up Boulder (and most of the City of Denver), and since they aspire to be like Kalifornia, we should ship them there, put up a fence around the state, and finally agitate the San Andreas Fault to the point that "The Big One" happens and the state becomes a reef under the ocean. We could then take the area formerly know as Boulder and turn it into one heck of a shooting range. [M2]

I'm far from a liberal, but If I was a socialist liberal. I would be driving around on my bicycle or in my community ride share mini car. Wearing my chey guevara shirt, hipster glasses and tight pants. I would hang out in front of Ice Cream shops looking to destroy a family's evening. You would find me hanging out at intersections during the day acting crazy with my cardboard sign and trying to pet your dog in your truck.

Pearls St. Mall has gone downhill. IMHO the 16th St. Mall is far worse. The smell of piss coming out of the alleys turned my stomach.

50 street rats dressed in nasty clothing all over the grassy area in front of the old court houseSadly, there is something called freedom of assembly. Cops can't do anything unless they are causing trouble. Somehow they are always on their best behavior when the cops walk by. My solution would be intermittent lawn sprinklers...or firefighter hose practice. :D

I have heard of business' paying buskers to NOT play in front of their business.
