In response to http://coloradoshooting.org/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4029 HunterCO and myself have brought it upon ourselves to bring the great addiction that is shotguns to you all.
so
Everyone will meet at
June 3rd 9am at Colorado Clays
Bring your shotguns, and about 200 rounds of ammo. (7.5 or smaller, i would suggest 1oz loads of #8's for about everything)
bring whatever you wish. If you want to really learn, we can show you or if you just want to go shoot, we can do that too.
The one thing a shotgunner never forgets is his excuse.

How much MOOLA should we bring?

I usually shoot about 2 rounds of sporting clays ($55) or 1 round of clays and a couple rounds of skeet ($30 + $6/ round)
So, about $60 or so
if you have a vest or thing to hold shells that would be useful and you'll find that helps a lot. I have a few spares I'll bring.
eye and ear protection obviously.
Bring at least 200 rounds, I'd just buy a flat (250). There is ammo for sale on site. I'd suggest #8's for all around use and 1 oz loads if you can find them. (recoil is cumulative and 1 oz blows up clays just fine)

I usually just go to sportsmans and buy a flat of shells for about $45. I have a sporting clay bag as well as a vest makes it nice but it is not needed. You can just throw your shells in a duffle bag and when your up to shoot set a box of shells on the railing I did that many times.
Most important thing is to remember to make fun of the other guy when he misses. [roll]

So?
who's coming?
what kind of range (distance) are we talking about?
recommended choke?

I shoot a double gun on sporting clays or skeet, I usually leave mine alone and leave it at cylinder and improved cylinder. My wife changes hers all the time between skeet, IC and modified.
For a single barrel, I would probalby put in a cylinder.
We might do some skeet esp. for people new to it and for that you want as wide open as you can get. cylinder or a skeet choke. But of course, most good people (not me) shoot skeet with a .410 so......
If I had to pick one I'd say IC.
oh distance:
skeet from 10 feet to the longest shot is about 20 yards.
sporting clays can be from 10 yards to really as far as 60 yards (but to be honest, nobody hits those anyway, so why bother?) most shots are from 10 to 30 yards.

I normally use either my cobra choke which is cylinder wide open or my skeet choke. Once in a while if a station has clays 30+ yards I will put in my IC.
I would say the best all around choke is skeet that is what I use 99% of the time.
It's looking more and more likely that I"ll be able to come to this one.
I'll do my best to get there. Also I hope to bring a few more of my friends. We need a Shotgun Smiley here.

For those of you that have never shot sporting clays don't blame me when you become addicted like a crack addict. :P
Next thing you know your standing on a street corner with a sign that says "Will Work For Shells".
Brian when it gets closer we need a head count to see if we can all be in one group or split up into 2 groups. Anymore than ten in a group takes to long at each station. I usually like to keep it around 6 per group but I guess we will see.
I will try to make it, but Uncle Sam likes to make my plans for me. I leave again soon for Iraq, so I can always play the I need time off with the wife and kids card...

I figured we'd split up into smaller groups of 4 to 6 and seperate out.
and if you are really new, we can start with skeet and break into smaller groups.
It turns out that I'm a much better instructor than a shooter
Meet at the clubhouse (can't miss it) between 9 and 9:30. You'll have to sign your life away anyway and figure out what we're doing.
Remember, you need some way to carry 100 shells with you on the clays course.

Also make sure to remove the round in the end of the barrel. [roll]

Just got back from sportsmans and damn shells have come down only $38 for a flat. I grabed my shells yesterday from Sportsman's on South Wadsworth and got a great deal on a pair of 3-1/2 blade Uncle Henrys Knifes. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y220/Tedwantsthemdead/UncleHenry.jpg They were regularly $29.99 ea. on clearance for $14.99 buy one get one free! So I paid $ about $7.50 ea. I might go back and get a couple more and put them away for gifts.

I just heard from a friend that at Dick's on Hwy 7 and I-25 (which is a pretty good way to get to Colo Clays from the north) that AA's and STS's are less than $50 a box.
That's a pretty good price

And Tom from the paint store should be there, He will probably bring a friend. and Steve from where I work just might show up. TTKHUNTER was my "Ringer" so all bets are off the rest of us stink.

I know Wallery took some pics and he said he was going to post them.
Where were you?
It was nice to meet all of you. It was cool to see the wives come out to be adult supervision. Coolest was Brian and Deniese spending their anniversary at the range shooting with each other, instead of at each other.
Paul and I had a good time and we both learned a lot. This was my first time shooting a round of sporting clays. Lots of skeet and IPSC shotgun, but not any Sporting Clays. Now I know why they call it golf with guns. All Paul and I could talk about on the way home was a dove hunting trip to Argentina sometime next year.
I didnt feel like I needed more than Improved Cylinder 'cept for a few shots.
And I remembered to bring Brain his brass. My memory is perfect, but it is also very short.
I also got to meet Elvis. I kept looking for Jim Morrison, but he must have been hiding on the skeet or trap fields.
Thanks to Delphi, I averted certain death and dismemberment when I remembered to take the shell out of the end of my barrel.
