Just had some on the grill a couple nights ago. Father keeps pushing me to eat it, has several hundred pounds still in the freezer. It was good, I just can't eat meat anymore, it makes me really sick for some reason and the docs can't figure out why.
Sorry to hear you're all out though.

I think it was unit 28? Or 38? I can't remember, Just west of Fraiser.

I wish I could! not in the budget right now. The DOW said I could start to put in for a COW now. They say you have to wait 3 years after taking a Bull before you can put in. But I have some friends that have been putting in for cows for 6 years now and still have'nt drawn.

It is like drawing for antelope in 68 I have 8 pref points and still have not drawn also have 8 for bighorn do not see that one happening any time soon either

Nope. Thanks for asking though. Serious internal issues, just know which foods I cannot eat anymore. I did the moose just as a test of the meat and my body, didn't work out so good, back to eating salads. [Rant1]
I believe the Fraisier area is where my dad has killed both his cow moose too. (archery)

Ya when I called DOW on my tag, He asked me how long I have been putting in? I said 8 years, I'm not showing any pref. points, he said. I got pissed!
He said wait a min. the only reason you would not have them pause pause is if pause you got it? pause, And you DID!! Hey Joe I 'm talking to someone that got his Moose tag!! No SHIT I hear in the back ground. He said that they only issued 70 Moose tags in CO. that season. I think 30 were Bulls and 40 were cows. He said they had like 72,000 aps come through. You just won the LOTTERY he said! [Tooth]
The story get better, but I have to hit the sack right now, I'll catch up tomorrow!! The Moose Charged me!! [Rant2]
i have put in for 4 years, this year will be the 5th. hoping to draw someday!
also putting in for bighorn and mountain goat for the same time. I think they take quite a bit longer though.
i can't wait to go moose hunting! monster of an animal!
sorry you are all out! I haven't had moose, but I sure love my elk meat. I have plenty of that, deer, antelope, and lots of pheasant still.

I probably will never get a tag in Colorado. I have never gotten one for anything not sure what I am doing wrong. I will just go and buy left over tags at walmart. Funny thing is I get the tag at walmart for what I was trying to draw. As for moose I will go to Alaska for that and ship that meat home. It will end up being easer for me I think. Cost a heck of a lot more but man is it going to be fun!

out of state fees for AK moose tag are $$
it works out to more that $1 per pound added, on top of travel & guide costs...
but if you think Moose in CO are big... I've been within 100yrds of bulls you could park a VW bug under... they are friggin HUGE... never hunted moose when I lived there (left when I was 18), but they were common & massive.
just bring something to protect yourself from grizz.. they're HUGE, too.
I've been intimidated by Moose I've seen in person, but nearly wet my pants the first time I was that close to a wild Grizzly... I was about 50ft from the shotgun when it happened, and he was about 100yrds, but wasn't sure I could make it...

have never seen a grizzly in the wild but
the girl I worked with in the forest service decided it would be a good idea to take pictures of a calf and momma she barely made it back to the truck. and we had to explain why the brand new pickup had multiple hoof prints on the hood it was a fun day.[Swim]

yeah, the moose in AK are big enough to be >VERY< dangerous- I remember the last Idtitarod when I lived there- one musher lost 4-5 dogs to a Moose encounter...
they don't just kick backwards, they kick sideways, and forwards... and NEVER, EVER get between a cow and her calf... I'd rather face a grizzly.
Hell hath no fury like a mother scorned... (or something like that)
oh, and DSB- I'm both sympathetic & jealous at the same time, it's been much longer since I enjoyed Moose meat... my fave, even better than buffalo

Okay, looking at the pics you posted, I don't think that was just ANY bull moose you shot...
Dude, you killed Bullwinkle!
Oh wait..., no Sarah Palin got him - you must have gotten his brother.

Got a cow way back, still waiting on my bull tag. They will issue over 108 this year and areas expanded.
Family got a cow 2 years ago meat finally gone from that.
Ah boo-frickidy-hoo..."I drew a moose tag, filled it, and ate it all!" Poor you ya lucky bastard. [Tooth]

I have seen one moose in the wild and that was about 50 miles east of Labarge, Wy in the Green River eating on some water veggies.
They are fucking huge and always wanted to try moose meat.
Is it as tasty as elk or venison?

It's hard to compare anything to it. It's not gamey at all, has a mild flaver to it . I would put it between beef and buffalo. Their diet is alot different than Elk and Deer. They feed mainly on willows and aquatic plants. And yes they are fricking huge. I figured my Moose to be about 1200 lbs. on the hoof. [Weight][Tooth]

Thats great that the momma has 2 babies. Any chance at pics sometime in the future? [Beer]
I was watching Alaska State Troopers I think, and a woman killed a momma moose because it supposedly charged her, well the momma had 2 babies and the Alaska DOW "humanly" put the 2 babies down since little chance of survival for them.
Rather pissed me off that they couldnt have figured out a way to get them to a sanctuary or a zoo or something else instead of killing them. [Bang][Bang]
that would be pushing the upper limits of the moose weight for the Shiras, found here in CO.

Yeah I saw that episode too. Put the couple down as they don't need to live in AK.

MY friend and his dad both drew a tag for bighorn with 4-5 on pikes about three years back, the man must not like you

Ya he was a pretty big boy. Out of the 4 quarters and some of the neck meat, I got 380 lbs back from Steves Meat market. And that did not include the back strap, I made sure I kept that.

We do our own, Don't trust Steve or any of the meat processors.

I used to do my own, but the moose just was a bit overwhelming. So I tired Steve's. Found out they did a general grind on the burger even though it's madatory for head testing. I got pissed at Steves wife, she tried to tell me that is was not mandatory for head testing on moose. I showed her my submission test tag. She just said Ohh. Will that be credit card or check?? I won't be going back. [Beer]
