View Full Version : What should I call my 1911

Background: A friend of mine was one of the managers at mile high shooting park (in Lafayette). One of the gun smiths who frequented there built him the 1911 pictured below (using Colt Mk IV slide and essex frame). About a year later he traded the gun to me for a computer (which he has since realized I got the better end of the deal).

When I have been asked the brand I really didnt know what to reply with. So any suggestions are welcome, if anyone has an idea of what its worth that would be fun to know as well.

Seabee; not like a navy boy, more like a C.B. as in "Custom Build".

Yep, I presume its similar when we build an AR with a bunch of different parts. I remember seeing a thread similar to this on ARFCOM.

I would think if someone asks you "who makes that gun" you can say "oh this?, this is a custom built 1911".

I have some AR's and one of them has a DPMS lower and a Custom upper, and one has a M&P lower and a DelTon upper, when asked what they are I refer to them, respectfully, DPMS and M&P

I would "think" any firearm would be classified by the part of the gun that carries the serial #

Sounds logical enough SeaBee on an Essex Frame.

Sorry, it looked like there was rust on the two pins just behind the grip in the first picture.

I believe that legally it would be considered an Essex.

"Loud 'sex"
"Horse 'sex"
"Glue Factory"
Seeing how it is a blend of parts and horse meat is an ingredient in it:
"Alpo"

No worries not a place I generally think to clean so it was just build up on old lubricant.

Cleaned to see if it was rust and looks much better now.

I think you should call it "donation" and meet down at Park Meadows all.

Now that we know there is no rust, Rusty is an even better name.

Unless you prefer Chester, or El Bigote de la Justicia.

The frame determines what it is, an Essex.
