I got me a ak-47 today thinking ammo would be plentiful and cheap, like when I used to shoot my sks back a couple years ago. was I ever wrong, where are you guys getting ammo? and how much are you paying? I found only one place with it in stock, and paid $160.00/1000 rounds. wtf happened to the $90.00/1000 find it everywhere day's? no wonder the guy sold me the rifle for $250.00.

I'm getting mine at the gun show, can't speak to quality.. it might be wolf, and I think I paid around 70 or 80 for it for 500. Nah, it ain't much cheaper than my 223 ammo. BUT it is a damn fun gun. And hey, if you're really unhappy with the ammo prices, I'd be happy to take that AK off your hands :)

it's not the price as much as the availibilty, everyone I talked to said it will be august before they get any in stock. I was just wondering what happened to the surplus of this stuff there used to be? the russians are probally selling all of it to the iraqis to shoot at our soldiers with. :?:

The rumor I heard on ARFcom was that the US was buying it to supply the Iraqui militairy and police.

I placed an order with Sportsman’s Guide last week for a friend and I for over $600 of ammo (2000 rounds of .223, 1000 of 7.62x39, and 1500 rounds of 9mm) and EVERYTHING was backordered. Their subsonic 9mm is backordered until August 28th!!!

So, where the hell is all the ammo? Am I going to have to start reloading?

Back in March when everyone was in a panic I got 2-3,000 rounds from SG, CTD and Cabelas in a 2 week period

Turns out I was lucky

I just canceled an order with SG for some x39 when they moved my ship date for the third time (to July) and my 5.45 order just slipped another 2 weeks as well

But I've been buying surplus .308 at Jensen's all year and occasionally some .223
Also, just bought 4000 rounds of .223 Black Hills from Kieser Munitions.
Although he did say his next batch was going up in price because BH had gone up. (Jensen's said the same thing)

I pay 95$ for 1000 round FMJ at the sportsmans guide... the wait takes about 3 weeks
