So I had about 8 rounds through it and the trigger pin backed out of the receiver locking the whole thing up. Went to a vice, supported the head of the trigger pin and gently tapped the reciever around the small end of the trigger pin. The reciever pulled in and the trigger pin was then in the right position. While I was in there I smoothed up the hammer face.
Ran it this afternoon. It went 20 rounds with the bolt sticking every 3-4 rounds. I would pull the bolt back a 1/4" and let it chamber the next round. After that it went 50 rounds without problem (would have went more but it was all the ammo I had) . In retrospect I was also running the weapon without lube. Should have lightly lubed it. I bet it would have ran better sooner. I have always been of the opinion that a weapon has to have 200 or so rounds in it to start judging its reliability. Even though this is an old gun (1986) with a new receiver I guess that it is really starting all over. Reguardless I am extreamly happy with it so far (need to finish it at the next build party) and looking foward to the next 200 rounds. Thanks the guys at the build party and Willies Wagon for his help: without your build party I would not have ever gotten this far.

Hey LH, glad to help. Get some ammo, oil that puppy up and have fun  I have a few that are in the finish curing stage, then it's time to re-finish the wood. All in all, I've had a great time tinkering on the kits I have. What a cool hobby.
yea put some rounds thru it, and it will get better, oh yea and use some clp on it

Got the picture thing up and going. Ran 200 rounds through it this afternoon (after putting some Tetra Lube on the rails) ran like a top.

I had 3 rifle builds out this past weekend.
Amazing how fast you can dump a 75-round drum magazine!!!!

I'll have to post pics later.
Nice ak looks allot like mine :)
Also one thing i have learned about the romanian front grips is that they get in the way of inserting 30 round magazines....
This problem is easly fixed, i filed it down in the spot where it meets with the 30 round mag and causes problems by about 1 inch, and than smoothed the wood out. IF your carefull it can look very professional and turn it into an effective front grip, without making you work hard inserting mags.

Yea, I noticed that on a couple of mag changes I ended up hitting the foregrip with the mag (I'm new to AKs and Rommys, but used to run a Mini-14 back in the day ). I realized that the mag only needs 1/2" or so of pivioting to allow it to be pulled down and out of the receiver.
I am moving the forearm (in the above picture) to build number two, a copy of a AIMS-47 (WillysWagon is partly to blame for that  ). Since this picture was taken I have replaced it with a Rommy G handguard that I cut down to a AKM profile. Not much wood there, and I tell you she gets hot fast.
ya... i like plenty of heat shielding one hundred rounds through it, and you accidentally touch the metal and say hi to a brand new blister....
I'm actually thinking of making my next AK chromed... that should look really nice, i'll show you guys what it turns out like once it's done.
my modified romy hand guard

nice, carfull with those fingers now.... i can just see the skin peeling off and sticking to the gas chamber on top if you held it on accident....
actually waiting on an ultimak for an aimpoint clone to go there, that gun has seen eleventeen different configurations, and so far i think i found what i like, this one feels good to shoot. just need to work on cosmetic part now. I am a function over looks type person. looks are nice, but how does it feel to you is more important to me unless its a collector piece
BTW you have a nice rifle, the wood looks real nice on it.
thanks, and ya i agree with you on that function thing... my rifle gave me hassles with accepting 30 rd mags before i filed some of the vertical grip off... so it workes just fine...
i'd rather have a well working rifle than one thats pretty :)
Although i like to think mine is very pretty(as is yours) for bieng a hand made assault rifle
I'm gonna chrome my next ak build... i imagine it will look somthing like this

Mr_Will is that a fixed Ace stock? Looks good, but I have to be honest with you that gas tube being exposed makes my newly aquired blister hurt...

Delphi- I like the look chrome look, and the brushed chrome is much more appealing than the polished chrome or for the ultimate bling the Gold plated Lord of War/Uday special. Overall I shy away from even Stainless steel weapons, nothing personal, I am just that way.
hrmm stainless steel i dunno... but the chrome looks pretty flashy, i've thought about gold plating but that would be expensive!!

yes ace midlength skeleton stock
double on the blister thing... what i think would look real good and keep the blisters away would be a black top handguard
