Can anyone recommend a good place to get some ink? I have been looking for a place around the Castle Rock area and found a place called White Lotus Tattoo. This would be my first tattoo (I have one designed) so of course I want someone good to do it.

Been a couple of years since I've been there, But If Travis is still there ask for him. You may not get it then and there depending on the Tat. I wanted a Gargoyle, gave him some pics and some ideas. Said he would call me, few weeks later, had a design turned out sweet.[Beer]

I'm not a fan of White Lotus. I've seen them do some decent stuff, but I've also seen some pretty crappy work come out of there.

+1 for Dark Millennia, its over on the northwest corner of Broadway and Quincy (on Broadway a couple miles south of 285). My buddy Van owns the place and does some awesome work, in fact he was invited down to Vegas to work with Mario Barth last year. I'm friends with a few artists and he's the only one I let near me with a tattoo gun. I would HIGHLY recommend going and talking to him, he's usually in the shop from around noon to 5ish Tuesday/Wednesday/Friday unless an appointment runs late. He does have a waiting period though, I got some work done around Xmas last year and he mentioned he was booking 3 months out, but that could have increased or decreased since then.
I don't much like the artists that work for him though. They aren't bad, but ask for Van, well worth the wait.
I can PM you the number if you'd like.

A tattoo is a permenant reminder of temporary insanity. I got a couple and wish I didn't.
I got one of mine at a place on South Broadway just a little North of Hampden on the West side of the road in a house turned into a business. I can't remember the name of it but they sucked. The tattoo was okay but they over charged and he acted like he was some kind of god instead of a tattoo artist. It was years ago but I can still remember wanting to kick his punk ass.

Ask for Nik, he's my nephew formerly an apprentice of ours many decades ago. he was working at Phantom 8 on south broadway in englewood then got together with some other artist from other well known studio's to open his own place this year. if you get him or have to leave a message tell him Uncle Jim from up north told to call.

Whether it be Nik or someone else, i suggest you look at their portfolio and ask questions. A good artist is only part of the equation. You must feel comfortable with them and be able to click. A tattoo is permanent and the commitment last a life time. Also see how current their training is if any regarding blood-bourne pathogens and cross contamination. Do they do single use needle and tube (not a necessity) providing their autoclave is working correctly, but single use is or has become the norm. Are their work areas clean, double glove during the work. do they remove their gloves if there's a phone call for them etc......

I'll suggest that Jim knows his tattoo stuff.

Should that not work out for you, the only other person I would trust to tattoo me (besides me) is Riley at Art With Heart in Aurora; his work is amazing.

MadMatt at Phantom 8 can do anything. He has done half my work.

And a second for Nik at stronghold.

also Jeff Kopp is amazing, used to own Th'ink Tank, not sure where he is now.

Nick at Jack of Diamonds in arvada is damn good too.

Best advice, get to know your artist, find one you that you like not only their work but also who they are. Makes a huge difference.

I'll second this. I know Jim (he has a hell of a shot in lacrosse as well) and I've seen his work. He is very well known in the industry. He is the type of person that wouldn't allow someone to do work in his shop that doesn't meet his standards.
