I received this in regards to a guitar I had for sale on CL. He originally asked what condition it is in.
"Good to have your response. I am Kester from WA, posted here at the
military base at San Diego Ca, I would have wished to schedule
time/date so as to come over your residence for proper inspection
before the completion of this deal, though i have been buying and
selling on craigslist and due to the fact it's secured, i am scared
free hence i wanna go ahead and finalize this transaction with you
reason been that my job won't permit me to under go any further
inspection due to i am US Trainee Marine Engineer and i am at the
marine boot camp taking place here at San Diego. I am purchasing this
for my uncle who just under an open heart surgery in southeast Alaska
too as a surprise gift, i want an adequate assurance from you as
regards it's present condition described. I will appreciate more
pictures if available and will be sending your money asap. My shipper
will be available for pickup as soon as payment is made. Do you have
paypal account? because, I have a paypal account that I can easily
send money through due to, its good for business payments and best
online auction payment method. Get back to me with your paypal email
address and name in order for me to have your money sent on time.
Confirm sale to me and
remove the add from posting.
regards
Kester Ed,"
I replied with:
"Sure! My paypal account is gofuckyourself@ufuckingscammer.net
Eat shit and die, you ESL (English as a second language) scammer piece of shit.
Learn proper English and you might getaway with this.
Ass Hat!
Sent from my iPhoneece of shit"
The moral of this story is this guy is out there on a bunch of other forums. Google search his name. I found him on AR15.com, so watch your ads.

Well, at least you were one of the smart ones and caught on to his scam. Think of all the nieve people out there that dont see the scam and send there info to this POS.
I sell stuff on CL quite a bit and at the very top of every add I put.
***SCAMMERS STAY AWAY. I WILL NOT SHIP AND I WILL NOT TAKE A MONEY ORDER. LOCAL SALE AND CASH ONLY, SO DONT BOTHER TRYING TO CONTACT ME***
Kinda sad you have to start an add like that, but since I started doing it, I havnt had any issues. I think it helps out and these guys just move on to someone else.
Glad it worked out for you.
I don't know. His grammar is better then some people I have traded messages with on this board. Luckily, most of those have moved on.

I think I have actually had someone try to send one of those fake money order to an address like the one above

paypal account? because, I have a paypal account that I can easily send money through due to, its good for business payments and best online auction payment method.
I am confused... If he sends the money via PayPal, wouldn't this mean that the funds are guaranteed? What am I missing?

It's some way they take your money by sending you "too much on accident". He's a confirmed piece of human shit/ oxygen thief.
He prays on people who have hard on's for the military and feels sorry for them. Like I said if he learns the lingity he may have a chance. I won't sell to someone local who does not possess a basic knowledge of the English language.
So the check we just got for 500.00 too much is bogus???

ROFL
Paypal is real money just make sure you log in to paypal by typing in the URL yourself or making sure it starts with www.paypal.com nothing else. Money orders and cashier checks are all fake. But make them send you one anyway it costs them money and nothing to you. Just have them send it to your local police station or something?

Wow, that wasn't even good English for a second language. Not even the criminals are measuring up anymore. It's just sad.

Ok I found a few examples of how this works. I found these using google.
If this is a scam, here's a scenario:
(1) You accept the ads, they pay with paypal.
(2) You check with PayPal, and there is no credit from the advertisers. You call them, (nicely) and ask what's up. Now matter what the explanation turns out to be, they vow to "try again."
(3) It happens again.
(4) They claim there must be something wring with your or their paypal account, and need more information from you. Or, you might get and official-looking a email from "PayPal" describing this particular problem and asking you to log in via a link. The fake e-mail links to what looks like PayPal, you enter your user name and password. This is where they attempt to hijack/steal your account.
(5) Once they have the password, they have control of your account, they can send money to anyone else, as your account is linked to a checking account.
Another one
When a stolen credit card is used to purchase goods or services through PayPal, the money can seem to appear in your account. In fact, you can even withdrawal the money after it has been transfered to you.
But as soon as PayPal realizes the credit card was stolen, they immediately debit your account for the value of the transaction. Even if you've already withdrawn the money and provided whatever good or service you were offering, PayPal still holds you liable for the fraudulent credit card that was used to pay you from half a world away.
CL sucks and I hate scammers. If I had a gun with two bullets and was in a room with a scammer, and Bin Laden, I'd shoot the scammer twice!
I would shoot the scammer twice and pistol whip the shit out of Bin Laden until he admits Obama and him are lovers.
Paypal does have a few loopholes in it, and I wouldn't recommend using it unless a seller has an established positive feedback thread (E.G. on Ebay, here, or other forums).
