View Full Version : Annual Shotgun Fun Shoot!
It's that time of year again folks, It's time to pick a date for the 2011 CO-AR-15 Shooters Club 6th Annual Shot Gunners Fun Shoot! The event will be held at Colorado Clays Shooting Range http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php (http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php) and they’re open to the public and memberships are not required. CO. AR-15 Club Members, Family & Friends are all welcome to join us in a fun filled day of Sporting Clay Shooting. Don’t worry beginners and first time shooters will be mixed in with more experienced shooters. Non- Shooter, Spectators, and Score keepers are welcome. Gun Club and Range Safety Rules Apply. A variety of Clay Target Shooting is available Trap, Skeet & Sporting Clays. We prefer to shoot the Sporting Clay Course, (similar to golf where each group moves between stations 1 thru 15.) Scores are kept on a score sheet but, they are meaningless because we’re just shooting for fun. We’ll Shoot 2 (two) rounds of sporting clays with a lunch break in the middle. You may choose to shoot only one round or stay for both. The first round starts about 9:30am – 10:00am with Lunch around Noon and the last round starts about 1:00pm and is described as the (Evil Black Shot Gun Round) but if you don’t have one don’t worry shoot whatever you got it’s okay. We usually plan it in May or June on a Saturday from 9:00am to 2:30pm or so. Please let us know if you would like to attend and how many. I’ll check with Colorado Clays and see what their event Calendar looks like so I can post a couple of dates to choose from. Majority rules on which day it will be held. Please post your comments.

Is this open to those dirty imported foreign Saiga's or do you have to have a fancy engraved break back fox hunting heirloom?
If so then then I will use the old 2 rd'r and would go for a May date, sometime in June the wife wants to go visit the in-laws in Texas!

Should be 100 shells per round of clays if I remember correctly. I usually only shoot the first half, shoulder hurts too bad after that many!
I'll be there unless something drastic comes up, since I prompted Wallary to post this up.
I'll try to bring the whole family this time and let the oldest shoot if he's up for it. Will try to bring some friends too!

Hey Leatherneck, If you're talking about how many shells to bring then plan on 4 boxes of 25 shells per box or 100 shells. (per round) I usually bring a case of cheap 7 1/2 shot target loads. Nothing bigger than 7 1/2 shot are allowed. Also make sure you bring a shotgun that can shoot two shells without reloading for shooting doubles. I other words a single shot will not work for sporting clays. Chech out there web site for details, http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php (http://www.coloradoclays.com/index.php)

So far it's looking like May 14th for the Fun shoot, but I'll run the poll for 1 more week before we make it finial. We might try to put another CO AR-15 fun shoot together for June also. Let me know if you’re interested.

I've counted my ammo, need to dig out the shotgun of choice, I'll bring the one that functions better this time. I have a couple of friends that should make it also and they might even shoot! (First timers)
Still trying to gather a few more friends, and force my family to go with me. :)
Im in, so tagging for final date.

Let me know when the June shoot is. We have out of town guests in May, so it's a no go day for me!
Thanks,
Jason
And the WINNER is...... May 14th!!! Okay mark your calendar Saturday May 14th at Colorado Clays [WooHoo] I'll need a little help organizing the groups when we get there. Please let me know if you've never shot sporting clays before, so we can mix up the groups with experienced shooters. Each group can have up to 6 or 7 shooters anymore than that goes really slow. Bring your lunch and something to drink (no - alcohol until after the shoot). BTW they do have a BBQ there we can use if anyone wants to grill some grub. You'll need to carry all your stuff around the course. I have a baby stroller converted into a gun cart to carry all my shooting bag, ammo, and guns. Try to get there around 9:30 am and sign their waiver form before you shoot. The first half will start no later than 10:00 am. If you’re late you can still catch up to the groups no problem, just grab a score card and come find us. Or hang out and shoot Trap or Skeet until lunch. We take a lunch break then we shoot the Evil Black Shotgun round in the afternoon. You can use any shotgun you have no mater what color or model. Remember everyone needs to bring eye and ear protection (even the non-shooters) also single shot shoguns will not work for sporting clay doubles. Side by sides, over & under Double Barrels, Pumps, and Semi-Automatics are the best. “Target shells only” 2 ¾ inch shells with nothing bigger than 7 ½ shot is allowed so, leave the heavy loads at home. I’ll post a reminded when it gets closer to the shoot so start getting ready. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

I have two disagreements
1. 6 or 7 people is WAY too big of group. I'll be shooting someone by halfway thru the course. 4 or 5 people is better.
2. Side by sides are clearly the best. [Twist]
As Wallary said, low easy loads are fine. 12ga 1oz loads of #8 shot are a fine choice for just about everything you'll see and won't beat you to death. (can get in cheapie estate brand usually at sportsmen warehouse)

I don't post often or know very much and suck at shooting clays but I'll drop by if I'm allowed to bring my Saiga and 10 round mags. I'll bring by some burger patties if someone brings the buns and charcoal/gas

I'd like to shoot again in June, maybe we can call it part 2 of the May 14th shoot. What do you say June 11th? [Coffee]
Who's all going? I'll be there about 9:30, bringing my Wife and a couple of friends. Let me know so I can let them at Colorado Clays about how many of us will be there. Be sure to check in at the Club House, tell them your with the CO-AR-15 Shooters Club. First time shooters need to sign the insurance waiver thingy. If you have any questions lets hear them now so everyone can be ready come Saturday. [Clays]
I'm going and may bring one other person.

I should be there, if I can shake this sinus cold that has knocked me down.
I hope to bring the wife and kids, not sure if they are shooting. If anything we'll have score keepers, button pushers and comments from the peanut gallery.
A friend and his girlfriend should be there, and I believe they will attempt clays as new shooters.
I have invited a few others, but no confirmations as of yet. I'll check with them and report back.
I vote for the 25th, mainly because I just might actually be on that side of the divide by then. [Beer]
I am 98% sure I will be there. I will try to talk the wife into coming but she won't be shooting. I will ask 2 of my buddies that I shoot with a lot if they would like to come.
Is there any cost to come, do we bring our own clays or pay for some there?
2 boxes of 100 enough for the day? per shooter of course.

I'd also add that 200 rounds is the exact round count, I suggest bringing just a few extra. The first time I went to this shoot, on the tower one of the guys dropped a round that feel through the floor. He was shooting 16ga if I remember right and couldn't find it, so was short a shot.

My sister and brother-in-law decided to go on vacation last minute, and no one else was willing/able to watch their place while they are away. Needless to say, I got guilted into it.
So... count me out :(

We did get the BBQ working good after all. TriggerHappy grilled us up some Moose sausage that was awesome good. It started to spit a little and was getting pretty cold at the start of the 2nd round and then about the 3rd or 4th station it stopped sprinkling and got warmer. We were dry and quite comfortable all the way to the end. It was about 3:30 ish. We didn't hit rain until we hit Denver City Limits. It turned out to be a great day for shooting after all. I'll try to get another shoot together in June if anyone is interested. Thanks again to everyone there, I had a blast.

Wow, the storm must have blown west or something, just as we turned down the road from colorado clays parking lot, it was just pouring down rain. :)
Setup another one of these shoots in a couple of months, I'll stick around afterwards and will bring some moose steaks or something from dad's freezer. :)
