Been thinking about picking up a little .17HMR for plinking or prairie dogs. Any opinions on decent ones? Seems like a few folks have gone with Savage for these

I have a Savage with the bull barrel and accu-trigger. I don't think that you can do any better for the money.

Savage, Marlin, or CZ. I have three Marlins, I just liked the feel and finish better than the Savage. The Malin does not have as nice of a trigger but than can be fixed with a spring swap or a Rifle Basix trigger.

I have a CZ 452 American in .17hmr and its a tack driver. Accounted for more prairie dogs than I can count out to 251 yards (my longest laser confirmed kill). I like the rifle so much that I just picked up its twin in .22 mag to keep it company. IMHO, an accurate .17 hmr is the ultimate prairie dog platform for walking up dogtowns. Comparatively economic to a centerfire and less expensive rifles. I hear lots of good things about the savages too.

The very best 17HMR is a good 22lr. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.[ROFL1]

I have had a Savage and a Marlin. Both were very accurate and they were not very expensive. I would still rather have a good 22lr.JMO

A buddy had a .17, awesome rifle (i have a confirmed P-dog kill at 300yrds) but ammo is so damn expensive. I will stick to my 15-22.

I have a Ruger 77/17 with bull barrel. One of my favorite rifles. Very flat shooter.
