Filing down a front sight?

Is filing a legit way to reduce front sight height? Any suggestions for restoring a hard matte black finish? (it has a "black oxide" finish at the moment).

This is for a set of Warren Tactical Sevigny sights on a G34. With the "point of aim/point of impact" taller-than-usual front sight post, I'm about an inch low at 10 yards, or so. Confirmed from the bench. I probably should have bought the .215" sight to begin with, instead of the supposedly POA/POI .245" sight they offer.

Hoping y'all have some insights.

Filing is a legit method, you just have to make sure to keep things level and square. Cold blue is about the easiest method to touch it up, it won't wear worth a darn but not much else you can do, other than install the lower sight.

Ya filing will work but you have to go slow and typically file then shoot, then file, then shoot. After about an hour and a box of ammo you get there. Then you get to reblack everything. Personally, I've found just buying the next size sight post easier.

Filing is the correct thing to do. As already said keep it level, I use a table top and put the file on the table, something slick under the rear sight like a piece of hard plastic and run the gun back and forth. Takes just a little bit of patience. Outers cold blue dabbed on with a paper towel and then later some oil will give you a mat finish.

filing is the right thing to do if the sights are either NOT replaceable or not adjustable, like on an old cold single action. way back when they came with tall front sights with the intent being for the sight to be filed down to suit a particular load.
if the sight is removable, why not just buy the right one?
