View Full Version : I never liked the FDE color, but....

Looks like maybe I will build something with the Magpul FDE plastic. I guess it's not as bad as I thought. I thought it was more of a "desert tan" but it really isn't. This will probably end up being a 16" with a mid-length gas system. Hopefully finding the MOE forearm for the mid-length gas system in FDE won't be too difficult.

I've seen the midlength fde handguards at Bower tactical, and at 5280. Shouldn't be hard at all.

I wasn't too impressed with the FDE either, then my distributor threw in the matching sock monkey with my SASS...

The sock monkey is a nice touch. Is he tactical? [ROFL1]

Never can have too many tactical sock monkeys..... just sayin'.

Ordered most of the rest of my parts to finish this. Forgot a couple of pieces though- mainly a flash hider and a gas tube. Hopefully if the parts make it here this week I can get it together and post a few pictures next weekend. Don't get too excited.... this is going to be a "keep it simple" build.

Well, everything showed up except the barrel... darn it. Barrel should get here Monday. I will post yet another picture once I get it all together.

Sorry for the blurry pic.

Not sure about the vertical grip on the forearm just yet. I will test it out with some live fire before I decide if it stays or goes. Just threw it together by hand for now to see how it looks. I will have to get everything torqued down proper this weekend.

Took off the vertical grip and removed the bulky sight. Looks much better (to me). Think I'll throw a Troy flip-up rear sight on it and maybe an Eotech.

It looks awesome Ray! I just ordered an Eotech myself, so Eotech on one AR and the Acog on the other. I am kickin around spraying one of my AR's FDE, turn it into my "beater"

Have you shot it yet? I am thinking of heading out to Pawnee Saturday if you wanna run that thing!!

I haven't even got the barrel and the flash hider torqued down yet. It is still just hand tight. Hopefully I will get it assembled for good tomorrow. I have plans to get it out next Thursday or Friday to sight it in and put a few rounds downrange. Now that the weather is getting nice my Saturdays are usually tied up with either yard work or motorcycle rides. I prefer to shoot during the week anyways since I usually have the range to myself. I do appreciate the offer though and one day I will take you up on it. Did you get to use that front sight tool yet?

Let me know if you want some company one day I have tons of vacation time I can take off during the week.

Yeah I "tried" to use the tool, but that front sight is stuck so hard that I actually bent the tool...I have had it soaking in penetrating oil all day and even tried using a C-Clamp in my vice and that SOB still wont budge...I dont know what the heck is with it

I think every AK I ever owned had the front sight stuck. Once you get it to move once it will probably be fine. If memory serves me I believe my favorite method of unsticking them involves a large hammer and a brass punch.... relieves a little frustration too. [Awesom]

I'll have to give the punch and hammer a try.

Thanks
