View Full Version : Places to shoot around Lone Tree
Hey i'm looking for an outdoor place to shoot. Somewhere were I can just go shoot myself and not worry about other people. I heard you could shoot in any national forest... Is that true? Is there anywhere within an hours drive of Lone Tree?
Thanks!!
Somewhere were I can just go shoot myself
Uh...phrasing...I hope.
I'm in that area, too. From what I've put together the "south site" is close but there will probably be people there. I've never been. I'm sure there are other people who can clarify the national forest part. I'm from the Los Angeles area and that kind of thing is unheard of so I'm hesitant to go try that without someone who knows what they're doing.
woops... Yeah... I'm looking for places where i can go shoot BY-myself or with friends... :)
Yeah back home I used to drive 30 min out of town and just go shoot where-ever I could find a place... I just don't know the rules here in CO...
Yeah, the south site is pretty much it, AFAIK, unless you want to join a club. The s/s is a drive, I don't consider it "close" but that's just me. lots of people go there.
Go to Colorado Springs, west to Woodland Park, then north out of WP on 67. Just past Rainbow Falls campground look for a dirt road on the left which has a sharp jog to the right, there's also a stop sign where the dirt road meets 67. I think this is near mile marker 99? Guys?
Anyway, there's several shooting areas back up that road a little ways, but watch out for ruts and washouts. Been awhile since I was there, but I wouldn't have called it "car friendly" back then. Good place for free shooting, but is also free access for the trash blasters and other idiots.
I live in Parker, and I joined Ben Lomond Gun Club, which is south off 86 out past Kiowa near Ramah. Great place for shooting, very affordable private membership, lots of separate ranges for pistols, rifles, rimfires, shotguns, and cowboy/black powder. In the middle of nowhere though.
It's just under an hour from my house, but it's far enough away to keep out the idiots and it's rarely busy. Camping, picnic tables, RV lot, porta johns, it's well worth it IMO. I just wish I could go more often. Also wish I knew of an RV I could borrow for an overnighter there! www.blgc.org (http://www.blgc.org)

National forests are OK to shoot in, not all but most state wide are. If you wanted a scenic little drive and shoot for hours to make it worth while go up 285 to Deckers. There are laws for shooting in a national forest.
Cant shoot the trees, bring targets (popcans, whatever) take out what you take in. Pick up your brass, and your trash and have fun! Oh and do not shoot 150 yards within a road, or house or camp site
