You shouldn't have a problem putting on AKM furniture on a 74.

Is that the gas system's are not all the same length, and the front end MIGHT not be short or long enough to go on your 74.

Contact Mike at Ironwood Designs in California, he's been making stocks for all the AK's for years now, he's the best out there - if I'm buying new furniture, it's from him. He always answers my questions.

You just have to KNOW the pedigree of your AK, again, different AKs have different front end lengths and tolerances.

ak47 furniture won't fit a 74 without modifications but AKM furniture will fit, i suggest finding later pattern hand guards where the lower has the spring clip in the front, the earlier stuff didn't have a spring clip. the gas system length difference make no difference to the hand guards but the 74 gas tube is a hair longer than the AKM and ak47 gas tubes.
