Safety Locks

Why is there such a negative opinion of guns equipped with safety locks such as with recent and current manufacture Smith & Wesson, Taurus, etc.? The new guns are manufactured with the best materials and techniques and shoot as good as if not better than older pre lock guns. I can't see that a firearm having a lock to prevent unauthorized use is a bad thing.

I know the self defense argument but it seems that most of us have more than one gun and I would suspect that many of us have a gun immediately available against intruders, unlocked and ready to go. So why the distaste for a gun with a lock?

I don't mind the lock on my taurus, I leave it unlocked full time...

JMO, but I feel the locks are unnecessary, definitely unsightly, and ineffective. There's much better ways to lock up a gun, and who wants a brand new Smith & Wesson revolver with a big hole in the sideplate? I sure as hell don't. If someone gets ahold of your handgun, do you really think that pissant little lock is going to keep them from making it work? It's just a feel-good thing contrived by lawyers.

Integrated locks and "billboards" do not belong on my hardware. Google away for all the opinions you want, the web is saturated with this topic.

There are some shooters that have had the trigger locks self engage while shooting. As in BANG, BANG, then the trigger won't move because it is locked. If you are going to use a gun for self defense that could be disheartening to try to shoot a bad guy and have it lock up on you.

Trigger locks disable guns. I don't see the point in turning my gun into a hammer. But others may see things differently.

Parts left out of a design cost nothing and cannot fail in a critical situation.
It is unfortunate that manufacturers have been forced to acknowledge the stupidity of a few.

I've heard of a few cases of locks engaging while firing. Each case involved a Scandium framed magnum revolver, and in a couple of those cases the lock broke and could not be unengaged with the key.

Il take safe action over a safe internal lock safety any day, My guns are either locked in the safe or where I want them in case I need them. I really see no point in having an internal lock other then the "feel good" aspect of them. They sure do not make me feel good after reading the above article, but I guess wanted to make some haters happy.
