I'm new to the forum and new to the sport of AR-15 ownership/shooting. I've purchased a Colt Match Target Competition HBAR II in .223. The factory issue trigger group has a "less than desirable" trigger pull, both in pull weight and in smoothness.

Was hoping to get some advise on the best after-market triggers for replacing the factory issue trigger group. Plan to use the rifle for non-competitive paper target shooting at ranges from 100 yds to 400 yds. Will scope the rifle but not planning to set the gun us as a close combat weapon. Was thinking of a trigger pull in the 3lb - 4lb range. Currently considering Jewel, Timney and Jard triggers. Would like to receive any feedback available on those brands as well as any other brands that might exceed their performance and pricing.

Keep your powder dry,

First off, welcome to the forum. Glad to have you here.

I dont have any personal experience with any of the listed triggers, but I'm sure you will get some feed back on them. I have heard great things about the Timney triggers though.

I have had Bill Springfield do all the triggers on my rifles, and for the money you can NOT go wrong. Clean crisp 3 or 4 lb trigger, with absolutely no creep. I have been happy with his work.

Jewell, Timney and Jard are all 1st rate components. The nice part about them is they are plug and play, minimal tuning.
If you don't want to chunk out that kind of cash the Rock River is a decent setup and J&P makes a nice trigger set but you may have to time the disconnector and trim the safety leg.
Stock triggers can be cleaned up as Spliefy noted, I do them regularly but you really have to be careful, they are only casehardened and you can cut through to soft steel easily.
Crisp breaking single stage is possible with stock stuff.
What is your intended use for the rifle? If you are looking at serious target/varmint work then the drop ins such as Jard, Giessel etc may be worth the money.
If it is going to be a SHTF/Zombie rifle then you can spend your money elsewhere more effectively.

BPT-

Thanks for the feedback. I'm somewhat leaning toward the Jard trigger at this point. Bad trigger pull = Bad scores, so my priority is function over $$s.

Thx again.
