Just got a message about this on Facebook about an anti-WBC protest

Good morning and Happy Easter, everyone!

There have been rumors floating that Westboro Baptist Church (the "God Hates Fags" and "Thank God for Dead Soldiers" church) will be returning to Colorado for another tour of protesting. As of now, it's looking like it's true. Here is the current schedule for their upcoming May 19th protests:

Ponderosa High School Graduation in Parker, CO
May 19, 2011 7:15 AM - 8:00 AM

University of Denver Hillel (Merage & Allon Hillel Center) in Denver, CO
May 19, 2011 9:15 AM - 9:45 AM

Denver Islamic Society in Denver, CO
May 19, 2011 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM

We would like to remind you that if you do counter-protest at any of the above locations, please remember the three key rules to safe counter-protesting: PEACE, ORGANIZATION, and FUN. ;)

- Kameron Martinez

Makes me wanna go in BDUs with an american flag to block them

If they go somewhere like that HS Graduation I'll join ya, but it seems like that Islamic Society thing is their most likely target and I'm sorta inclined to sit back and let that one happen.

Why the hell would you protest a HS graduation?

Yeah the high school thing aint right.

Even though I would die for the freedom we enjoy, there are abuses of those basic human rights that should not be tolerated.
They are very much like the anti gun crowd. They got their foot in the door and the bullshit will continue.
So I guess they need to be counter protested smartly.

I'll bring my lifted diesel truck and put a few flags on it.... should have a good effect as far as separating them from the people.

They thrive on attention. God seems none to fond of gay men,
Leviticus 20:13 - "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."

Let's leave the gay debate out of this thread IMO... not sure what your point is by putting that in here. I don't know anyone who is religious that follows the old testament all of the time, so I think quoting it is ridiculous. No offense meant if those are your beliefs...

Regardless of what your thoughts are about gays, what the WBC does is wrong...

I was wondering the same thing. I tried to go to their website to see if they posted why, but their site is down like usually; probably hacked again...

Them protesting a HS graduation makes perfect sense.

Their line is that the entire nation is corrupted because we tolerate homosexuality. Any public ceremony is fair game for them.

I've spent a lot of time in the middle east, Israel especially. I have no love for Islam, but I do respect their right to do their thing peacefully. I'd be inclined to get in the way of these Westboro dipsticks even if they are harassing Muslims.

Thus it does not matter where they do their thing. They want ONE thing and ONE thing only, television cameras to be there to give them a voice.

If we're going to concentrate our efforrts on anything, we need to get ahold of the major networks affiliates and get them to pledge NOT to have any camera crews near WBC. THAT would be effective. As it is by covering these events, the television stations are simply pandering to what WBC perceives itself to be - an oppressed "true believer" minority.

WBC is not open to anybody joining. They are composed of ONE family, lead by their "fearless leader". That the MSM even calls them a "church" is another misnomer, try to explain it to the MSM and they wont get it, they think that by styling them as a "church" that they're serving their leftist support by demonizing some christian cult. MSM loves to label ANYTHING kooky as being associated with christianity. They assiduously avoid labeling any Muslim practices, however, as anything other than "cultural differences". Remember, these are the people that couldn't manage a C in calculus, so they took the easy path in college.

They are quite secretive about their travel plans and locations, I think that if we all got out to all of the hotels in the Denver area with their names and descriptions (although that might be a monumental task) and got them to agree to not give them lodging, citing "safety" reasons, that might be effective too.

But to call them a church - uh uh - they're a cult. They spout bible verses like it was going out of style. They also love suing local governments, and they end up winning most of the time and they actually make a little money off of it. So anything that gets done, needs to be done by US, not our government lackeys.

BTW in the Old Testament, eating shellfish was an abomination as well. That was when people were judged under law, not Grace. Pharisees were big on the "Law".

WBC is a bunch of whack-jobs.

really the only way to beat these people is to completely ignore them and let them slip into obscurity. i mean think about it, they will cancel a protest if a radio or tv show agrees the put them on. so are they really trying to do what they say they are, or are they simply trying to get publicity? im going with the second one. it would be nice if we could get all news outlets to agree to completely shun them and not even mention them...ever. i bet theyd go away faster than youd think

That kinda makes me wonder...what if a "news" or "radio" station called and scheduled an "interview" during one of their protests...then just never aired it. That way they essentially wasted all their time...

and the same is said for premarital sex, "self-satisfaction" and a host of other things... to include judging others.

so, do you drop a boulder on yourself to follow the letter of the Bible or just let it be?

bingo. having been immersed in and around Christianity most of my life, I laugh at the way people think of the law.
Old testament law...bad.
new testament not under the law...good.

except tithing is not even mentioned in the new testament(look it up) yet its preached hard.
except homosexuality, thats still a sin. not keeping the Sabbath, well that doesnt really matter anymore. and the list goes on and on. pick and choose, pick and choose.

treat everyone with respect, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion and the world will be a better place.

and I didnt mean you had to like, agree with or condone anyone elses actions or choices. you make your choices. but, they are not your choices to make for the other person.
thats what we have to remember.

homosexuality or islam are not the right choices for me. but for you? not my choice, thats yours. we worry too much about everyone else and not enough about ourselves.

thats the key. there are a lot of things i don't agree with or condone due to my faith, but that doesn't change the person at all or their value. i have lots of problems as well that are just as wrong. a sin is a sin. there isnt one worse than another. to disrespect or devalue a person due to their perceived sinful nature is about as hypocritical as it gets.

This time doesn't make sense:

"Ponderosa High School Graduation in Parker, CO
May 19, 2011 7:15 AM - 8:00 AM"

Unless they are planning on being in an empty parking lot. High school seniors can be an unruly bunch and I cannot picture a graduation at that time. My wife's son had his graduation in the evening.

If they are actually there at that time I could make it before work. It would be fun to get some of those shrimp signs and try to look like one of them. My personal preference for welcoming WBC would involve hot tar & feathers but there are legalities. I'd settle for turning them into something to laugh at.

From what I gathered from the Douglas County school spokesman was, one of their students wrote a letter to the editor of the Denver Post awhile back, when the Supreme Court ruling came out involving the "church". That, apparently, is the reason they are going to protest that particular school. Because a student wrote a letter expressing his opinion.
