View Full Version : Internet Explorer 9 DOESN'T Work Here

I've been off the forum for several weeks because suddenly I was unable to post any more! I narrowed it down to the only thing being different was that I had upgraded my computer to IE9.
I finally found a computer still using IE8 to see if I could get in, and all is as it was...
I don't know how to uninstall IE9 from my computer, but unless the forum gets upgraded, I'll either have to borrow a computer like I am doing now, or move on.
The symptoms that I experienced are as follows: I could sign in and read the thread as normal, and when I tried to reply to a post, I would type my reply and hit the submit button. After hitting submit, it would erase all of my text and give me an error messege saying my post was too short and I need a minimum of 2 characters! Isn't that special [Mad]
Maybe the folks who run this forum are aware of this and are already working on it... I sure hope so.

Thanks Hoosier,
I found a way to uninstall IE9 and plan to keep it that way.
I will explore the idea of going to the others you mentioned... This old dog has a hard time changing [Bang]

This website works fine in IE9.
Posting this as we speak (not really speak) on Server 2008 R2 with security turned up. I just added to the trusted sites list.
People blame MS and IE for EVERYTHING.
OPERATOR ERROR>>>>>[Neene1]
I haven't used IE in over 10yrs. Recently, I was looking at a CC processor and they required IE to access their gateway. That was pretty much a deal breaker. Who writes a program to only work on IE? [Bang]
Been using PC/Mac versions of Firefox with no problems. Plus there are some great add-ons. No stability issues.

I had this problem too. Sorry I didn't post up about it. IE9 is just an upgrade for IE8. To go back to IE8 go to control panel, then uninstall a program, then on the upper left under tasks click on view installed updates, find microsoft internet explorer 9, click on it then click uninstall.
From what I've read, IE9 is a beta program and is full of bugs.

Try using the alternative version of the post editor.
But please, please, do not look to me to "fix the sites problem". It is NOT a site problem. If you use IE9 and sites don't work, do me a favor, call microsoft, and politely tell them to "fuck off". I'll put it in nuts and bolts terms for you. Everyone else makes either metric or standard bolts. These would be firefox, chrome, opera, etc. Microsoft makes triangular shaped nuts that are in-between metric or standard sizes, but somehow it's your sockets fault that you can't get the nut off [Rant2].
Sure, all the tool manufacturers could make all their sockets in triangle shapes in sizes like 9.666mm, 11.437mm, and you could get those Microsoft triangles off so you could swap hardware, but then it would be a pretty useless socket set.
Well, I've had exactly the same problem as FF. I quoted this post, and typed in my response, and the quote was all that got put up.
I've since switched back to IE8 as well, and it's working again (witness the way I can now edit this post).
You know, not all of us are computer geniuses. Not all of us are computer geeks or nerds, either. I, for one, spend my work day USING a computer but I no longer have any desire at all to know how the shit works behind the scenes; I'll leave THAT for you younger folks. But the most of the responses to the OP are not a lot of help. Largely, they're simply a swipe at MS (deservedly or not, I'm not going to judge), a defensive response, somebody with the "mine is better than yours" mentality, or blaming it on the operator (when many of us operators have no idea that it might be a simple security setting or, for that matter, how to turn the goddamn thing off).
How about a simple suggestion, such as "Uninstall the IE8 upgrade". Or, something like, "Google Chrome works for me". But most of the replies here were worthless. And it's one of the reasons I spend less time every day on the internet because I get tired of dealing with the "experts" out there who seem to expect everyone else to be an expert, too (unless, of course, somebody else's opinion is different from the said "expert").
Thank for the info. I just put on IE9 last week and it has been screwing up my posts and pm's all week.

Yes its more likely the program that cost millions to develop is broken; and not your $300 whitebox computer.[Neene1]

Folks, this subject has already been discussed in this thread: https://www.ar-15.co/threads/37717-IE9-problems (https://www.ar-15.co/threads/37717-IE9-problems?highlight=Compatibility)
In post #6 of that thread member alan0269 identified the fix - and still using IE9. Here's the post: http://www.ar-15.co/threads/37717-IE9-problems?p=336323&viewfull=1#post336323 (http://www.co-ar15.com/forums/showpost.php?p=336323&postcount=6)
I second foxtrot's comments. You can access the site. You upgrade to IE9. You can no longer access this site (or have major issues once you do get here). Hmm. I'm no genius, but standard Sherlock Holmes deduction tells me the problem is not the site but IE9.
Who writes a program to only work on IE?
Idiots.
I shouldn't need to point this out.
From what I've read, most things from Micro$oft are beta programs and are full of bugs.
Fixed.
Microsoft's Motto: It'll compile...ship it!
Idiots.
I shouldn't need to point this out.
It was a rhetorical question. DUH!

Foxtrot,
Please don't tell me what I know or don't know, I am an IT professional and have 10 years experience with IT infrastructure and Microsoft products.
This thread was about whether co-ar15.com worked in IE9 and it does.[Beer]
Your opinions are valid but your editorial on me is unwelcome and unnecessary.

"as a former IT professional"
Well, I never was an IT professionasl, I was a programmer. How long ago? Think assembler for 8088intel... CTOS and BCL and the first pascal compilers.
ALL programs are "buggy" some less so that others, some need experienced users to avoid all kinds of problems.
You write for the middle, the middle of the desires of the architects, the middle of the road of the internet and the middle of the road for users.
something ALWAYS breaks.
Microsoft isn't "guilty" neither is it "innocent" what they are is IN BUSINESS and as such they need to sell things, most notably - UPGRADES, especially to their bread and butter, government and business users - so in a particular "upgrade" they get improve functionality of one sort or another.
No answer in "IT" is absolute, it's all relative. which processor you used, which layer is accessed, which function library, etc... literally AD NAUSEUM..
Then someone with the time, figures out a workaround or a "solution" to a "problem" - all is well in Denmark.
But this argument about "IT professionals" vs "Users" has been going on since someone moved a couple of upgraded beads on a "new improved" abacus and some old guy whined because the beads used to be made out of left-handed ivory, not right handed tusk ivory...
Computers and the tech that goes with them is such an utterly INFANT industry, that they haven't learned the lessons that other "engineering" professions have, oh, they're working on it - but they don't have the corporate memory of, say, architects - there's a huge amount of growth that the population of "IT professionals" has to do, and it's hard, the way bricks were made didn't change on average of 18 months, a balance or ruler have always been constant - they worked, "new" computer tools are constantly being invented, abandoned and reinvented.
how many people remember what really made Apple Computer take off? 5 bucks to the person that guesses the software that let them penetrate the business world.
fun to watch though...
I recently bought a new computer, had the same OLD one for 7 years with a few upgrades here and there - I always recommend that as long as people are happy with their computer that they don't install any new thing, upgrade anything or "believe" any hype about how something is going to make something faster...
Happy is happy.

No guesses?
Google must be burning up by now...
Of course, the answer is somewhere in Googleville - it's perhaps the one other thing that I attribute to the internet...
Intellectual laziness - with so much information available at the click of a GOOGLE search, even the stupidest creature can seem to have a vast store of knowledge...
OK, I'll up it to 1 5 round box of Federal tactical slugs...
1979 VisiCalc spreadsheet
And ya ... I was born in 1983... Still remember learning to use this when I was like 5 to track my baseball card collection...
I had the same problem. Downloaded IE9 and everything fell apart. I couldn't send PMs on this site either--they would turn out blank. Finally uninstalled and went back to IE8 and everything went back to just fine.

If you are having problems with Internet Explorer 9, try to go to your settings and reset them to their default values.
This is done by going to "tools" then "options" then "advanced"
There you will see "Reset Internet Explorer settings" with a button that reads "Reset".
Press the button and see if it resolves your issue. The issues people are having are related to new or changed security settings within IE9. IE9 is perfectly compatible with this website, only specific security settings may be interfering. This is also a good procedure as some "new" default security setting may increase your browser security overall.
Additionally you can add this site "co-ar15.com" to your trusted sites list, this will allow any content to bypass specific security settings. It should only be used on sites that are safe and preferably SSL secured (ie: https://) (https://%29) prefix.

Ohhhhhhhh that's why I cant post or send PM's on my wifes laptop!
Guys
I was having the same problem--I couldn't post
There's a little blue box with a squiggly line thru it up at the top where the address thing is. It's left of the refresh button.
That is called a compatability button. I clicked on that and all is working fine now.
I don't know much about computers and I wish I hadn't downloaded IE9 but I'm afaid I'll screw things up if I try to get rid of it.
That compatability button seems to work fine so far though. I wouldn't have been able to post this if it didn't

I upgraded the wife's PC to IE9 and I noticed today that I could not post to the site when using IE9. I can at a title to a post or PM , but the message box is grayed out. I can type in the message box, but when I push submit no text registers with the site and I get an error. I'm writing this on my PC with IE7 and it works fine. Has anyone else had a problem?

And you can drive a truck through all those security holes! Its almost an 11 year old OS. Most people don't have an 11 year old car! Same people that love Windows '98 and hated XP are now complaining about the "new" OS...

So in other words... you're just backing the article right?.
I mean if IE/XP users are dumber than average, and logically "average" would be 50%....
