View Full Version : F*cking Theives
My wife's co-worker stole her wallet out of her purse that was in her desk yesterday. Found out that my wife paid for someone's shopping spree at walmart while I paid for grocerys at two different places as well as paying gas for three different vehicles! Gotta love these bastards. Now I'm heading to Jeffco with my wife to report her stolen CCW. FML
That sucks. At least the cc company will cover it. Hopefully the bastage gets caught and loses his/her job

Is there a large pool of people to find a suspect from, at her work? Or a narrow few? Might help with the search. Also anyone who shows up with new stuff. Can Jeffco do anything about tracking video surveillance at those areas and get a description of the person?
Had the same thing happen some years ago to my wife at the place both of us worked at--and at a secured government facility no less! It happened in a part of the building where only employees could access...and everyone of them had gone through a federal screening before hiring. It can happen anywhere and anytime. The only absolute prevention is to be sure that purse and valuables are secured.

Yep being my own PI today

Small group to choose from. I've had all cards blocked but seems like the cards were handed out to several people as purchases were being made all over the grid. Also, her work CC were used. I'm going to walmart and gas stations to talk with managers about video survailence.
Sorry to hear this man, same thing happened to me. Hate to say it, but don't expect the police to give a flying shit about it, they don't care. "We don't have the resources" is all they'd do for me, and I know exactly who did it. "Can you prove it? Do you have video? Sorry, we can't help you".

Use the work CC charges to your advantage. Can you get with her superiors and work with them on this?
The fact of a corporate card involved adds a dimension that may work in your favor.

Good job about being your own PI. Cops just don't do the same job as you, mainly because it wasn't their stuff stolen.
Keep us updated, hope the bastards get caught.

This is exactly why I'm doing my own investigation today. I'm sitting at the bank right now getting detailed info on all these transactions and where they were made so I can talk to the managers at these places.

It's dependent upon which agency you are dealing with. Some believe they are too busy for that type of crime. Some do not. My former Metro area agency wasn't too busy and we took that type of crime seriously and tracked down the videos, tracked down suspects and made arrests. A L.E. buddy of mine from that agency was at the Colorado Springs zoo and a suspect stole his wife's wallet out of her purse on the child stroller and went on a spending spree. Colorado Springs PD was too busy to assist and told them to file a desk report, report it to their credit cards and the credit card companies would take care of it, reimburse, etc. While that may be eventually true, he wanted retribution and someone arrested!

I you're offended by this, well sorry.
I should've been more clear on why he won't help. The boss treats my wife like shit and he's a terrible person. The illegal comment was meant that he'll protect them over her and that I was/am pissed about that.

Don't apologize to him, he has a track record of being and advocate for Illegals.
If the owner condones a "hostile work environment", and you can prove it using the evidence in this case, maybe she should sue him?
I hope you catch the thief and help put him/her in a sh!tty prison somewhere.
If he really protects illegals, he is in a different playing field and will be of no use to you. I hope the catch whoever took your guys things and cut off their dominate hand... But, they won't. They might get a slap on the hand in reality...

Unless things have changed since I retired, the credit card company will cover the fraudulent charges and then they become the victim not you. In most cases they will just write off the losses and not prosecute rather than go through the hassle and inconvenience.

I doubt they'll expent the man-hours or $$ to do that. Unlike television, real life police dept's are so buried with crimes that things like this or BMV (burglary of a motor vehicle), vandalism, etc. just don't get pursued. I love watching on TV how they always seem to dust for fingerprints - almost never happens in real life any more.
If he really protects illegals, he is in a different playing field and will be of no use to you.
Heck, he might've been the guy filling up his gas tanks with one of them. What kind of business is this? I'm guessing it isn't a restaurant or a construction site.
Just to update:
Got my wife a new CCW permit and Jeffco was great and waived the $15 fee since both our accounts are frozen. Filed a police report with Wheat Ridge which was surprisingly great. The lady who took it seemed to care and actually chased us down when we left to ask a few more questions!! Also, went to the gas station where the first transaction took place but no video survailence, the thief probably has done this before and gone there for a reason. Atleast we have a timeline and next is walmart where I'll speak to the manager/s there. Wish me luck guys[Luck]

Walmart won't release any videos to you unless it's requested by govt authority for liability reason. Even then, sometimes Walmart will fight releasing them. FYI
Good luck!

I'm not to worried about the funds as I know they'll be returned to our accounts. I took the day off work so I'm going to make it worth my time to try as hard as I can to catch the bastard.
It's amazing I'm back at the bank and they have bought over $400 in gas and more than that in food and about $170 in car parts. I don't have exact addresses but I do have the name and area of the places.

Yes I spoke with WRPD about this and I can request a copy to be sent to them and to call them if need be when requesting it.

My incident happened in Denver, so the DPD own the case. I talked to the detective assigned to it, and he just acted annoyed, wouldn't even discuss it. The bank covered my losses immediately, no money lost on my part, so his take was it was between the DPD and US Bank now, if the bank wanted to pursue it, which of course they didn't.
I filed a complaint with some "overseer" or whatever it's called with the Mayor's office, and I then got a call from some supervisor with the DPD. He was nice and sympathetic, etc., but basically explained they don't have the money or manpower to chase little things like this, they can't keep up with the major ones.
Really chaps my ass too, the dick sits right on the other side of the cubicle wall from me, and overheard me ordering some parts on the phone with my CC. This guy's main interests in life is chasing pussy, and keeping his money in his pocket. He feels sex is "an equal exchange of services", and that it shouldn't cost him any money to get laid. "She's getting as good or better than what he's getting". He also likes to drink wine.
The attempted charges were with....
wine.com for a large wine order,
flowers.com for a large flower order,
moretolove.com which is a dating service to find beefy women (which he prefers, they're easy to bag),
skype.com to set up video conferencing accounts,
and cuddleworks.com which sells teddy bears and lingerie, gifts for women.
So I'm certain it was him. He also acted strange around me for months afterwards after the purchases were all shot down, like he was expecting trouble or impending doom, or a visit from the po-po.
The only people in the office when I bought my parts were me and him, and although the cube wall separates us visibly, we can hear each other fart. Overhearing and copying down my CC info wouldn't be hard. He also thinks I'm some kind of "rich old white guy" that should "help a brotha out" by showering him with "loans".
I contacted all the vendors, and they all refused to release anything to me without a request from the DPD on department letterhead, which of course the DPD just laughed at.
So, good luck to ya Opie!
brick thru their window should even things out.

Yup Rondog, I understand and feel ya completely.
Unfortunately, you suffered no loss as the bank "made you whole". The D.A.'s office would not consider you a victim anymore and the victim is now the bank, which didn't want to pursue any charges.
So, your co-worker gets off scot free because the bank doesn't want to pursue charges. They will just add it to the cost of doing business, charge all of us more for their services to cover that cost of doing business and the world continues to revolve. Kind of unfair, isn't it?
Then and now, I cannot get a bank to be a victim of a crime. I've only seen some limited success with banks wanting to be a victim and it generally revolved around large, unsecured loans or risky loans on investment property.
I've done a couple of mortgage fraud type cases and we've generally have to go after the suspect not for defrauding the bank, but for filing fraudulent papers, as the bank doesn't want to get involved and will suffer the loss. Go figure.

Well, he knew that I got a little inheritance money after my parents passed away, but no clue about the details. All he knew was that I came into something and he thought I should be sharing with his dumb ass so he could chase pussy without spending HIS money. He'd make these "joking" little comments about "front me some bread, man", or "yo man, write me one o' them big ol' checks, he'p a brotha out". But after the incident, he's never made another peep about that.
I truly believe he saw an opening to try and help himself to what he thought he "deserved a piece of" and went for it, trying to spend money right out of my account. But the purchases failed, thank God the bank caught the odd charges and called me about them. I can't say it "backfired" on him because he's unscathed, but the free ride certainly ran out of gas on him and he had to walk home. I can only hope the woman that he was trying to bone tossed him on his ass because the gifts he promised never arrived.
Really burns my ass to look at him every day and listen to him smooth talking innocent, lonely, fat women on the phone, but the reality is that I CAN'T accuse him of anything without any proof, it would backfire on me and HR would own my ass. And I can't get any proof because the vendors refuse, and the DPD refuses, and the bank's not interested. I did tell my manager about it, the very next morning. He's concerned too, but our hands are tied. No way to prove shit, and it didn't really cost me anything, best to just let it go. What am I supposed to do, cap his ass in a dark parking lot?
There's right, there's wrong, and there's reality. Guess which one wins. I fucking HATE criminals.

do something to get him back.
seriously.
make him pay.
Does he also steal food etc out of the fridge at work?
If so dose something up with laxatives! Did that once with a bottle of ketchup as there was one person always stealing stuff. It stopped after that.
Won't get your money back but you'll get a laugh at all his bathroom visits!
How's about hiding something that stinks in his cube?
I had a manager tell HR that I threatened her because IT found that I was browsing Silencertalk and arfcom at work. Actually, I don't know exactly what she told HR, but I was put on paid leave for a month while an "investigation" was done, then forced to resign in lieu of termination. I was called in to HR on a Friday at about 10:30am. I was out of the building by 11:30 (escorted by Denver PD). They told me that I couldn't tell anyone I knew anything about what was going on. Not my parents, not my fiance that I lived and worked with, not my other roommates, etc. I told them that was fine, but they should know that my manager was going to tell everyone that she knew. They said that they were aware of her "history."
So Monday morning, there is a crowd of people waiting at my fiance's desk when she arrives. Everyone immediately starts saying things like, "I heard Irving was going to blow up the building!" "Did he really threaten Bitch Manager?" "I heard he keyed her car!"
I should have lawyered up immediately.
I recently applied for a job, and one of her little trolls now works at the place where I applied. He told them I got fired for something about guns. Kind of funny, since he didn't even work there when that happened. Hadn't for years in fact. Why? Because he misappropriated company funds. He allegedly used company CC to pay for a golf game during a training thing out of town. That's what I heard, what everyone heard, but since it's none of my business, and I wasn't directly involved, I'd never EVER tell another company about it. None of their damn business. Who knows how he knows what he thinks he knows, but I sure as hell didn't start any rumors about blowing up a building, and never made a threat to anyone. In fact, I spoke to my manager as little as possible because I disliked her so much.
Now, I can't sit here and tell you that I was the best employee, because I wasn't. I was smart, but I had a huge focus problem and would browse on the internet, or walk around and talk to people instead of working. My numbers were inconsistent, I just generally didn't do what I should have been doing. But I did NOT eve threaten anyone or anything close.
Why am I ranting all this?
1) Could be worse, at least Ron got to keep his job.
2) Colorado is not a right to work state, his manager doesn't need a legit reason to let someone go. Hell, he doesn't even have to lie about it. If he is really worried about Ron's scum co-worker, should be easy enough to get rid of him.

That's the truth. I knew who broke into my house, told the cop. The asshole left his finger prints on the window, and still the cops didn't get him.
His girlfriend, (My womans best friend at the time) called me a couple years later to tell me yes he did it, they still had my stuff. Would I press charges against him because they are splitting up and she wanted a better shot at custody.
End of the story, karma got them both. He killed himself a couple years later, and she stroked out at the age of 30 because of her prescription drug problem. She's useless now and has no quality of life.

Not much. WRPD seemed like they wanted to work with us at first but nothing since it went to the detective, I know they're busy...right[Dunno]. My wife and I spent all day yesterday following the transactions and this thief/s must be a seasoned vet as almost every place they went had no video. The places that did I need WRPD to get a court sipena(sp?). We did get transaction info from our bank that gives us detail on when, what and exact register this person used at walmart but again I can't get a looky at the tapes. Also, went to Advanced Auto Parts on 72nd and Federal where $180 was spent but no video...the lady there did remember the transaction and said the person was a female with my wifes name but not my wifes picture in an ID. So I'm thinking our cards were stolen from my wifes place of work then sold to their friends because transactions were made all over the place. I do know that the auto part bought was for a '95 Jetta and the female was fat with bad teeth. Anyway, seems like it's in WRPD hands...
My wife feels defeated and most likely leaving her job as no one there seems to care and this was pretty much the last straw.
Damn brotha, man I am so sorry this is happening. The old saying is true "bad things happen to good people"
Hey, if there is anything I can do to help, let me know
Hang in there, and I hope the wife is ok.

So I'm thinking our cards were stolen from my wifes place of work then sold to their friends because transactions were made all over the place. I do know that the auto part bought was for a '95 Jetta and the female was fat with bad teeth. Anyway, seems like it's in WRPD hands...
My wife feels defeated and most likely leaving her job as no one there seems to care and this was pretty much the last straw.
the police department is about results. arrests and convictions make them look good and gets them budget increases, so that's what they focus all their effort on.
if there is little chance of a conviction, or if the conviction will take too much effort, they give up. it doesn't matter how much injustice and crime happens or how much the people suffer for it.

Well the WRPD has a list of places where transactions were made plus exact register number at walmart. So really there's is no effort except for the court sipena and drive there to look at the video tape.

It takes more than "a court subpoena (proper spelling)". To get that subpoena or actually, a search warrant, the detective has to WRITE that search warrant, then it has to get reviewed by the D.A.'s office, and after approval, then go to the judge for review and signature, if the judge approves it. In the larger counties in the Metro area, that process is a week, at least.
With warrant in hand, the Detective then can obtain the videos, bank records, financial transaction records, etc. Once compiled, the Detective can then attempt to determine through them, if he can identify suspects. We don't have the CSI crap seen on TV. We can't enhance video and increase pixels that aren't there. We don't have facial recognition.
What you suspect is one of the your wife's co-workers, but what can be proven? Not a hell of a lot right now. With video, what do you have? A picture of the suspect. Not like they are going to hold up their ID to the camera. Might be able to follow them on camera out to the parking lot and see what type of vehicle they get in and possibly get a partial plate number. A good ID of the vehicle might result in a list of those vehicles in Colorado. Might be able to cross reference owners with DL pictures, might not.
Once a suspect is identified, then an affidavit needs to be drafted. The argument of why this person committed this crime. The D.A.'s office is again involved and they can make the decision on whether or not they are going to file a case or not, whether the case will have an arrest warrant drafted or if a felony summons will be issued. Or, they may "no file" the case, which means they do not believe they have a good chance of conviction and are passing on prosecution.
And guess what? The Detective may have a dozen or so similar cases on his desk and your case isn't the only one he is working. They take time. It isn't TV, where they find and arrest the suspect in an hour.
The statute of limitation on this type of crime is 3 YEARS. The Detective has 3 years to file a case with the D.A.'s office. Sometimes, it takes that long.
So Elhuero and his constant anti-cop bullsh*t gets tiring. Yep, you got us Elhuero. We are all lazy assed cops pulling a paycheck and not wanting to do any damn work. Right.

Dangit, I was REALLY busy at work.
Did I miss the Cop Bashing Thread?
[ROFL1] (I Kid)
so wait... wait a Minute, what you are saying is that you cannot just pick up the phone and call the judge and he faxes you a warrant? Maybe emails it to your blackberry?
I Do sympathize with Opie and Wife, the whole thing sucks.
but...
I dont think throwing stones will solve anything. Cops do what they can in a system that is so broken some judges cannot even navigate it.
Blaming Cops for the inability to prosecute crime is like blaming the guy at the McDonald's drive-thru for Obesity.
Just don't make sense.
now I am all for the "Bash the butt-head" not doing his job because he is too busy generating revenue. But yeah, Believe it or not, Gil Grissom wont show up with a CSI team to investigate who stole your car stereo.

First off...thanks for being my spelling NAZI. I'm sure you'll get me on proper grammar as well!
Second, that sure sounds like a lot of work just to get to the point of, "meh this case isn't worth pressing charges but I'm sure glad we wasted enough tax payers dollars to reach this conclusion".
Finally, this isn't TV?....NO SHIT[Bang]. I know detectives are busy so thats why I did my own leg work for them and in no way was my statement you quoted, anti-cop. So please do me a favor and get off your high horse. I do respect authorities and all LE people so please stop feeling like you're being "ganged" up on.

Not sure how to take this. All transactions were up north in Westminster and mostly Thornton.

Well, my bad. Missed where the transactions were.
Okay. I thought you were just joking about helping me with "leg work".
BTW I just got off the phone with one of several King Soopers where my card was used and I was told I didn't need a court subpoena, I copy and pasted since I can't spell[Tooth], to view the tapes but just need LE there. So that should cut some time off having to go thru the DA and whatever. So Monday I'll call the detective and go from there.
Oh and I pretty much have a timeline and route of where all transactions took place.

Anything you perceived anti-cop wasn't directed at you Opie. Sorry you took it that way. I'm not on a high horse; I'm explaining the reality of how this is going to go. As for being ganged up on...please.
I don't think I can be accused of being a spelling or grammar nazi. I corrected one word.
I'm not sure how you interpreted my explanation for why an investigation takes time and doesn't happen immediately like many here seem to think it should for it being a waste of taxpayer money to investigate and prosecute. If I was the assigned investigator, I would be very appreciative of all the legwork you've done so far.
Most businesses are willing to help law enforcement without the need for a subpoena or search warrant, but there are a few holdouts. Walmart is very law enforcement friendly and will give a lot of support to us. They have great video in most of the stores.
Good luck Opie. I won't bother to provide any additional information on your thread.

Points taken! I'm sure any investigation is lengthy and I'm sure there's thousands of cases a month do deal with. This has just been one of the worst weeks I've ever had and when these scumbags clean me out I'm a little touchy. I appreciate your time to explain how things work, although at this moment it seems like a crazy process.
Awsome the fuckers are writing bad checks in our names!! Well they've spent several thousands and yet Wheat Ridge PD still won't do shit!!! Not bashing, since people get a little upset, just funny how we heard from the detective once on this whole case and that was to tell us they were going on vacation.[Bang]

I sure hope you are able to get this cleared up soon.
