If I understood the news today the state or feds are going to pay $18,000,000 to reduce the elk herds in RMN Park. If the gov has that kind of money to throw around lets have some of it back.
What is wrong with these poeple? Why not have a deprivation hunt and the state could actually make money. They want to decrease the herd by 1000. 1000 x $50 = $50,000 plus all the revenue from taxes and such. So what if it is a park, man made the laws and caused the problems so waive the no hunting until the herds are in check. The numbers would be checked, the elk dispersed. So what if some bunny hugging boulderites wet their beds and go crying into the night. So unless the gov has a huge surlpus of money quit wasting it.
Yeah ticks me off too, working for the US Fish and Wildlife Service, we ain't got shit for money to do just what the Department of Interior says we have to do, so yeah, stop wasting the money and let the hunters get er' done.

I'm with you guys. If the herds have to get "reduced" that means killing the animals right?
So what's the diff to anybody between some contractor doing it or licensed hunters?

For the sake of not getting my self in trouble I won't comment about the obvious things all of you have pointed out already.
Edit to add: the day the Gov makes sense please let me know.

The difference?
Probably the number of "fact finding" trips the contractors take the politicians on vs. the politicians having to sign up for a tag like an ordinary plebe.
Also the amount of elk meat winding up in politician's freezers vs. the freezers of taxpayers.

$18,000,000 / 1000 Elk = $18,000 per dead Elk!!!
Something is rotten in Denmark

I'll gladly let them pay me $18,000 for every elk I kill.
I'd like to see the reintroduction of wolves to thin the herd.
...but they probably won't eat politicians since it's akin to cannibalism.

Has the brain-zombie-disease made it into the park's population yet?
Not into the park perse' ... just into the people managing it

That's a very ungentlemanly comment.
I've never heard of any wolf that lied about what it was, what it had done or what it would do in the future.
I tend to think politicians are more like a Judas goat, used to lead sheep to slaughter.

That's a statement I can get behind. And, considering that wolves, like our own domestic canines greet one another by sniffing each other's posteriors it gives a fairly accurate representation of where politicians rate!
one of the park spokesmen said hunting was not considered because it is illegal in the National Park
So evidently paying big $$ for guys with nite-vision equipped and supressed rifles to kill the elk after dark is not "hunting"
The "best part" is they spent two years talking about this
Wonder what that cost??????????

Probably close to 18,000,000 talking about, 18,000,000 to do it and who knows how much to investigate it when "accounting errors" are found.
What ever happened to the group that takes the disabled out to the parks and help thin the herds?

Here is the deal guys one of my customers is a national park ranger. He is currently in charge of the eco systems and travels all over the country to all the parks.
He said that there are only two parks in the country that allow hunting and Rocky Mountain is not one of them. The only way to change that is to contact your elected officials in congress and get them to add an amendment allowing it.
I am writing letters to Tancredo, Allard and Salzar to see if I can get something done I suggest the rest of you do the same.

Tancredo, and Allard might listen, but Salazar's head is too far up something to understand the common sense of changing the designation to actually make money by thinning the herd. Now if you want to contact him about ideas to take more tax money from us to give to illegals for prenatel care, then he's your man.
Oops, sorry about the tangent.
