I enjoy zombie movies as much as the rest of us, but one thing really bugs the crap out of me.
The fact that I can only think of 1 movie that had the characters using an AR15 or in the case was actually an M4 in 28 Days Later.
Why did they leave out the AR15 when its populariy is so high and desire for them is great and the capacity is awesome? Even an AK47 would be nice to see instead of double barrel shottys and hunting rifles and lever actions.

Cause these movies are made in Hollywood, where only crazy people have automatic high-capacity deadly military assault guns like the AR15 and AK47. Normal people don't have these evil things in their homes.

I'm a zombie movie afficionado, and I can remember at least six movies that had AR's in them.

Yep, that's what I wonder also. Hell, even the nearest Cabella's would be better than one of the other two options.

I always wonder why they don't get armored vehicles. I would get a Bradley or Stryker. They have firepower & protection. Mk19 would be nice also. I would have an M4. Really I would clean out Ft.Carson.

Now I am really wishing for a Zombie attack!

Ft. Carson is where I'm headed when the foot draggers show up. I've never even been on base, can civvies take tours? Is there an open house day? Maybe when my aunt and uncle come to visit I'll take them up to the PX, they like to shop in different ones.

I love zombie movies also Zombie land had a great intro with metallica in the backround. Guy shooting an ak in slow motion great shot. We are not the norm in this liberal society. But if an disaster or biological mutation happened boy would we be laughing our asses off watching the liberals running UNARMED down the street.

I'm a little curious on the lack of using mil vehicles as well..

In 'The Walking Dead' he's trapped in a tank surrounded by zombies.. I'd figure out how to drive the damn thing! Pretty sure they didn't take the keys when they were zombified..

Speaking of which.. when is that show coming back on.. I miss it.

They were zombies. Zombies have extremely low mental capacity. Vampires sate usually more capable and show more of a value for their own life. They were definitely more like zombies in legend. The only thing that made them vampire like was that uv rays burned them as part of the disease.

not true. a huge part of the movie was will smith realizing they were smart and valued their friends/significant others. for example, the one hurt himself trying to save the female one. it took them a while but they were developing socially. which if you read the book is closer to how the book was. in the book they became the higher life forms.

as far as zombies go, if you are in the military you should always survive. why will smith, with his rank and importance chemically, didn't grab some form of an apc is beyond me. screw hiding. park that thing in your front yard and sleep in it at night. plenty of room for a cot, food, etc. then work in your house during the day. absolute worst case scenario, get a boat and park it a little ways off the coast with a small raft to drive back and forth during the day.

it would be awesome to own a cadillac gage v100 or something. thing moves at 60 mph, armored, decent room, several shooting platforms, easy to drive, engine can be fixed with typical engine parts, etc. would be useful for all kinds of disasters/anarchy.

I still say they were zombies. Not often do you see vampire movies where they are in massive groups and work together as a whole. I never read the book just saw the movie and I will say they were more advanced zombies than the ones on zombieland. But I also consider liberals pretty much like zombies.

im not saying they are or are not zombies. im simply saying they were more intelligent and social than your typical run of the mill zombies.

I was talking with TDYRanger about the Walking Dead (great show!). Never understood why, in the next to last and last show, they walked into a military base with dead zombies, soldiers and -one would think- M4s etc laying all about, and never even looked to pick one up or grab ammo.

They show M16A4 for "Survival of the Dead" and the 1978 "Dawn of the Dead"

"Land of the Dead" has several variations
http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Land_of_the_Dead

List of M16 variations:
http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/M16_rifle_series#_M16A4_Rifle

Maybe they don't show them that much because, as we all know, it is an inferior weapon? [Tooth]

The HK G36:

Dawn of the Dead, Shaun of the Dead, Resident Evil

The more I learn about weapons the more I realize how full of shit movies are. I mean you can suspend belief and all, great we have space travel, time travel, the revolver with 43 rounds, hero's with 50 mag's hidden in their skimpy outfits.... yet a .50 won't put a mark on a car door and bounces off windshields.
Was watching the Lethal Weapon series a couple months ago, Mel's character is laying down cover fire over the hood of a car, full auto, shooting into a crowd of cars/civilians but he doesn't hit one of them. However, every time the bad guy fires an innocent bystander is killed... they can't even keep the right gun in his hand. One scene its a Beretta but up close it's something else.

and to further high jack your thread....

I used to like Dolph Ludgreen, great "B" movies. Not anymore. Or maybe I wasn't drunk enough. They use the exact same footage in two movies. He walks up to a stealth fighter plane, kills all the techs, a team blows up the hanger door and he flies off. Exact same footage.
"Agent Red" and "Storm catcher".
People shooting suppressed weapons, sometimes there's muzzle flash, sometimes there's not. One great scene though... bad guys jump into a room in slow motion... the suppressors are wobbling... [ROFL1] They can't even afford to get decent rubber copies!

What kind of mileage do they get? It's not like they are going to be able to pull into any gas station and top off right out of the pump. Gas would be harder to find and harder to get out of wherever it is and into your vehicle. With no fuel all you have is a small bunker.

I am legend is a vampire story. I have read the book and seen the movie. The movie does a very bad job of explaining what they are. The book makes it very clear though.

Spoiler alert

The title "I am legend" comes from the fact that he was the only human left and he was going around killing vamps at night by putting wooden stakes through their hearts. Similar to how humans tell stories of the evil vampire sucking their blood. Now humans were not the norm and thus he is their legendary character. Its a good quick read and if anyone wants it I will give it to you.

i wouldn't say ALL YOU HAVE is a small bunker. id say, you have a small bunker. thats the whole point. its not so much to cruise around with armor and blast zombies in drive by's. its more because of its multiple use potential. its true they often get gallons per mile, but you can usually stock up on gas and store it in/outside of the vehicle. most apc's and armored vehicles have places for fuel externally and internally. you could fill up enough to get out of dodge, and after that you would have to do raids to get the fuel. but either way, at the very worst you are safe. as long as you threw some food and water in there, you could last a while. if zombies were like they were in the movies, you could wait them out and do lots of other things to get around them. they won't congregate outside your vehicle and surround it for weeks on end. but for all we know, real zombies would be flying f-22's and have organized government.

Here is something I've noticed in zombie movies and in zombie video games as well.

Why don't/shouldn't zombies freeze in sub 32f weather?

Through my little impromptu google search. Body heat is mostly generated by the liver as it is the facilitator of many chemical reactions. Classical zombies, being dead, would not have these reactions in the normal sense. Thus, I would think they would freeze solid......

In the I am legend cases, If I remember the movie right, they ran hot. No issue there.

Maybe I'm alone here but I find zombie movies to be incredibly boring and tedious (with the exception of the comedies like Shawn of the Dead and Zombieland, but that's 'cause they're generally making fun of zombie movies).

I guess the fact that George Romero's movies are a Marxist Critique (ala the Frankfurt School (http://www.marxists.org/subject/frankfurt-school/index.htm)) of American society doesn't help ... propaganda masquerading as entertainment just annoys me.

As for I Am Legend ... the book was CLEARLY about vampires, but they went and zombified the vampires for the Will Smith movie. Making them mindless brutes and eliminating the character of Ruth pretty much ruined it too.

Huh?

They're "evolving" and "devloping social structure" and somebody thinks that parking a boat offshore or an APC to sleep in would work?

Which is it, they're stupid like zombies and wouldnt' figure it out, or they're smart like vampires and would..

can't have both! Unless you add werewolves or something

They are a military diesel so they have ability to be converted to other fuel sources.

An APC would be just a form of transportation to get supplies, info and link up with others. The weight of these would prevent large crowds of zombies from effecting mobility. Hell you could drive over thousands of zombies with no problem. If you have friends and can mobilize several APC's and escort tankers, you can move through an area like Denver without a problem picking up fuel and supplies. In Denver you would have access to tens of thousands of gallons of fuel, you just need to provide security to get the fuel and transport it to a safe location. But APC's are very good for this kind of work.

If you could build a safe zone with others you could position them just like you would a Infantry Company in a circle facing out destroying anything that comes in sight. They are better then tanks since then main gun is much better at destroying large amounts of human targets and you can sleep safely inside.

in i am legend he isn't trying to survive forever. he is looking for a cure. you don't need to survive them forever. they also were developing very slowly. a boat would buy you a lot of time. besides, they didn't even know where his house was, they would never be able to figure out where his boat is. apc is even better. so what if they have some evolution and social structure. they still can't get into an apc until they start using power tools. if you've seen the movie, they were FAR from that. even if they DID use power tools, it would be difficult to do. apc is by far the best option.

I also think in the Walking Dead they are trying to keep it as close to the comic as possible, hence the main character's wheel gun when everyone else has Glocks. And the main character still wearing his uniform.

Possibly more spoiler to the book:

I can't remember the name of the actual book and only read the "cliff notes" basically. But, didn't they end up capturing the legendary character and they were talking to him and he realizes that he is the monster?

I sort of read the cliff notes version when "I Am Legend" came out. Very philosophical. I think I like the movie ending better, personally. But like most movies, there is never enough detail and books usually paint a much better picture.
