Just got my first AK last week and every time I pick it up to play with I either get cut or get a blood blister. WTF. Have several ARs and hardly ever have this issue. All that stamped metal really sucks.

We have 4 of various flavors and do not think that the wife or I have ever been bit by one in the 15 years we have been playing with them.
I have never had an issue with my AK chewing on me......interesting.
Yep, no problems here either...

be mollycoddled, even putting the dust cover back on isn't a precision maneuver, it's brute force. My AK's have never hurt me, but I don't handle or shoot them like they're a custom bolt action rifle.
I've heard that switching to a maxi-pad might help though....

Are you trying to say that this man has the hands of a woman? Not nice! [AR15]

Biggest offender on an AK to me is the Hammer spring when I am working over a trigger-zip ties are a wonderful thing.
AK's are not a refined weapon exhibiting the gunmakers art. They are inexpensive, mass produced weapons.
A few burrs and unfinished edges are to be expected.
If it bugs you that much then 10 minutes with a 6" bastard file will "de-horn" it, making it a little better on the manicure.

Those hammer springs hurt like a son of a bitch!!! They will damn near pierce your finger nail!
Alot of firearms can hurt you if your not careful. The m1/m14 rifles will smash your finger so fast, you won't see whats coming. Stripper clips in the clip guide will prevent that on a M14. With the M1...... well just watch out!
The stripper clips on the m14 work good when using a cleaning rod also. I never had a cleaning rod shoot out of the barrel like an arrow before[Tooth]
I've got some sweet gloves I'd like to sell you.
Trigger slap has always been my major issue with AK's.

stamped metal usually has burn or at least a a sharp edge where openings have been punched. go over all the sharp corners with some jewelers files, as far as the mag latch (if that's causing you some pain) do mag slap mag changes, it doesn't hurt your mags any. though it might scratch them [Tooth]

When your running an AK hard (or improperly) its easy to get a few cuts and blisters. Lemme guess, blister on the palm from skin getting caught in the between the saftey and top cover? Happened to me when I first got mine. You'll learn what bites and what doesn't.

That goes without saying ;)

I guess I asked for it. I am going to try dehorning with a file. I have found that Vagicel works really well on the cuts.

I don't think you should be bleeding from just handling it. It just takes a firm hand. It is not a gentle device. Some places do a rudimentary job of finishing. If is has sharp surfaces or burrs, anywhere that is wrong and it needs a 'fluff and buff'. If the dust cover doesn't go in with a sharp tap, make sure the lips around d the receiver aren't bent.
OTOH, AK kit builders are expected to suffer. I managed a few cuts on sharp edges, a blood blister putting in an FCG, a burn while grinding and Gun Kote on my favorite shoes but that is normal. I fired my Romy G yesterday with no injury and Justin was using his in progress AMD-65 and seemed unscathed. I think I got some Swedish Pine Tar on myself but I like the smell.

This ^^^ you didn't describe how it made you bleed, was it from the ears?
I don't think I've gotten more than a blood blister from operating an AK, but I've had a pretty nasty gash across a thumb that left a cool scar while building one!
Are we talking about AK-47's because they have a evil pistol grip on them that gives you something to hold on to.

Mikey from American Chopper just bloodied his thumb on an AK so it must be true.

I have yet to cut myself manipulating an ak..... Maybe a few cuts building. Somehow my neighbor cut himself on my romy on its first outing after its rebirth.

maybe cause you never go out shooting with us [Tooth]
though it you are standing next to someone shooting an ak with either an amd brake or a real ak74 brake it would probably make your ears bleed if you didn't have ear pro on lol
by the way Steve i forgot to have you watch for flames, when gunoholic and i went out shooting before my amd brake was shooting flames out the side vents you could see during the day
on the other hand is your ak from romania? maybe it's a vampire ak that grows stronger from human blood. next time appease it by pricking your finger and rubbing blood on the receiver [Muaha]
I've snagged myself a few times, you have to be careful... Also the worse mistake I ever made was putting about 300 rnds through my AK and accidentally grabbing the barrel- just behind the front sight post- and burned the heck out of my hand (reason #1 I wear gloves now). I hear bad talk about Century arms imported WASR10s, but I've put well over 3000 rounds through mine and have not had a single issue (knock on wood).
