Thanks, I could see the "F-Type" and initially thought it was a Tesla, but I realized that I noticed that I could hear it, and I saw the tail pipes. After looking at the picture I thought I saw the Jaguar symbol, but it's hard to tell and I didn't notice it in person. Pic is zoomed in.

Nonsense. Tesla Model S starts at $68000, and you automatically get a $7500 federal rebate, along with a $5000 Colorado rebate. Add in the delivery and paperwork fees and you're sitting right at $60k. Same 0-60 time (5.5sec), lots of neat tech. Free supercharging, estimated gas savings of more than $1200 per year with my mileage.
69458

Now, comparing a barebones F-Type R at $108k (0-60 in 3.9sec) to a Tesla Model S 100D, at $81k after rebates (0-60 in 4.2) is a little more interesting. F-Type definitely wins in top speed (Gas-burning cars will easily win at this for the foreseeable future), and the sound of a well-tuned exhaust is certainly something that turns me on, but the P100D can do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. That sounds painfully awesome. Both cars have lots of things going for them, but the F-Type does look like sex.

Quick navigation pro-tip. When the nearest cross street to the address you're looking for is 547th and 848th, just expect that your tablet GPS (Google maps) isn't going to work well. When you end up 20 miles North, on the other side a lake, know that is par for the course.

Also, since we're speaking about cars, I'm pretty sure I remember doing the price of ownership comparison on this forum and things have actually worked out even better than expected.

I projected my annual cost of ownership (gas, insurance, registration, depreciation, and maintenance/repairs) to be about $4600/yr for the next 5 years.
In the 11 months I've owned the car, I've spent $2913 (+/- $100) on those expenses, and about $300 of that was optional spending to replace floormats and headlight housings. Another $140 was spent on preventative maintenance that probably could have waited another 6-12 months. Sometime in the next 24 months, I'm expecting to spend about $1400 on suspension components, but that still leaves me well below budget. This is way cooler than being in debt.

Yeah, it turns out there are several different racing/driving clubs in the area, and one of them rents out the local airport once a month to do autocross and sanctioned racing on the runway. pretty cool. Lots of very proud Corvette owners in the area. Usually a Miata can beat them in autocross and it's hilarious.

Assuming you downloaded the offline map section first?

Did you pre-check online and get the actual coordinates? You can enter coordinates directly into Google Maps.

For off grid details and tracking, I'd recommend a paid product that can use topo maps, forest service maps, etc. . I use Back Country Navigator GPS on my phone for hunting. Steep learning curve, but it works great. After my handheld Garmin crapped out, I gave it a try instead of spending coin on another dedicated GPS I was going to use just a few times a year. Since I use a phone with a removable battery, I always kept a charged spare in my kit if needed.

It's also now eligible for "Family Library" on Play store so if you buy it, other's in your family can use it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crittermap.backcountrynavigator.lic ense

Another app I like to use is GPS Essentials but I've yet to use it for any real navigation.

Well done. Now when I see shiny, new cars, I can't help but thinking that while those people look like they've got money, they probably don't, as I don't think most people pay cash for cars.

Well, there's a lot of truth to that. A well-known study by Dr. Thomas J. Stanley identified that the vast majority of American millionaires don't live like we think they do. A few noteworthy takeaways:

-Toyota is the most popular brand of car among millionaires
-86% of people who drive luxury brands (BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Jaguar and the like) are not millionaires. He suggests that these brands tend to attract high earners who also are status-conscious overspenders, which prevents them from ever accumulating significant assets.
-64% of millionaires have never owned a vacation home.
-The vast majority of millionaires shop for clothes at Kohls, JCPenny, Target, and Walmart. (Didn't see the actual data on this one, but those were his words.)
-Three times more millionaires live in homes valued at less than $300,000 than those who live in homes valued at more than $1 million.

I'd be interested to know the average age of a millionaire's car... Do they buy $80,000 cars every 2 years as opposed to driving them for 10+ years (or until the wheels fall off)? Stanley found that approximately 20% of millionaires only buy used cars, which he says carries a lot of insight to their other purchasing habits.

Got USPS notice a few days ago of two certified mail "packages" coming from IRS.

Not sure if it's the PIN's I was told I would get and be required to supply to file due to last year's tax fraud event (ID theft), or potential additional late fees and penalties (typical) or WTF else I don't know.

Odd that any PIN would not have been mailed sooner.

Guess I'll find out in a few days.

Lets hope what you owe will be minimal. Having to come up with a few $$$ sucks. One year my accountant told me, well it looks like you're going to owe $3500. [panic]

2 weeks, 1 gun later i was gtg.

I already wrote a check for something like $7,500 late last year, which was half of the estimated amount. However, I wasn't sure what I was going to make, and I only made about 60% of the estimated amount. So between making way less, and the high amount that I was able to write off, there is a small chance I could even get some money back. I'm not counting on that, but the possibility exists.

Exactly.

Along those lines, is it common practice for the IRS to send a NOTICE OF INTENT TO SEIZE (LEVY) with a 10 day payment demand, for the FIRST such notice?

They've done this to me the past 2 years (underpayment penalties) for late (extension given) payment of taxes due.

Always comes Feb-Mar too so getting through to find out WTF is going on is impossible. I just pay it, but would like to understand why it took them so long and appears to be a 2nd or 3rd notice.

Many flights show up simultaneously, and it's mayhem for 20 minutes...........then dead for 1 to 2 hours. Irving
03-19-2017, 01:48
If I tried to use a power auger to locate my sprinkler line, I'd almost assuredly grab the line with the auger and either pull lines that I don't want to disturb out of the ground, get the line twisted around the auger until it decided to swing me around and bash my head into the gas grill, bend the auger blade on the concrete patio only 2" away; or most likely, all three. I already punched plenty of holes in the line I was following with the shovel.

On another note, this year's garden is going to be AWESOME!!!!! (or a total failure). I'm also thinking about chickens again. And solar for the chickens. And solar for both of my vehicles (one to charge the battery on the one I don't drive, and the other to charge all my electronics on the one I do drive). And the decorative well to hide the pipes on my sprinkler system in my front yard. See? This is what happens when I spend time outside for the first time in 5 months.

Hey ya Buff, ya time is flying by. My Daughter is done with her High School and Club season, been a long run, gonna miss watching her play locally. However, all that work has paid off. She has been fortunate enough to receive multiple scholarship offers from various institutions, from 4 year universities to smaller Jr Colleges. After Much Deliberation she decided on Sheridan College in Wyoming, just felt right, not to big not to small, close to home, great coaches, team and a tough division. She will pursue a degree in biology and will continue to play in her current position. Looking forward to road trips to watch her play. Thanks for asking...

That's pretty much the goal of every company ever. The problem is that they say "YES!!!" to everything with no consideration of if it is possible or not. Also, they're really excited about undercutting a whole market and contracting their techs out to do that work. The problem is that I've done that job that they're trying to undercut and I know first hand that what they pay isn't worth the effort to do that job, and many of the techs are not properly trained to do what they are asking. I imagine this is the same issue as with many companies. Promise the clients the moon at half price, then hire a bunch of contractors to constantly eat a shit sandwich to produce those results for you. That's okay for 18-year old kids with no other job experience that may not have made any real money in their life. However, I know what I'm worth, and I know what other companies pay (a lot more) for the same work. First I got to the point where I understood that not everything is always going to be hunky dory, and for the most part the good times out weigh the bad. BUT, when I have to start doing things like driving all the way to Omaha (about 8 hours) through the middle of the night, getting no sleep, only to arrive right on time at an appointment that ends up being canceled because I'm not needed and getting just a trip charge ($50). I start to get upset. Doing other people's jobs for half (or less) of the pay really starts to piss me off. Every company meeting goes on and on about how excellent they want to be, but they are unwilling to pay the people who bring the excellence for that performance.

Which is why a lot of experienced, older job seekers are not getting call backs.

My post above sounds excessively bitchy and Millenial-lly. There is nothing special about my situation. I'm not even in a "situation." I've just been exploring other opportunities, and once you start doing that, you start getting the "grass is always greener" syndrome going on. Fortunately, I've been networking and can make a seamless transition if I need to. We'll see.

No it doesn't. What you said is the truth. One would 'think" business learned their lesson when the people they hire can't last the month, if not days in to the job.
Some places are willing to pay a decent new hire wage, while others could give a fuck and have revolving door employees.

Sounds like a business that wants to run like the .gov. The .gov is failed, only propped up by the ability to write itself credit on the backs of 5 generations not yet born.

A backstop to such behavior would be a radius-based contract: anything outside of this radius = full cost if cancelled without X hours (48?) notice.

This has been a great 8+ years on the forum, you guys and gals have been the best, everyone that I have met have been among the nicest and most knowledgeable persons I have ever had the pleasure of shooting with, doing business with or just talking with. Awesomeness unparalleled!

I have tried to contribute, post fun stuff, be a part of the whole in an individual way. Being here has truly expanded my knowledge base across the board. I like that we are free to express ourselves honestly and with respect to one another on pretty much any subject.

Again, you all are the best and I look forward to continuing to contribute, have fun, meet other members and if anyone wants to go shooting on a Sunday or Monday morning up on the north side, shoot me a PM and lets see if we can work it out.

Thanks to all of you.

At a funeral with a bunch of old people today. One guy is originally from Italy and he was telling a story and casually used the term "Octoroon." It took a moment to register in my head and I later asked my wife and she has never heard the word before. I can't remember if that is considered a racial slur today, but I thought it was interesting.

Great-Kazoo

No it's not. Unless some emotional hemophiliac was in the area and heard it.

I would have liked to been in on that conversation. Hearing his inflection when using it, would have made my day. Just Like mama use to do

Irving
03-29-2017, 22:38
No inflection. He was talking about how he had no idea that snow was wet or slippery having coming straight from Italy. He said he had just arrived at the Chicago airport and stepped in the snow and fell flat on his back. "Then this giant octoroon picked me up off the ground and put me on my feet. His had spanned across my whole entire chest, from here, to here." It made me laugh.

If you're lucky, you may still meet that guy. He was my grandpa's best friend. If you end up coming down here to check out the garage, he may be around.

I had a dream the other night I was skateboarding on a college campus when some campus cop got all huffy that I wasn't wearing a helmet, "t-guard"(understood in dream to be mouth guard), and something else I cannot recall but understood to essentially be a backboard to keep me upright. He yelled at me to "stay right there". So I booked it. I'm sure this has to do with a subconscious struggle against authority which oversteps its bounds of my personal liberties in the name of safety which, based on experience, actually disallows safety due to the restriction thereof.

I just spent about 20 minutes painstakingly explaining why a meme was funny, over text message, without actually showing the meme, just describing it. What makes me not want to buy it is that the 6.99 could be spent on about 3 gallons of gas instead. I know 3 gallons will take me 100+ additional miles. The fuel treatment? Not so much.

Were you trying to clean injectors or fuel system, or expecting some magical one tank mileage elixir?

Irving
04-02-2017, 13:31
That's a perfect justification for people who buy treatment every other tank (I'm sure there are some suckers out there doing that). Best case scenario is that my fuel injectors were actually dirty and I get increased mileage from now on. More than likely you're right though.

I've seen such huge improvements just by driving slower that this is mostly just wasting money. Speaking of which, I'd love to just cruise and see how good of mileage I can get today, but I'm trying to get to Junction City before it gets dark.

My van has so many miles I figure it can't hurt. It'll be gone in about four hours anyway, so a pretty short experiment.

brutal
04-02-2017, 15:18
I use a "wonder wiz" mix of PS and MMO in my diesel, but it's more to quiet the injectors, and hopefully improve the life of them and the injector pump...

I'm not super religious about adding to every tank as I sometimes forget to replenish the mix containers kept in the bed, but make a concerted effort to do so when I'm towing on longer trips.
